Slightly irritated with 13 year old daughter

So this is pathetic I know
My daughter was ill with flu last week....full on symptoms and was quite unwell.
I have her a hug Cos I felt sorry for her and she decided to breath on me as a jokeSad I was not impressed as I was starting a new job 11th so knew I could absolutely not take any time off.
I’m sure it’s not related but now have had a chest infection for past week and feel like death...it’s kicked off my asthma too. I’m sure it’s nothing to do with the “breathing “ on me but I found it such a daft thing to do .
Santa may need a sick day

She wasn’t being malicious, to a kid it was just being funny. I’m sorry you have gotten sick, but probably wouldn’t have been from juts that. Try not to be too annoyed and hope you feel better soon.

19lottie82 · 22/12/2017 07:32

You’re being ridiculous. You’ve been living in the same house as her and giving her hugs. Her breathing on you isn’t going to make an ly difference what so ever.

She’s a kid she’s been down in the dumps and I’ll. get a grip.

pingu73 · 22/12/2017 07:32

It was a bit of lighthearted post however won’t be offering sick hugs again Smile

Oh get a grip yourself Lottie!
It was a light hearted post!

I think it didn’t sound all that lighthearted which is why you got the responses you did!

Feel very sorry for you with chest infection! Get better soon.

It didn’t read as lighthearted.

Greenshoots1 · 22/12/2017 08:36

shes 13 and I would find that totally unacceptable, you don't play Russian roulette with someones health like that. How nasty of her. Of course she knew she was putting you at risk.

twiney · 22/12/2017 08:38

:-S

KinkyAfro · 22/12/2017 08:40

Not one bit of that came across as light hearted, it came across as cold and uncaring to me

I think you need to work on your 'lighthearted' tone OP!

Your post doesn't sound lighthearted, you sound totally pissed off.

BrutusMcDogface · 22/12/2017 08:45

If you've been sharing a home with someone, surely it makes no difference if you breathe on them or not? Surely you're in her vicinity enough to pick up whatever she's got anyway?

Also- yes- one hug?

"Russian roulette with people's health"- sorry but that's just ridiculous.

SummatFishyEre · 22/12/2017 08:45

You don't sound light hearted at all

PinkyBlunder · 22/12/2017 08:47

Another one here where this post didn’t come across lighthearted at all Confused

I’m always catching stuff of my kid. She’s 4 and went through a stage of thinking licking me was hilarious Hmm

Greenshoots1 · 22/12/2017 08:47

Don't be daft, she was joking. A 13 year old might not forsee the impact of breathing in someone's direction when she had flu. 'Nasty'? Ridiculous

thats not a joke, that is malicious. And a 13 year old who can't see the impact of breathing on someone when they have flu would be classified as SEN.

TheSameCoin · 22/12/2017 08:49

Her breathing in your direction will have made no difference. You’ve been living in close proximity to someone with flu. Unless she was scrupulous about hygiene there were likely germs all over the place. You don’t sound lighthearted at all BTW.

Greenshoots1 · 22/12/2017 08:50

yes, maybe, but you take all sensible precautions, and if you become ill you just shrug it off and think, o well, we did our best not to spread the infection.

You do not breath on someone.

I am surprised you are only "lightly irritated" I would have been furious.

A 13 year old girl who know exactly what she is doing, deliberately behaves in a manner likely to spread a horrible illness to her relatives.

Very nasty indeed, and if that is her idea of a joke then it isn't going to be very long before she gets into serious trouble one way or another

PiffleandWiffle · 22/12/2017 08:51

Grin Late Contender for "Dickish Comment of 2017" here folks....

And another!! Greenshoots1 is the poster that keeps on giving.... Star

PinkyBlunder · 22/12/2017 08:54

Just facepalmed myself so hard it hurt.

Desmondo2016 · 22/12/2017 08:55

I was presuming the twatty comments were tongue in cheek. Hope I was right@

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 22/12/2017 08:55

Some comments are seriously odd.

SEN? Really? Or nasty?

And OPs post didn't come across ass lighthearted at all.

She a daft 13 yo that's all.

swingofthings · 22/12/2017 08:57

I'm in the clan of those who think that most of the time, you have no idea where you get your infection. DD caught the sickness virus 3 weeks ago. She works in a nursing home, but not directly with the patients, so no-one breathed on her directly. She was very sick in the night, I went to help her, hugged her and I'm sure I felt her breath (because gosh it stank!), but I didn't catch it nor has anyone else in the family.

Last year, I caught a bad chest infection. My OH was due to participate in a cycling competition so it was very important that he didn't catch it. We took every precautions and I even slept in the spare room... unfortunately, he managed to catch it, although for all we know, it might have been from outside of the house just as I had no idea who I got it from since I hadn't been in direct contact with anyone with a chest infection.

It's fair to teach your DD about precautions, but don't assume you got your infection from her and please don't make her feel guilty.
