To think Poundland ad is not “genius” and is actually a bit I appropriate?

Most comments on Facebook are proclaiming it “genius.” I don’t think a sexual innuendo is that genius TBF.

Plus why is it a woman lying on her back with a t shirt saying “power” and a man standing over her dominating her. They could have at least chosen another sexual innuendo.

Also difficult to explain to kids.

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Waitrose shoppers are this generations Hyacinth Bucket. LOL!

I would like to hear Victor Meldrew's reaction to the ad Grin

Tessliketrees · 21/12/2017 22:56

But she would have loved Thatcher, that generations messiah offering hope for all ills

Ahh so you have a problem with populism rather than liberal politics?

But wait what about Brexit?

It's almost like you don't have a coherent point.

BringMeTea · 21/12/2017 22:58

Depressing how many women on here seem to think this is funny.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 21/12/2017 22:58

Hyacinth Bucket was an awful social climber and desperately wanted to be middle class. If she was around today, Sheridan would be called Felix and she would be a vegan Corbyn supporter who voted remain and got outraged on Twitter all the time and posting on MN about how she could feed a family of 12 on one chicken for 6 months.

It's blimmin' ridiculous, but we always turn into a slightly tweaked version of the generation who were despised when we grew up.

Tessliketrees · 21/12/2017 23:00

Eltonjohn

I don't think I have ever seen anybody miss the point of Keeping up Appearances before.

It's disconcerting.

DancingOnParsnips · 21/12/2017 23:00

It's gross and degrading.

It also seems more of a Tetley 'joke' than a Twinnings one.

Frequency · 21/12/2017 23:00

You understand that Barbie doesn't have teeth, right? And the Elf doesn't have balls. They're plastic. The possibility of teeth related injuries is precisely nil. It's a contrived photograph with two inanimate objects, not a porn film.

Lifting Barbie's head a bit would've kept the juvenile humour without worrying undertone the ad currently has.

shinysinkredemption · 21/12/2017 23:03

Tessliketrees Grin Grin Grin miss the point of keeping up appearance...
Now that's properly funny!

sagamartha · 21/12/2017 23:03

I wonder what it's like working for the ad agency who came up with this idea?

Stargirl82 · 21/12/2017 23:03

If you think this one was bad, don't look st the others....

Eltonjohnssyrup · 21/12/2017 23:04

Yes I do.

People getting outraged about this sort of thing are the Mary Whitehouses and Hyacinth Buckets of this generation. Slightly ridiculous figure who make a lot of noise but are held up to ridicule and only end up getting support for the things they protest against.

Can you not fucking understand? It's a cheap puerile joke that isn't very funny. The only reason why it's being discussed or in the press is because of the deliberately provoked outrage.

Honestly, I really feel sorry for anybody who genuinely and sincerely objects to this being conned into providing all this publicity for them. They've been taken for absolute mugs.

bakewelltarty · 21/12/2017 23:07

Elton, are you deliberately missing the point?

We all like a good joke (and most of us a smutty one too). It's not that we haven't got a sense of humour, can laugh at ourselves etc etc. It's just that there is something very wrong about this ad.

I agree with the poster that said what's should have been a vaguely funny, smutty, school boy humour type joke has just gone too far this time and makes some of us feel deeply uncomfortable and not for the reasons you state.

It probably wasn't their intention but lazy advertising.

Tessliketrees · 21/12/2017 23:09

Elton, are you deliberately missing the point?

Clearly they have.

Elton thinks this has something to do with Brexit and being vegan.

PumpkinSquash · 21/12/2017 23:09

Elton, are you deliberately missing the point?

Elton got it absolutely nailed on. The responses is what's making it so funny in the first place.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 21/12/2017 23:09

You understand that Barbie doesn't have teeth, right? And the Elf doesn't have balls. They're plastic. The possibility of teeth related injuries is precisely nil. It's a contrived photograph with two inanimate objects, not a porn film.

YES. AND IT'S NOT HIS FUCKING BALLS EITHER. IT'S A FUCKING TEABAG. (And she does have teeth. Little white pearly ones.

Lifting Barbie's head a bit would've kept the juvenile humour without worrying undertone the ad currently has.

For the love of God. We are adult women discussing whether or not a doll has teeth and whether or not dolls with or without said teeth can take part in certain sexuality with or without consent. When they are FUCKING DOLLS!!

I could weep. I really could. Grown women debating what angle a doll should teabag from. Can you not see my point about this being beyond parody?

Tessliketrees · 21/12/2017 23:09

And doesn't understand the basic premise of Keeping Up Appearances.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 21/12/2017 23:10

It probably wasn't their intention but lazy advertising.

Of course it was their intention you utter donut.

Tessliketrees · 21/12/2017 23:11

YES. AND IT'S NOT HIS FUCKING BALLS EITHER. IT'S A FUCKING TEABAG [...] When they are FUCKING DOLLS!! [...] I could weep. I really could

It's horrid when people get outraged on the internet =(

VladmirsPoutine · 21/12/2017 23:12

And lo... we are officially through the looking glass.

PumpkinSquash · 21/12/2017 23:13

Elton thinks this has something to do with Brexit and being vegan.

WTAF has being vegan to do with anything?! Grin

Honestly, the replies are the funny bit. Grin

bakewelltarty · 21/12/2017 23:14

Elton, I'm a donut am I? You sound outraged, calm down.

You answered my question though. You simply don't get our point.

Tessliketrees · 21/12/2017 23:14

WTAF has being vegan to do with anything

I have no idea.

BertrandRussell · 21/12/2017 23:17

Hyacinth Bucket is such a misunderstood figure.......

bakewelltarty · 21/12/2017 23:19

Pumpkin, the Brexit and Vegan comments were directly from Elton, who you think has got it 'nailed on'.

BertrandRussell · 21/12/2017 23:19

Which is an interesting bit of class analysis on it's own........
