AIBU to hate vaping even more than cigarettes

I know IANBU.

Vaping makes me feel sick. I hate the sickly cloud of smoke - apple and cinnamon, caramel or whatever it is these people drag down their lungs.

Vapers are pleased with themselves having given up smoking for an alternative they see as healthier, but they also seem to have no idea how disgusting it is for other people walking behind them on the street and being hit by a massive caramel or chocolate smelling cloud often with no warning.

How long do I have to wait until vapers start being considerate to others?

The smell is disgusting

The smell of caramel or apple or cherry or mint is disgusting? How do you cope with peoples perfumes then?!

BadFeminist, he does not actually vape in the office, the smell is just so overpowering. When he smoked I never used to smell anything.

Not saying it's the case with this specific AIBU, but certain comments i've read in the past regarding vaping vs smoking have led me to suspect that there is a small minority of people who actually have sour grapes about vaping vs smoking because vaping doesn't cause as much damage to people / make them cough as much / stain their teeth (etc.)

It's almost as if they think that vapers have 'got away with it' re switching habits and are pissed off that now they can't smugly talk about how grim smoking is.

Kind of like vapers have 'cheated' them somehow out of their derision.

It smells better than smoke however people who vape seem to do so far more often than they'd have had a cigarette so it's constant. And in places where you would not smoke cigarettes. So with an actual cigarette you would probably stand outside the door with a vape they stand in the door way..

That being said, I think it's extremely rude to blow a cloud of vape in anyone's face or to smoke inside in workplaces and so on.

It's about common courtesy. I recall sharing an office with a woman who insisted on eating the most vile smelling fish salad concoction every day at her desk in the summer and complained if the windows were opened because she got cold. It was a small office and made me gag for at least an hour after she'd eaten.

There was a perfectly good larger area outside the enclosed office space where she could have eaten her lunch (and where in fact most other people did). To me that's a similar thing to vaping in an office - just inconsiderate.

Same with people who spray stinky deodarant / perfume or insist on plugging in overpowering air fresheners that spray noxious sickly sweet stuff into the air everytime someone walks past.

Branleuse - but being around neither would be even better, surely?

Dunno, I guess marginally, but it doesnt really bother me much at all. Its just other people doing stuff that other people do that I dont have a massive opinion on. The smell dissapates so quickly, and im definitely appreciative of the fact fewer people seem to smoke than ever before, because thats a smell I find lingers and makes me cough, whereas vape doesnt really. Im about as bothered by it as i am by other peoples perfumes and deodorants. Not very.

It's up to you if you hate it or not. Not going to make any difference though. I am pretty proud of myself for giving up smoking and I won't be giving up vaping anytime soon. Maybe don't walk so close to people vaping if you don't like it.
