AIBU to hate vaping even more than cigarettes

PrincessoftheSea · 20/12/2017 09:07

I know IANBU.

Vaping makes me feel sick. I hate the sickly cloud of smoke - apple and cinnamon, caramel or whatever it is these people drag down their lungs.

Vapers are pleased with themselves having given up smoking for an alternative they see as healthier, but they also seem to have no idea how disgusting it is for other people walking behind them on the street and being hit by a massive caramel or chocolate smelling cloud often with no warning.

How long do I have to wait until vapers start being considerate to others?

I agree with you! YANBU you cant escape the massive cloud of smoke they are huge!

Dairymilkmuncher · 20/12/2017 09:33

YABU - don't get so close to people the clouds aren't that invasive unless you are pretty close to their breathHmm creepy

You should be proud and happy that you aren't walking past freezing cold smokers and clouds of harmful smoke when you walk into the doctors or shopping centres or even schools!

But I feel the same way you do with Parmesan in restaurants, super inconsiderate to people like me who don't want to be in the same building as the stuff Grin

SaturndayNight · 20/12/2017 09:34

I think it looks horrible and genuinely think it makes the person doing it look like a dickhead. Walking around in a fog of smoke when we know you're inhaling apple and cinnamon or something.

ThymeLord · 20/12/2017 09:34

and now I'm singing "vapers gonna vape" to the tune of that Taylor Swift song about players gonna play or something....!

ThymeLord · 20/12/2017 09:35

Vapers gonna vape, ya know?

Rebeccaslicker · 20/12/2017 09:36

YABU to hate it more than smoking.

YANBU to hate it.

JeReviens · 20/12/2017 09:36

Oh this again? I couldn't care less about either but I have to say that despite being out and about a lot I have never yet either walked into a cloud of vape or smelled someone doing it.
Ridiculous. Go get mad about something real. Start with dog shit on pavements. There's bound to be something out there. Oh but wait - then you won't be able to indulge in feeling all superior will you?

DeStijl · 20/12/2017 09:37

I'm not a big fan of either but YABU.
What sort of person is outraged by the smell of caramel?

JustHope · 20/12/2017 09:39

YABU I would prefer a vaping could over the smell of cigarettes any day and the awful ashtrays and butts everywhere. The vaping smoke and smell disappears in a few seconds unlike cigarette smoke that lingers forever in a room and gets in your hair and clothes.

I do agree though that some vapers could be a bit more considerate of others and not blow full clouds of unknown stuff around them or young kids as it can be unpleasant.

Branleuse · 20/12/2017 09:40

your opinion on it is not fact. I would much rather me and my children be around vape than around tobacco smoke. I dont find it offensive at all

Rebeccaslicker · 20/12/2017 09:42

Branleuse - but being around neither would be even better, surely?

Independentstateofeyebrows · 20/12/2017 09:55

When I'm stuck behind an ostentatious vaper I like to pretend I'm in the video for Total Eclipse of the Heart.
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
And you can be too, op, you've just got to embrace the big hair and unleash your inner Tyler.
Don't be outraged, be BonnieSmile

ThymeLord · 20/12/2017 10:08

Grin @ Independent

I'm going to seek out a vaper on the way home tonight, just so I can do that!

DinaCaliente · 20/12/2017 10:11

Mine's menthol so nice and minty fresh but really I'm just here waiting for the popcorn lung crap to be brought up.

BadFeminist · 20/12/2017 10:11

Definitely prefer the smell of vape to overwhelming aftershave/perfume or that cloying smell that seems to follow smokers around.

I used to sit by a girl who would spray herself almost every 30 minutes so much you could fucking taste it.

ElsieMay123 · 20/12/2017 10:17

With you OP but blame the makers! I lived abroad in countries where vaping wasn't common/permitted and coming home it seemed like the UK high street had turned into some kind of walk through sweet factory. Pros and cons though, I do prefer it to cig smoke. It does seem like the vape makers could tone it down a bit, those huge plumes of sickly cloud can't be necessary surely?

JediStoleMyBike · 20/12/2017 10:24

Vaping doesn't bother me as a concept, what bothers me is people with a total lack of manners and awareness of others. I was steering the pram out of a shop last week and a bloke was stood by the door vaping. He turned to look at me, presumably to make sure that I wasn't close to him and he wasn't in the way and breathed all of his vape smoke into my face. He apologised after I told him how rude it was but it's bloody disgusting either way. It's people that are the problem, not smoking or vaping.

PrincessoftheSea · 20/12/2017 10:27

Surprised by the responses. Reason for my post is I was hit by a cloud of caramel smoke on my way to work today and it wasn't just me but lots of people crossed the road to avoid the cloud and vaper seemed oblivious. I have friends who vape and don't blow massive clouds so perhaps its some kind of setting on these things.

I also work in an open plan office with a very enthusiastic vaper and it now stinks of creme brulee which is his current favourite.

I think vapers seem to have less awareness than smokers that they stink.

HermionesRightHook · 20/12/2017 10:35

I can't stand people wearing aftershave but I have to put up with it. I wish it were fashionable for men to go around smelling like caramel and cherry instead of fecking vetiver and deer arse.

PrincessoftheSea · 20/12/2017 10:37

People don't spray aftershave at you in the street though do they?

OP posts:
Rebeccaslicker · 20/12/2017 10:39

I'm biased because my DP vapes up a storm and I bloody hate it.

I don't care when he does it outside in the fresh air (apart from the infuriating bubbling sound that it makes). I care a LOT when he does it in the car, or the house, swearing blind that it's totally safe and nothing but water vapour blah blah blah.

People who vape indoors in public places are v selfish. People who vape considerately - good for them, let them get on with it, IMO.

LittleLionMansMummy · 20/12/2017 10:40

Yes. Yes, you are op.

Fair enough people object to vaping near them, but to say it's worse than cigarette smoke is absolutely preposterous.

MissionItsPossible · 20/12/2017 10:40

I do that too but pretend I'm on Stars in Their Eyes emerging after my transformation Grin

BadFeminist · 20/12/2017 10:43

Princessofthesea,

As far as I'm aware most offices treat vaping the same way they do smoking.
Ask your HR if it's really bothering you. Smile

Bitchywaitress · 20/12/2017 10:45

The smell is disgusting. OP, YANBU
