In regards to the ALfie Evans case. The family do stress that they don't want any threats or anything to the hosp. It has been rumbling on for a long time, but is now about to go to court so is gaining more prominence in social media as AH don't want the child to be moved to another hospital. I assume they will have had huge discussions with lawyers in the NHS etc to prevent a CG situation but that is seeming more and more likely now.

I hope to God that doesn't happen.

washingupbowl · 18/12/2017 23:44

The supporters are largely the same people who joined the fb page after CG passed away.

The psychic live fb fundraisers, selling dummy chains etc is all the same.

The relationship between the family and the hosp had been fairly good until now.

Nobody messes with Alder Hey. Liverpool will not tolerate it.

PickAChew · 18/12/2017 23:48

We seem to be hitting a situation where the baying crowd of onlookers seem determined to make it impossible for a family in that situation to make sure they're fairly done by.

numbereightyone · 18/12/2017 23:49

Let the baying onlookers try to take on Alder Hey. They won't get far.

PumpkinSquash · 18/12/2017 23:58

I just don't get the baying mob mentality. A child. no relation to you, is ill in hospital. The hospital know what they're doing. I was in Alder Hey when little. Baying mobs outside sticking their noses in sounds terrifying!

washingupbowl · 19/12/2017 00:03

To be fair to the family they are very keen no one bad mouths the drs. But at the same time are posting a list of criticisms and questions that are then being jumped on by people who are posting wiki links to what the drs SHOULD be doing. So people are getting wound up. The family do seem to be engaging with the hosp but I do wonder if it has been such a long time coming because the hosp have been really trying to avoid court.

There are people who are posting that their 8yr old for example is sobbing and wants to post because they have told them that a hospital wants to kill a baby. That really upsets me, no need for an 8 yr old to have that kind of upsetting knowledge at all of a baby who they don't know and will never meet.

This is a slightly different case, because of a lack of diagnosis.

It's worrying that a Hospital can deny possible treatment and decide that the child's life comes to an end.

I'm in Liverpool, born here and treated at AH. My children have all been there. I've also had two friends who were caught up in the baby parts scandal. I worked with the Woman whose experience of the loss of her Son and lack of support, started better bereavement services. Alder Hey has been shaped by their Patients and Parents/Carers. We all feel lucky to have AH. But that doesn't mean that they don't get things wrong (my family has had experience of that).

Liverpool likes an underdog and we love a good protest against the Establishment.

So I wouldn't say that it is easy to predict how it will pan out. We've suffered the worse for cuts, which includes the Police, but they seem to be available when it suits, so that might not go down well.

The Liverpool Echo has been doing interviews with the Family and local News. It's quite right that we don't tolerate 'outsiders' trying to dictate (just ask the far-right Fascist groups), so unless the Family are wanting the Storm that CG had, it won't happen.

Birdsgottafly · 19/12/2017 00:10

"The hospital know what they're doing."

Not always.

DeepanKrispanEven · 19/12/2017 00:11

The Charlie Gard case seems to be having some influence though, given that they've all decided to go for mediation. With luck that has deprived the ghouls of the focus for their hysteria that court proceedings can give.

pieceofpurplesky · 19/12/2017 00:14

Alder Hey saved my son's life. I hate it when the press get involved as the truth gets buried under the passion of people who don't know all the details.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 19/12/2017 00:20

Charlie’s Army (the thick hanger-on brigade, not those who loved and knew him) will be jumping on the bandwagon, no doubt.

washingupbowl · 19/12/2017 00:25

They have been posting on Alder Hey fb. But most seem to be deleted fast

Sounds horribly familiar Sad

You can't legislate for thickos, though.

Do you have a link! I had any heard about Alfie until this thread.

MiltonTheCockroach · 19/12/2017 00:30

Oh please god no, not another Charlie Gard type of outpouring from internet randoms Sad

Battleax · 19/12/2017 00:30

? not !

DeepanKrispanEven · 19/12/2017 00:30

Unfortunately the Mail has now latched onto it. That never helps in this type of situation.

MiltonTheCockroach · 19/12/2017 00:32

There's already a Crowdfunding site with the hashtags #alfiesarmy #littlebluewarrior #alfieswar #alfiesfight

www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/parents-alfie-evans-turn-doctor-13532706

washingupbowl · 19/12/2017 00:42

Alfies Army Official is the fb site.

If you google Alfie Evans the press stories come up. Because although they have disagreed on a treatment plan the hosp and parents have been communicating fairly well up until now it has not gone as public as it could have done.

I assume there is a huge amount we don't know.

The Dad often posts videos of him pulling his arms up and then Alfie appearing to make some types of movement which is then shared widely as evidence. But no one on there is an expert so it is hard to know how relevant that is and what it means in terms of prognosis.

I really feel for the family but worry that the internet army are preventing them from hearing what the hosp are saying.

Thanks, both.

Is this going to be a regular of paediatric medicine in the social media age? I suppose it's a combination of medical advances and SM?

passemoilevin · 19/12/2017 00:59

The FB page is very angry that the courts/ hospital have assigned a guardian to decide Alfie's best interests. People are outraged. But surely it's common knowledge that this is done for kids in all sorts of situations?

washingupbowl · 19/12/2017 01:00

The family seem to have been told initially that if they found a hosp able to potentially diagnose him they would allow him to be transferred but that seems to have changed now.

I honestly don’t understand cases like this. One of the Liverpool echo pieces said he has been in a coma since last December? What are the odds of a recovery after that? It sounds very similar to the Jahi McMath case.
Poor parents, and poor Alder Hay. It’s going to be rough new year.

sashh · 19/12/2017 06:39

What are they actually raising money for?

The baby will have his own lawyer and access to legal aid. If the hospital in Italy can take him then he will be treated there under the EU reciprocal agreement.

Travel? When NHS patients are sent abroad a carer/friend/family member is sent with them.

Air ambulance? Wouldn't that be covered by NHS / EU agreement?

DeepanKrispanEven · 19/12/2017 06:42

Could they be raising money for the parents' legal costs? As we discovered in the Gard case, they presumably can't get legal aid.
