AIBU to wonder why they have killed off Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi?
I've always loved the Star Wars movies but this current one is very weak on all fronts.
Why don't they draw a line under the whole thing and move on?

True nooka but that doesn't explain his shutting off from the force entirely or irrational fear of Rey sensing the dark side. Vader turned on children before he was Vader, him turning on Kylo seemed to mirror that. His speech about heroes (I might be paraphrasing and he didn't mention 'hero' per say) also resonates with Anakin wanting to save his mother then going tits, and how he struggled to manage this ideology held by others about the Jedi being inherently good.

I may be wrong but it is interesting to see and hear other interpretations.

Oh my goodness, I went to see it last night and really, really liked it. Not as thrilling and exciting as TFA (nothing will compare with Han and Chewie back on the Millenium Falcon), but the tension in this story, the twists and turns, had me on the edge of my seat. I loved loved loved the Rey and Kylo Ren bits, I literally stopped breathing when KR killed Snoke and then they looked at each other and turned to start fighting the guards.
Luke was done. He essentially sacrificed himself doing that thing at the end, and that was not wrong. Like his father before him, there was darkness in him and I totally believed that he had thought of killing Ben, and then was horrified about it. He was never very good at handling his feelings.
I agree that Snoke could have been handled differently - he was a bit of a letdown, but served his purpose I supposed.
I could have done with more Finn as I love his character. I'm not sure about the code breaker subplot, it seemed a bit of a wild goose chase. I thought Po was good, he's the new Han imo, not Finn.
Loved all the animals, and actually could have done with more aliens/other life forms - this was very heavy on humans. Also more Chewie please.
I want to go see it again, I thought there was lots I probably missed.

About the Jedi in general : I sort of agree with Luke that they should die out. There needs to be a new way of harnessing the force - the Jedi sturcture and rules etc just don't work any more. I always felt that the Jedi council let down Anakin dreadfully - he needed guidance and help, and they didn't give it to him, they should have known what could happen if you just left those feelings unchecked (wasn't Count Dooku also a turned Jedi?).

I missed ade edmonson which character was he? (Had to go the loo at one point so probably missed him then)

Porgs - did you read the thing that said the porgs are included because the island is overrun with puffins and it’s particularly hard to CGI stuff out of footage, much easier to stick stuff on top?
