To expect people without kids to not park in the M&B spaces at Tesco?

What is wrong with people?

There is a HUGE carpark at my Tesco, but only 20 Parent & Child parking spaces.

The amount of people who don't have kids that use them at the busiest times just so they dont have to walk across the carpark gobsmacks me.

i dont mind if they have disabled badges, if there are no spare disabled spaces, then go for it. But just because you're driving a 4x4 that you can't park is no excuse to park in the Parent/Child spaces!!!

"You wouldn't expect a car to park in a Lorry/Coach space at a service station, just as you don't expect other people to park in your driveway or block it off".

I did park in the lorry park at a service station once - I was driving round to park and somehow missed the entry for the car park. I hadn't used these services before. I was heading back for the m3 sliproad by this time so I drove into the lorry park as the entrance was on the way and dumped my car there. I wasn't going to drive another 15 miles to find the next service station .

I wouldn't make a practice of it but it was a genuine mistake on my part. Didn't seem to bother the lorry drivers too much - mind there were only about 3 lorries in there and they were at the far end of the concourse.

can't let the thread die, now, can we?

I called in at Tesco the other day, with ds1 (4) and ds2 (8mths and miraculously asleep). Having both boys with me, it is handy, although obv not essential if I can park close to supermarket entrance to minimise dangers of ds1 throwing himself under a car, and me putting my back out hoiking sleeping ds2 about in his car seat.

So, as I go past the parent and child spaces a woman is walking away from her car, alone, so I wind my window down to point out that "Excuse me, those are P&c spaces, and you don't appear to have any children with you". "They're in the car" she says. "So you don't really need to park there then, do you?" "What difference does it make?" "To me, the difference in how far I have to walk with a potentially unreliable child, and a heavy baby."

I did actually get a space not too far from the store, and ds1 didn't endanger himself at all.

When i finished my shopping I returned to the car to observe a man on his own parking up in a p&c space. I said my piece: "Excuse me, blah blah blah"
He said, "Thank you very much for your advice." I don't know whether I misunderstood him at that point (I thought he was brushing me off), or whether the mild rant that I then embarked upon changed his mind, but he did actually get back in the car and move it! Felt bad about the rant then though.

My mum does this, despite the kids now being ten years old. It embarrasses me no end but no amount of pleading on my behalf will get her to park anywhere else. The irony is that our Tesco recently refurbed and now the child car spaces are further away from the entrance than the normal spaces! I think for her it is habit, I can't think what else it could be!!!

actually when you have 1yr old twins who can't walk and you can't carry both of them and the trolleys are all by the m&b spaces and you don't want to leave your kids unattended in the car yes it is a big deal!

why wouldn't you leave 1 year olds unattended in a car (presumably they're strapped in) to go and fetch a trolley? What do you do at petrol stations?

LadyTophamHatt · 23/04/2007 20:18

I've left my 3 month old in the car to return the trolley.

So shoot me.

LadyTophamHatt · 23/04/2007 21:23

LadyTophamHatt · 23/04/2007 21:24

I can often hear then screaming and fighting from across the carparkl so I know there al right.

No-one would ever steal my kids after hearing the racket they make.

misdee · 23/04/2007 21:24

LadyTophamHatt · 23/04/2007 21:25
