To think that THIS is not a Christmas tree?

Absolutely hating this trend. It just doesn’t give me that warm, fuzzy festive feeling at all. My friend has a similar tree and I know this makes me sad & pathetic but for some reason it’s really grating on me 😆 AIBU?

I love it!

I'd have that as the only tree in the house

I can't be bothered with the faff of a more traditional tree

LookBackInIngres · 14/12/2017 23:41

YABabitU in not being equally freaked out by that white thing on the right of the so called tree (its left) with the arthritic knees/elbows. I don’t think I’ve seen anything more ghastly.

OneMoreFrog · 14/12/2017 23:46

We used to live in a tiny flat, we couldnt have had a big tree in the living room, it would have totally dominated the room and looked ridiculous, we had something like the one youve posted, it was understated but symbolised Christmas, and it worked

Hadjab · 14/12/2017 23:46

I have one of these outside my house, and another on the landing st the top of the stairs, I wouldn't use it as my main tree though.

roseretro · 14/12/2017 23:51

I wouldn’t really call it a trend - the majority of people would still have a regular tree too? Seems like you’re getting annoyed over nothing as it’s not popular. I’m sure there’s garish neon orange trees on sale in some corner of the internet too - I’m not getting worked up over them

I quite like the twigs as house decor / clutter - eg a few twigs with small fairy lights in a glass vase. Pretty

Oysterbabe · 14/12/2017 23:58

That's the kind we have. It works better with the look of our house than a traditional one.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/12/2017 00:01

my mum was painting beech twigs in the seventies... so ahead of her time. not sure about the polystyrene egg box bells though that she got me to cover in foil

purplehaze24 · 15/12/2017 00:26

Ha buckys you beat me to it, looks like stick man got some bling 😁

Donnerkebabbler · 15/12/2017 00:31

Agreed. But it’s not in your home.

SallySphinx · 15/12/2017 00:36

Yanbu!

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 15/12/2017 00:51

You do know it is not compulsory to have a tree? I don't like Christmas trees, whether real, fake or artistically twiggy.

safariboot · 15/12/2017 02:09

It looks like something that belongs in a trendy minimalist open plan apartment in a town centre, but it's actually in a room with period (or imitation period) features and that old-style cabinet. It's a mismatch.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 15/12/2017 03:02

It looks nice, but not for the main tree, no way! As a little extra one yeah.

DivisionBelle · 15/12/2017 03:15

Trendy shit.

SD1978 · 15/12/2017 03:21

I like it, if you have ‘that’ kind of house. I do not have ‘that’ kind of house, therefore I have a tree that looks like it vomited tinsel, and rolled around in a non colour coordinated ball pit, and picked up a few in no discernible order or colour combination. Sometimes I wish I had ‘that’ kind of house though.......

iboughtsnowboots · 15/12/2017 03:45

I have one, but it is my second tree. I am thinking I will keep it up after Xmas so I have little lights until spring.

DivisionBelle · 15/12/2017 03:51

I do have ‘a certain kind of house ‘ but this kind of thing is a cliche. Not creative. Catalogue decor.

Fair enough if people like it, if you do, enjoy it.

Polichinelle · 15/12/2017 09:22

I love it. I live in a modern small town centre apartment and it would work very well here. I currently have a potted 2ft tree and I have to move it every time I want to watch TV

Doubletrouble42 · 15/12/2017 09:24

Yanbu it's shit

SpentTheDayInBed · 15/12/2017 20:04

I like it, and if I could get away with that decorated with a few of my retro baubles, then I would. However, grown up DC still insist on the real tree when they come home for a few days.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 17/12/2017 16:39

The poor things probably can't afford a proper tree, which I'm surprised about as the fireplace looks magnificent. They might have overstretched themselves with a huge mortgage.

Perhaps you could offer to buy them one next year with a truckload of tinsel and baubles and an angel on top? Wink

Allthetuppences · 17/12/2017 20:16

I am noticing something odd. Some of you have presents under your trees. WTF? I really thought i understood the whole tree thing with presents delivered by jesus helper on santa's birthday or whatever I am supposed to learn from the nativity fairytale.
But. Presents already? Is that a thing tbing? Or are these "stunt presents" as part of the decor?

ProseccoPoppy · 17/12/2017 20:23

I’d like two of those, one either side of my front door. But defo not instead of my proper tree (we’ve actually got a bit overexcited this year and have two “proper” trees). As an extra I’d Like that. Not as the tree though!!

CiderwithBuda · 17/12/2017 22:55

Allthetuppences - there are currently two presents under our tree. Both for the dogs! Unless DH has done his wrapping while I've been away this weekend in which case there may be more.

Father Christmas or Santa presents only appear once he has been. However we never did the Santa brings everything from everyone thing. Santa brings Santa presents and a stocking. Presents from relatives etc are from them and may well go under the tree before Christmas.
