I've emailed and they don't have the information. I'm surprised when the likes of Wetherspoons, McDonald's and KFC do.

I've chosen what I'll eat in advance. I've lost 50lbs in weight and calories matter to me!

OP posts:
manicinsomniac · 15/12/2017 00:46

My estimate at a traditional dinner:

150g Roast Turkey - 225 Kcal
100g Roast Potatoes - 230 Kcal
2 pigs in blankets - 90 Kcal
12 Brussell Sprouts - 100 Kcal
100g Carrots - 35 Kcal
50g Stuffing - 60 Kcal
1/2 cup Gravy - 50 Kcal
1 tblsp Oil - 120 Kcal
Portion of Christmas Pudding - 350 Kcal

Total: 1260

Don't forget to allow for liquid calories if you're drinking.

nooka · 15/12/2017 00:49

I think it was reasonable of the OP to ask, and also totally reasonable for the venue not to be able to answer. Silly for anyone to be guessing how many calories might be a completely unknown meal. The OP hasn't even said whether she's chosen turkey!

I can quite see why the OP wants to be careful, maintaining your weight after a big loss is very difficult, needing a long term readjustment into eating habits and how you see food in your life. It's horribly easy to yo yo back to being overweight.

IceBearRocks · 15/12/2017 01:01

100 calories for Brussel sprouts....that's 100 calories saved!

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 15/12/2017 01:06

Rather than worry about the one meal why not allow for it beforehand so cut down a little between now and then and if you are exercising add in a couple more runs or whatever you do, that should help you enjoy your Christmas dinner without worrying about gaining weight, even if you did not do this in the grand scheme of things one day of indulgence won’t hurt you, the secret is to get back on the wagon straight away and not say blow it I will indulge until the new year, that’s when the weight gain happens. Well done on your weight loss and enjoy you Christmas dinner!

manicinsomniac · 15/12/2017 01:12

Icebear - Shock No way! Brussell sprouts are the best bit! I'd 'spend' 300 calories on them and leave the pigs in blankets, gravy and stuffing.

I suppose that's why it's so hard to estimate - too many different tastes and choices.

pasturesgreen · 15/12/2017 01:16

Then go to Wetherspoons? Confused

I highly doubt a single meal, at Christmas, is really going to derail you from your impressive weight loss.

pisacake · 15/12/2017 01:44

bollocks do 12 brussel sprouts have 100 calories.

try 50.

manicinsomniac · 15/12/2017 02:28

pisacake - they do according to myfitnesspal (well, 96 Kcal to be precise), 1 sprout = 8 calories.

VimFuego101 · 15/12/2017 02:36

I get the need to keep tabs on this but it could vary wildly. I would just call it 2,000 calories and cut down what I eat the day before and after to balance it out. I don't think it will impact your weight loss as long as you get straight back on the wagon afterwards, the reason people me gain weight over Christmas is that they eat leftovers/ wine/ cheese over the whole festive period.

roseretro · 15/12/2017 03:28

I think as a one off you’ll be fine not to count calories. Can you check the hotel/restaurant’s website and see if they have a menu online? Might give more insight there

If not, just have smaller portions on the day of low calorie meals. Go for a walk/jog/gym on the day. You won’t be set back with the meal then as your calories will even out

Nectarines · 15/12/2017 07:07

I have to count carbohydrates so that I can calculate insulin doses. It involves a lot of guesswork but I use the app ‘Carbs and Cals’ a lot. It has images of portion sizes so you can calculate fairly accurately.

Maybe worth a try?

Do people eat 12 Brussel sprouts?! I manage 4-5 and consider that a good effort Xmas Grin

Nousernameforme · 15/12/2017 07:37

Order sensibly remove, what fat you can see, eat carefully the rest of the day and stock up on grapefruit. I always seem to loose when i've had my grapefruit

Laiste · 15/12/2017 07:44

please don't talk about the amount of calories in the food at the table on the day OP

Erica891 · 15/12/2017 07:45

Give it for that special day. I personally think that if you just eat to be healthy and not to be full then you should do it in moderation. Just avoid too much carbs and sweets on that day and I guess you'll be fine.

Branleuse · 15/12/2017 07:47

just have the day off for xmas, or eat sensibly. You dont have to be scientific about calories every single day of the year. When i was dieting, I found that an occasional blow out actually often boosted metabolism

ColonelJackONeil · 15/12/2017 07:50

I find by eating very lightly for the rest of the day and eating sensibly the next day you can balance out even the biggest meal and dessert.

buggerthebotox · 15/12/2017 07:53

I think it's possible to make an educated guess. I went out for a meal last Sat and counted 1000 cals all in, for a meal of small proportions. I walked like a demon to partially offset the effects. 18000 steps Halo.

Well done on your weight loss.

I kind of understand where you're coming from. I get twitchy around calories I can't count. Grin.

Beakyplinders · 15/12/2017 07:55

YABU.

I lost a decent amount of weight a while back, albeit with slimming world so a different counting system, and when you've lost that amount of weight you just kind of know what the calorie/syn/points value of food is and if you're still trying to be extra careful you overcompensate and over count.

LakieLady · 15/12/2017 07:58

It could be anything from a few slices of turkey, 1 roast potato and plenty of steamed vegetables, to one of those dinner mountains, with 10 roasties, yorkshires, stuffing, vegetables drenched in butter, and every side dish known to man.

You've been to my house then? Grin

You forgot the gammon, btw, and all the cheese we have after pudding. I reckon if you include the wine and pudding, my Christmas dinner is easily 5,000 calories.

That's all I eat on Christmas Day though, unlike DP who always seems to have room for a turkey sandwich later on, and a shedload of Quality Street at regular intervals. The bastard still has a 30" waist, same as when I met him 30 years ago. Perhaps he's got worms?

LakieLady · 15/12/2017 08:01

*bollocks do 12 brussel sprouts have 100 calories.

try 50.*

But how much does that increase when they're blanched, then stir-fried with chestnuts and bacon?

flumpybear · 15/12/2017 08:02

50lb is brilliant - fwiw I'd just have a great Christmas meal and enjoy it, you deserve it!

MyAuntyBadger · 15/12/2017 08:16

Well done on your weight loss op. To those of you saying a Christmas dinner has 5,000 calories - is that true? I don't think I know anyone that could eat that many calories in one sitting.
