To think flushing food down the toilet is disguisting?

I was staying with my in laws last week. They had cooked a big pot of curry and had some leftovers in the pot that they wished to dispose of. So FIL marched upstairs with his large pot in hand, straight in to the toilet, scooped the contents down the toilet and flushed.

I genuinely found it repulsive. AIBU?

Water companies campaign to stop people doing this. It truely is disgusting.

NeilPetark · 13/12/2017 20:45

Why wouldn’t you just put butter beans in the bin?

UrsulaPandress · 13/12/2017 20:47

They were still sloppy.

BattleaxeGalactica · 13/12/2017 20:49

No wonder sewer rats sit salivating at the sound of a flush...

LapdanceShoeshine · 13/12/2017 20:49

If I ever have any sloppy leftovers to dispose of (rare because we generally save ours to eat later) I put some hot soapy water in the container for a bit then slosh it round, tip it all out into the sink, & scoop the (cleaned) fragments out of the sink strainer to go in the bin (in a bag if I think they'll start to smell)

Never occurred to me to lob anything like that down the loo & I agree, it's a terrible waste of food that would keep well in the fridge & could be reheated and eaten.

DubiousCredentials · 13/12/2017 20:51

Yes hampton fatbergs are actually only 0.5% fat Confused

QuestionableMouse · 13/12/2017 20:52

Meh, not getting the horror. I'm sure the pan was washed.

NeilPetark · 13/12/2017 20:52

I really don’t understand throwing left overs and wasting food. I love opening the fridge the next day and finding instant lunch.

Katedotness1963 · 13/12/2017 20:55

I drain left over foid in the colander too. Then it goes in the compost bin. (Not meat or dairy)

Yuck yuck yuck! That is indeed really gross and absolutely unnecessary. He could have drained the runny stuff into the sink and tipped whatever was left into the bin.

Rudgie47 · 13/12/2017 21:00

I think theres worse things than flushing a curry down the loo. I once went to someones house and they had yorkshire puddings floating in the toilet, so god knows what elce they were flushing down it!
We have a drain problem on our street and its been dug up by Yorkshire water many times and anything and everything has been shoved down the toilets. Loads of nappies and wet wipes etc.

BadLad · 13/12/2017 21:01

Well poo is processed food so not much difference really, but chucking curry straight in the toilet is a bit grim yes

Cutting out the middle man.

shouldnthavesaid · 13/12/2017 21:06

Oh God my mum used to do this with left over cat food.. and er cat shit. Horrendous. Not sure if she still does it. I can't bear being near her pouring anything in loo as it sets off a vomit reflex!

Same here Lapdance

It would never occur to me to pour food down the toilet.

tBH, I think it's vile!

RebelRogue · 13/12/2017 21:12

I do it with cereal and soup. Don't quite get the horror tbh.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 13/12/2017 21:14

They are very strict about ani=mal faeces down toilets - they contain "things" that can't be filtered out by the cleaning processes, and are highly toxic.

Mum2jenny · 13/12/2017 21:18

Never considered that way of disposing of sloppy things like soup, but I will consider it as it can't be worse than tipping it down the sink and picking out the lumps

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/12/2017 21:18

Thames Water has a whole list of things they don't want people to put down the toilet or sinks. This includes food waste.

Dsmummy · 13/12/2017 21:21

What are these 'leftovers' people speak of....?HmmWink

LapdanceShoeshine · 13/12/2017 21:25

They are very strict about animal faeces down toilets

who's they?

Mum2jenny · 13/12/2017 21:26

Generally I don't have leftovers but I sometimes leave a portion of soup for my dp to have for lunch but he forgets and it lurks for too long, so I bin it (or loo it now Grin)

Mum2jenny · 13/12/2017 21:28

What's the difference between human faeces and animal faeces? Serious question.

hamptonhangingpork · 13/12/2017 21:40

Mum2jenny - palm oil. That and gut bacteria.
