To think flushing food down the toilet is disguisting?

I was staying with my in laws last week. They had cooked a big pot of curry and had some leftovers in the pot that they wished to dispose of. So FIL marched upstairs with his large pot in hand, straight in to the toilet, scooped the contents down the toilet and flushed.

I genuinely found it repulsive. AIBU?

It had never occurred to me that anyone would flush food.

donajimena · 13/12/2017 20:23

Everyday is a school day on MN Envy not envy face.

mistermagpie · 13/12/2017 20:24

I don't understand why people are wringing their hands about hygiene and their pots being near a toilet... I expect the man washed the pot afterwards didn't he?

As for the issue, I have put leftover soup down the toilet before and lived to tell the tale.

Whisky2014 · 13/12/2017 20:26

I do it With soup. Not sure how else you chuck old soup away?

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/12/2017 20:26

Why didn't they eat or freeze the leftovers or if they don't eat leftovers, cook less in the first place?

I don't think putting undigested food down the toilet is the same as poo, as it's not been chewed and digested.

If you have to throw food away and it's too sloppy for the bin, bag it up. We don't have bio bins either but generally eat our leftovers - why wouldn't you - food you can eat without having to cook, what's not to like?

Gazelda · 13/12/2017 20:27

I wouldn't do this for fear of blockages. However, on the rare occasion I have waste sloppy food that can't be consumed, I wonder what I'm supposed to do with it? Put it in a jar and bin? But then it can't be recycled. Put it in a bag in the food waste bin? But then it turns the whole lot to slop which festers until the next bin collection.
What do you all do?

JingsMahBucket · 13/12/2017 20:28

@Whisky2014 put it in a plastic bag then put it in the bin.

hamptonhangingpork · 13/12/2017 20:28

I thought fatbergs were largely made up of wet wipes, san pro, nappies and vegetable oil.

[misses point of thread]

Andcake · 13/12/2017 20:29

I can't work out what's wrong except that left overs should be kept.

I do it once in a while but the pot always gets thoroughly washed and doesn't touch the toilet seat.

hamptonhangingpork · 13/12/2017 20:29

Oh, and solidified fat.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 13/12/2017 20:30

Sloppy leftovers? Pour them into a sieve in the sink, let them drain and then bin the solids.

IrkThePurist · 13/12/2017 20:31

Whats the difference between predigested and post digested food?

AtSea1979 · 13/12/2017 20:32

What if he got splash backs on his pots. Grim.
It never occurred to me to do this ever. Too sloppy for bin? It's a bin bag, it doesn't have holes in it (though I have been known to poke cereal etc down the plug hole.

Misstomrs · 13/12/2017 20:33

One of the girls at uni used to tip left over cereal into the communal toilet -it used to make me feel pretty sick to be honest.

UrsulaPandress · 13/12/2017 20:33

I threw some leftover butter beans down the loo yesterday.

Changebagsandgladrags · 13/12/2017 20:38

Doesn't it just end up as rat food? So you're keeping the rat population going...nice.

QuiteLikeable · 13/12/2017 20:38

I chuck the dregs of a pot of soup down. Can't really see why that would cause a blockage more than a solid shit. Confused

Also what is the problem with holding a pot 'near' a toilet? You've heard of...washing dishes, right?

Thisnamechanger · 13/12/2017 20:38

I do it with soup too

UrsulaPandress · 13/12/2017 20:39

I'm not sure I'm entirely responsible for the rat population.

specialsubject · 13/12/2017 20:41

Toilet not bin. Learn the difference. How skanky.

And food waste also means people have too much money.

Gazelda · 13/12/2017 20:41

ILikeYourHairyHands I cant believe I've not thought of that BlushBlush. How incredibly obvious!

Changebagsandgladrags · 13/12/2017 20:41

Well not just you UrsulaPandress

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 13/12/2017 20:43

I'm going to have to hide this thread. I didn't realise I had such a queasy stomach!

UrsulaPandress · 13/12/2017 20:43

Sheesh. I ate a tin of butter beans for my lunch and left six. And I am quite happy to throw them down the loo. If I'd eaten them then thrown up in the loo what would the difference be?

Margomyhero · 13/12/2017 20:44

I have never heard of anyone flushing food down the toilet before .

We would eat it if possible. Or put it on5rhe bin.
