To think if someone doesn’t answer the door the first time you shouldn’t keep knocking?

I know trivial problem but I’m so pissed off. Have the day off today and have been expecting a parcel. Of course the parcel had to arrive at the time that I was in the middle of an important conference call with bosses and me doing the pitching so no way I could stop the call to open my front door!

I was taking the call in my living room that is by the front door and the postman rang the bell four times, I ignored it and then he starting banging and opened my letter box and could hear me talking.

He then disappeared but came back 2 minutes later and was banging again maybe 5/6 times and ringing the bell constantly!

Obviously if I was in a position to open my front door, I bloody would have the first time as now I have to wait till tomorrow and collect from post office.

AIBU to think you shouldn’t keep knocking and ringing a bell if someone doesn’t answer? I completely lost my train of thought on the call through it all and sounded like a bumbling idiot!

In my defence the parcel is actually a week late but that’s not the point, I knew it would be knocking for a parcel when I heard it.

I could not have stopped my call to open the door. As I’ve said, if I was in a position to open it I would have as no one likes having to go to the post office. My time is not more important than his and it’s going to take me far more time to go and collect it so that point is just fishing for insults. My point is if someone doesn’t answer the door then you don’t keep banging, there could be many reasons why someone’s not answering and It’s rude.

@olive someone really pissed on your cereal this morning, not a fan of working woman? Grin

Yes I know it was a delivery driver hence why I said I find it MORE annoying when it's a cold caller.

I still think op YANBU. She was essentially in the middle of a work meeting. Yes she was expecting a package, but I doubt she was expecting it to arrive at the same time she was having a meeting. If the parcel gets left with a neighbour or at the depot, so be it.

Congratulations, you topped your previous comment (in your last post to me,) on the stupidity scale.

VladmirsPoutine · 13/12/2017 16:31

not a fan of working woman?

You go girl!!!! More power to your elbow!!
Closing deals, pitching and all that whilst being disturbed by the bloody postman. What will you take on next? Did you clinch the deal? Is it worth $50million to the client??

Just noticed this.

Adding extra bits/drip feeding to suit your argument.

Bad form, Not cool. Hmm

Guess it happens though when an OP realises most people are not on her side. Wink

I was going to post but you'll see my answer on the last thread about this . . .

diddl · 13/12/2017 16:36

Perhaps though he thought he was doingfa favour by trying to prevent you having to go to the PO to fetch the parcel.

Just lately here there's a new guy who doesn't knock/ring, just leaves the stuff on the terrasse!

We do have that down as an ok place to leave stuff-but it's supposed to be when there's no one in!

Its not just delivery people who do this.....when I was having chemo my supposedly friend /neighbour sent her child round because the child wanted to go to the local fair but wasnt allowed on her own so came round to ask my son to go with her.

So I am in bed very poorly and the door bell rings a few times, then the phone started ringing.....5 min later the door bell....5 min later the phone and again and again.

When I eventually get to the phone my friend is saying why they have been knocking and phoning....I say well I was in bed like you are well aware of....yes I know she says but knew we would eventually wake you if we kept trying Hmm

PersianCatLady · 13/12/2017 16:44

That is appalling.

When my friend had chemo, if I had not seen her all day I would go into her house with the key and just check she was OK.

I quite often went in, saw her sleeping, left a note, took the dog out and brought it back without waking her.

The chemo made her need her sleep so much that it would have been acceptable to wake her for anything other than a genuine emergency.

God it’s hostile in here today, I was clearly joking!

Just looked at the main post on the other thread, I really hope people aren’t implying that I have that much time on my hands to write two threads about the same minor issue a week apart.

Especially as I do have very busy and important job to be getting on with, we’re not all sat on the sofa writing threads the same threads waiting for the postman Grin
(That was a joke, those do still exist)

Ok so main MN opinion is I should have stopped my call, with many people on board mid figures to answer my door. My AIBU wasn’t actually asking that though, I was saying people shouldn’t knock over and over.

People are welcome to disagree with me, but there’s no need for rude comments such as this -

You go girl!!!! More power to your elbow!!
Closing deals, pitching and all that whilst being disturbed by the bloody postman. What will you take on next? Did you clinch the deal? Is it worth $50million to the client??

As for your other point, I reported you to MNHQ for troll hunting and implying I wrote both points, I’m sure they’ll be happy to clear it up for you.

Oh dear, you ARE upset that people aren't agreeing with you aren't you?

I wasn't going to do this, but I am gonna report YOU now as the suspected person who clearly posted the other thread.

See ya.

Timeforanamochango · 13/12/2017 17:03

*implying I wrote both posts that should say not points.

As I’ve said I don’t care if people disagree, I just think you’re derailing my thread by implying I posted two separate threads (and also being way to over invested but I’m enjoying the laughs at that) so reported you for MN to confirm the other one is not me.

I've just re-read the entire thread, and have to admit I can't find the bit where you are 'clearly joking'. Where is that, exactly, please? All I can see is you moaning about the delivery driver trying to deliver your expected package, you more or less implying that your telephone call was far more important than the delivery driver's time, and you complaining about posters not agreeing with you.

Which bit of your posts were 'clearly joking' - I honestly can't see it. Sorry.

Timeforanamochango · 13/12/2017 17:13

@evans I realise I cross posted when I said that, I meant my comment that said ‘not a fan of working woman’ And two people jumped on it so I was replying to them but others posted in between so it probably looks a bit odd

OP posts:
Aridane · 13/12/2017 17:29

Thanks for posting the link, maroon - glad I wasn't imagining the other thread.

Now awaiting the 'bun fight' deletion message...

crazycatgal · 13/12/2017 17:29

@oliveinacampervan Why are you so aggressive and invested in this thread?

DeleteOrDecay · 13/12/2017 17:52

Olive you're coming across as a bit of a twat now to be honest.

Yerroblemom1923 · 13/12/2017 18:00

You placed an order, he tried todeliver it and could blatantly see you were in and ignoring him so tried harder to get said item to you! You were ignoring him. Now THAT'S rude. I'm sure you could've explained to whoever you were chatting to on the phone that you needed to take a parcel in and they would've understood- it's your day off and coming up to xmas.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 13/12/2017 18:01

I agree with Pinkpowerofthought. The postie could probably see and hear you and wondered whether you were deaf or something. Or maybe he was really frustrated with being ignored at the busiest time of year for them. If it were me I'd have put a note on the door just for the duration of the call, saying "sorry, unable to come to the door" with instructions where to leave the parcel. Everyone's happy then.
