To ask you what you love about Edinburgh

DP is being relocated to Edinburgh for work and I am currently a somewhat reluctant follower. I don't know Edinburgh at all and the only time I went I was very cold and there was a strong smell I think from a brewery.

I really want to be positive and on board with this move so please tell me all the great things about Edinburgh so that I can get excited about it and start looking forward to it. I'm desperate to fall in love with it. Literally anything please - what's great about living there?

I love Edinburgh. It is the best city in the UK I think.

Dinner at The Witchery up by the castle is amazing!

I adore Edinburgh. If I ever relocate back to the UK, it will definitely be here. Great cultural stuff going on, vibrant but managable-sized city centre. Great transport links for longer distances (airport, train) and so much outdoors stuff to do within easy reach at the weekends - mountains, climbing, skiing, distilleries, walking, biking ... I could go on! Best of town and country living. Friends with families there also confirm that there's lots going on for children.

And Portobello is not always silly money unless you have to have a period property. Our 2 bed flat is the top half of a Victorian semi and cost us just under £250k (with private garden and huge convertible attic) but my sister bought a 3 bed modern semi with front and back gardens and hot tub for £180k at the same time

I'm glad to hear that because this is what my parents are getting for Christmas this year! Grin

I'm super-jealous. My (Dutch) DH lived in Edinburgh for a little while many years ago and he still waxes lyrical about it. I've only visited for work and didn't have time to see anything but was still struck by its atmosphere and beauty.

Watch 'Sunshine on Leith' - a fabulous film anyway, but I think it'll also give you a taste of the city.

Both Edinburgh and Glasgow are wonderful, OP. Stunning architecture, so much history and loads to see and do. Don't forget about the surrounding beautiful countryside, lochs and magnificent castles, too.

I moved up here almost 2 years ago and don't want to move back to England at all.

I hope you love it up here when you move.
