Not an AIBU, but posting for traffic.

Statistics released today show:

113 women were killed by men in England, Wales & Northern Ireland in 2016

100 of them were killed by someone they knew

78 of them were killed by their current/ex-partner

More than three-quarters of those women killed by their former partner died within the first year of separating from them.

Full article from BBC: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-42270719

“The Femicide Census says the total number of killings of women by men in 2016 is thought to be higher than the 113 it recorded because a number of cases are still under investigation and police forces did not provide some details to its freedom of information requests.”

Bare in mind we're coming into the 'festive' season too. That's usually when the fun starts. Or Holy Thursday or Valentines Day in my time. :) Fun times.

Sadly we had one occurance just down the road from us about 3 yrs ago, she had left him, but not sure how long before and had returned to the house to pick up her daughter(for some reason children/teens were all living with him) and he killed her with her 7yr old upstairs Sad
She left behind 5 children/young adults

I'm just waiting on someone to pop up on this thread and say what about the men though.. Sad

Fine, I'll bite. Regardless of if the victim is male or female, there does need to be more refuges and support out there for them.

The bigger problem is that there is no way to stop abusive people from forming new relationships with people and starting the cycle all over again. Legally we cannot ship them off to a deserted island or tattoo their face so that new potential partners instantly know that they are abusive.

Pumperthepumper · 10/12/2017 19:18

Kpo58 have you signed the petition? I guess that’s all we can do about the refuge problem for just now. I agree it’s an absolute disgrace that this is even in question.

But it’s not ‘regardless if the victim is male
or female’ - overwhelmingly the victims are female, and they’re victims of men. Even male victims are the victims of men by an absolutely massive margin. So refuge is vital for victims of any sex but we also need to look at the reasons for male violence to stop this happening.

Kpo58 - bite away.

Signed. My mother escaped an abusive relationship and fortunately met and married my Dad.

If you want to help further you could:

1.Set up a donation with a women’s refuge charity like this: www.refuge.org.uk/donate/

  1. Or while you are doing your shopping online, go to Amazon’s “Find a Wish List” Page - ]]

-Type “women’s aid” into the search box - a list of all the registered refuges will appear.

-Select one, perhaps your local one or close to somewhere you have a connection.

-Pick something from their Wish List and gift it to them.

-The items on their Wish Lists are never “sexy”, things like duvet covers, kitchen utensils, etc, but they are essentials that women with nothing need.

  1. When you are sorting out your children’s old clothes, instead of putting them in a charity doorstep bag, why not phone your local women’s refuge and ask if they need any donations. I did this with the baby clothes DS had outgrown earlier this year.

Do make sure you phone first to check what they need as they often don’t have space to store unneeded items.

As incidents of domestic violence are known to increase at this time of year I thought I’d bump this thread.

Sadly we had a further reminder of the dangers this week: Jodie Willsher was stabbed to death as she worked at her local Aldi by Neville Hord, reported to be her mother's ex-boyfriend.

RIP Jodie Sad
