So we have to come to work in one next Friday. The thought of paying for and wearing a tacky one is killing me. Bah humbug and all that...
Is there such a thing as a nice one? I'm thinking stars or something that i could possibly wear again?
Please help, oh wise ones!

My worst nightmare, as a menopausal fat woman to be sweating my droopy tits off in a jumper with a large motif on the front drawing the eye to my huge belly.

Perhaps if I was a svelt wee slip of a thing I might be less of a grinch Xmas Blush

Hellywelly10 · 07/12/2017 23:21

Just don't do it.

As others have said - just don't do it. I ignore all dress down days and this sort of stuff.

Ceto · 08/12/2017 00:08

I've got one I made It's not too garish, a black background with Christmas trees and snowmen on it, I'm really quite proud of it.

HuskyMcClusky · 08/12/2017 00:11

I hate jumpers, and I would hate this. So glad I live in Australia where it’s too hot for such malarkey.

No way would I buy a jumper just for this. Get a naff Santa badge and pin it on a normal jumper.

BhajiAllTheWay · 08/12/2017 05:35

charity shop near us has a whole rail of them at £2.50. You dont have to spend loads. Or just a hat or headband..

Anniegetyourgun · 08/12/2017 05:42

They used to do a "pay to wear jeans" day periodically where I worked for a while. I didn't play and I didn't pay. I said I wore jeans when I wanted to and I was damned if I would hand out money for the privilege. Oh, and a "wear something red" day. Didn't play that one either. I very rarely wear red and I wasn't about to start.

On the flip side, if people are wearing jumpers in order to avoid giving money to charity, what does that say about them?

ScreamingValenta · 08/12/2017 07:07

Annie Where I work, you don't pay to avoid wearing the jumper - you pay for the 'privilege' of wearing it Xmas Grin.

underneaththeash · 08/12/2017 07:08

Poor DH is 6'6" and has to wear one next week for work....but they just don't make them in his size. (I'm not making something!!)

The best we could come up with is a XXL from Next, so the length is okay, but the sleeves are around 3" too short and he looks ridiculous.

MaisyPops · 08/12/2017 07:12

I've bought 2 from sainsburys. I hate cheesy chridtmas jumpers but these were lovely.
One has some abstract snowflakes on but really it just looks like a nice jumper and the other one is a few years old but it's a jumper dress which looks nice.

MassDebate · 08/12/2017 07:17

I seem to be the only person looking forward to wearing mine Grin. I've even bought an extra special lighting up, musical one this year for extra tackiness!

I remain utterly baffled at how in a few short years Christmas themed jumpers have gone from an embarrassing fashion faux pas that caused Bridget Jones to look askance at Colin Firth, to a virtually compulsory December uniform.

Last year MIL decreed that we all had to wear Christmas jumpers for our family Christmas gathering. Er, no, thank you.

MaisyPops · 08/12/2017 07:25

I've had mine on since November but they aren't full cheesy christmas jumpers.

I also hate halloween abd fancy dress too. Anything sort of 'look at me isn't this silly' makes me feel really awkward.

So I just do the festive bits I'm happy with. Nobody minds because I love Christmas so it not like i'm a grinch

ButtfaceMiscreant · 08/12/2017 07:27

Aldi have some for around £8, which is not too bad, and they don't look awful either.

SottoVoc3 · 08/12/2017 07:29

Wear an ordinary jumper and put a tinsel necklace on. Make a donation.
Or buy something like this from Whistles that you can wear any day...- v subtle ( too subtle???)

You don't have to take part.

I personally quite like it! I've got 6 working days left till I break up for Christmas and I have a different Christmas top for each day to wear (I work with children and am running a messy play group too) I only wear them in December but I have had them for about 10 years now!

My jumper I can wear for longer as it's technically a winter one as it has a robin on the front and isn't really Christmassy.

Herja · 08/12/2017 07:31

I got a lovely one from new look and few years ago. It's chunky cream wool in a slouch style, with little sparkly snowflakes on it. They do similar ones most years.

BikeRunSki · 08/12/2017 07:35

I also hate Christmas jumpers, but since Work, Cubs (I am a Cub leader), my sports club all insist on having a CJ day, I gritted my teeth and bought one from a charity shop. I grin and bear it a few tones a year.

BacktoworkonMonday · 08/12/2017 07:37

I bought my first ever Christmas jumper this year in the M&S outlet. It has a sequined Christmas tree on it. It's a little bit tacky (imo), but not overly so and definitely won't look out of place as I work in a school. Wasn't too expensive and I will be able to wear it in future years.
If you don't want to wear one, you don't have too. I generally out out of most of our dressing up days and it's never been a problem.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 08/12/2017 07:40

Gap have a fairly simple one with a single snowflake on it. I bought dd17 a grey top from there with little embroidered gold stars on. I would wear it at a push. I think it was £15 (although may have beeen Black Friday weekends).

LazyDailyMailJournos · 08/12/2017 07:56

Tesco have a nice grey sequinned snowflake jumper although I can't find it on their website. I bought one last Friday so I know they exist! Pale grey with a few pinky silvery snowflakes appliqued on it - very tasteful, not garish and not so Christmassy that you couldn't wear it again throughout the winter. Also not too expensive.

Lovemusic33 · 08/12/2017 08:01

I was in tk max a few days ago and they had amazing bright green knitted jumpers for £16, was thinking you could stick some Pom poms on it (using pins) and it would look like a Christmas tree, then the jumper would still be wearable for the rest of the year (if you like green jumpers). I might have to go back and buy one.
