Breakfast on Christmas Day.

Am I the only person who doesn't get this obsession with huge breakfasts on Christmas Day? Nearly everyone I speak to,or read about (yes,on MN too!) say they're having a full English or similar. I was reading an article in the Co-op supermarket magazine yesterday and saw the comment along the lines of 'make sure you have a big breakfast to keep you going and make sure you have plenty of food to give your guests and family'. And this was assuming you were eating dinner at about 2pm. I have always had Christmas dinner at about 5pm,quite late by some peoples' standards, but I know for sure that if I ate a massive breakfast at about 10am and kept eating things like mince pies, sausage rolls and canapés all day,I would not be able to do justice to my dinner? Don't get me wrong,I'm NOT bragging about having a tiny appetite and neither am I slim. I am quite greedy by nature and overweight but I do like to sit down to Christmas dinner feeling hungry and able to eat it all! Or is it just me?

I have salmon and eggs or something with cranberry wensledale cheese

I wouldn't eat a fry up due to Xmas dinner and who the hell eats dinner at 2pm

BulletFox · 08/12/2017 20:27

Oh god it's one thing I get enthusiastic about, you get up, have seafood and champers, prepare lunch afterwards. It's luscious!

Bugs, Canadian toast (French toast with bacon and maple syrup), pink grapefruit juice and prosecco, Mass, presents, Christmas Dinner.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 08/12/2017 20:33

Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels!

As much as I love a fry up I couldn’t be dealing with cooking one on Christmas Day. They make the house stink for starters!

mygorgeousmilo · 08/12/2017 20:39

We always have Christmas tree shaped crumpets at the extremely early time that the kids get up. My husband and I have coffees, kids have warm vanilla milk Grin then at about 12 we have a kind of cold and smoked seafood platter with proper bagels and maybe some pickles and cheeses. We have some amazing fishmongers nearby and always order some delicious stuff. Once that’s done I start doing the dinner for about 4pm.

I used to do a full English, but its too much. I have a bacon or sausage sandwich now.
I used to have champagne, Bucks Fizz or a vodka with it, but I just stick with coffee now until later.

fairgame84 · 08/12/2017 20:47

Cup of tea and selection box for me.
I have dinner at 1pm so don't bother with a big breakfast.

Shouldnotwouldnot · 08/12/2017 20:48

I’ve never heard of a full English on Xmas day. We have scrambled eggs and smoked salmon

Maireadplastic · 08/12/2017 21:42

Shouldnot- I have.

Munchkinbug · 08/12/2017 22:42

@MsHomeSlice you are a woman after my own heart!

And @spanieleyes, you have given me much to think about - this sounds awesome as well.

I really love Christmas.

PyongyangKipperbang · 08/12/2017 23:49

So many people say scrambled egg and smoked salmon!

I have had it and its gopping! Why so many fans?!

RaindropsAndSparkles · 08/12/2017 23:59

It's a waste of smoked salmon mostly. Have had it nicely done in posh hotels. Round of toast (faintly done with a pastry cutter) two or three rounds of salmon on that, then the perfectly scrambled egg, sprinkled with chive. That works.

PyongyangKipperbang · 09/12/2017 00:09

I have had it in a proper top notch restaurant and I still didnt like it, yy to a waste of salmon!

mathanxiety · 09/12/2017 00:16

Holy crap, me too, Polarbearflavour.

Shock
purplebunny2012 · 09/12/2017 00:30

We just have toast, with bucks fizz

Lillyringlet · 09/12/2017 01:39

Wait... People don't just inhale sweets and chocolate from their stocking instead of breakfast?

JanKind · 09/12/2017 03:35

Buck's Fizz smoked salmon and scrambled eggs

Fertile87 · 09/12/2017 05:23

We have bacon and eggs sausages and all the trimmings! Tomatoes, mushrooms beans and have always had a little bowl of porridge! Around tennish. Then have dinner around 6. We love christmas and do it big every year. We are all grown tho, first grsnchild is now a two year old who does it with us! Works for us!

Ethylred · 09/12/2017 05:55

Smoked reindeer on consecrated communion wafers.

Purplealienpuke · 09/12/2017 06:53

Personally I have the same thing every morning, copious amounts of tea and several cigarettes!!
If I had people in the house Xmas morning (past that, empty nest) I would do little sausages and little crusty part baked rolls.
Definitely no full breakfast! Who can eat a full English AND a Christmas dinner in the same day??? & I love food!!!
I would NOT be cooking too meals in one day & anyone who asked me to would be told to FUCK OFF!! 🤔

Purplealienpuke · 09/12/2017 06:54

Two not too!!

3nonblondedd78 · 09/12/2017 06:56

Bucks fizz and croissants here.

Ecureuil · 09/12/2017 07:00

I would NOT be cooking too meals in one day & anyone who asked me to would be told to FUCK OFF!!

I’m confused by all these ‘I’m not cooking two meals in one day’ angry posts... I’m assuming there are generally other adults in your house on Christmas Day? I usually do breakfast, DH does dinner.

maddiemookins16mum · 09/12/2017 07:33

Smoked salmon makes me heave, the texture of it and the smell combined is just rank. I really want to like it though but just can't.

DiscotequeJuliet · 09/12/2017 07:45

I find this odd too. I'm a greedy guts, but if I ate a full English for breakfast, I would be able to eat another meal til 7pm onwards. We eat Xmas lunch at 1pm here.

I also couldn't face salmon first thing though.

We usually have croissants and pain au chocolat. Quite light, no preparation time or washing up after. Bob's your uncle.
