The weekday mornings are hectic and I've exhausted all porridge options, forms of egg and pancakes. DH will eat bacon etc, but not the DDs. Please share any quick breakfast recipes that take no longer than 20 mins.

Sainsbury's cherry compote on porridge is lovely

deepestdarkestperu · 07/12/2017 21:13

I didn't realise people actually cooked breakfast during the week - I just have a banana and a coffee!

At weekends I get up later and have toast, a bacon sandwich, or croissants. I honestly couldn't be bothered with cooking a hot breakfast everyday - I'd rather get some extra sleep!

formerbabe · 07/12/2017 21:15

Ditto!

Butterymuffin · 07/12/2017 21:20

OP, sounds like you want these to be non-bread or cereal breakfasts? Best to make that clear as those will feature in many suggestions.

I love a full English or bacon butty but rarely have time in the week so tend to pick from a bagel, tomatoes on toast, or muesli.

Tullula · 07/12/2017 21:20

We do cooked breakfast as often as we can.

Quickest options I do are sardines on toast or beans on toast. Poached eggs/ omelette/ scrambled eggs.

Sometimes I preset the oven with frozen sausages in the evening. So they defrost overnight, and are cooked by 7am. No food poisoning yet.

oldlaundbooth · 07/12/2017 21:26

I usually have scrambled eggs, done in the microwave. Takes two mins.

I love porridge but it doesn't fill me up.

Blackcatonthesofa · 07/12/2017 22:17

Breakfast during my childhood was bread without exception. We could choose between ham, cheese, peanut butter, jam and during the weekend we were treated to fancy cold cuts and an egg. I think that the lack of a zillion options was why there was less obesity. Ithelped me at least. I seriously gained weight when I grew up and there was more to choosd

Blackcatonthesofa · 07/12/2017 22:18

And sandwiches are pretty quick.

crazypenguinlady · 07/12/2017 22:41

I can't be bothered to think so much about breakfast and I love food

During the week, I have porridge with honey or toast with a variety of toppings, DP always has Fuel cereal. DS (9m) has porridge, Weetabix, Shreddies, Cheerios, cornflakes or toast with peanut butter, all with fruit and milk or yogurt. On weekends, we have pancakes, crumpets, croissants or French toast.

PumpkinSquash · 07/12/2017 22:47

Blimey, everyone I know has the basic toast/cereal/fruit. Isn't that the norm for weekdays???

Yeah, it is. It's "there's the bread on the table, we have jam, we have peanut butter, marmalade, there''s also porridge, two types of cereal, get stuck in and get your own." Grin
(They're 10 and 14 and more than capable lol.)

LemonysSnicket · 07/12/2017 22:48

i have toast and marmalade or granola and yoghurt ... why are you cooking?
save the good shit for the weekend so they appreciate it.

TabbyTigger · 07/12/2017 22:52

We often have:
Houmous on toast
Toast and jam/marmalade
Toasting waffles with fruit/yoghurt
Toasted muffins/crumpets/bagels always available

And I always make a smoothie/milkshake thing - strawberries, orange juice, milk and yoghurt.

TrinityTaylor · 07/12/2017 22:58

My dds like a cheese and ham toastie for breakfast Blush

Ollivander84 · 07/12/2017 23:08

I usually have
Mushroom and cheese omelette
Greek yoghurt with low sugar clarks brand sauce and berries
Banana pancakes (banana and egg) with above yog/sauce combo
Beans and scrambled egg

grumpysquash3 · 07/12/2017 23:11

Hot buttered crumpets with honey?

Would they eat an omelette? Spanish omelette is my DCs fave.

Grilled pitta bread with a bit of melty cheese?

Florene · 07/12/2017 23:12

As a child I used to like heated up tinned tomatoes on hot buttered toast as a breakfast alternative to scrambled eggs!

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 07/12/2017 23:18

Cut open croissant, add cheese and ham, microwave for a minute. Nom!

CherriesInTheSnow · 07/12/2017 23:37

@TrinityTaylor ham and cheese toasties are my absolute favourite breakfast :) Nothing to be Blush about, they're very breakfasty IMO and nice and balanced - can make with seedy wholemeal bread and they're got plenty of protein in them!

CherriesInTheSnow · 07/12/2017 23:37

they've* Blush

DorisDangleberry · 07/12/2017 23:52

Gin for breakfast has no downside

Hotheadwheresthecoldbath · 07/12/2017 23:52

My dd spreads a wrap with Nutella, rolls it up and put it and a cup of milk in the microwave enough to warm both and eats.

LadyLoveYourWhat · 07/12/2017 23:57

Why are you worrying about the amount of wheat? I'm a seeded toast, butter and marmite girl, never get tired of it. Though the Waitrose festive fruit loaf is bloody gorgeous, I think it may be enriched dough?

DonkeyOil · 08/12/2017 00:03

There's nothing like a Mumsnet meals thread to make you feel inadequate!

WindyWindy · 08/12/2017 00:03

CornFlakes
Rice Krispies
Shreddies

Kingsclerelass · 08/12/2017 01:31

20 minutes! Wow, you're good. More like 40 seconds in our house.

Apple bread made at the weekend & frozen. Stick it in a warm oven before you shower.....My ds has toast & marmite and a tangerine.
