To wonder why MN is so left wing/liberal?

MN hates Brexit, the tories, pink toys, violent video games... you get the idea. But in real life most women don't mind buying gender specific toys/clothes and the election/brexit female vote was about 50/50. So what makes this place 90% lefty/lib when general society is either split or completely reversed? Confused

Are you sure you're not conflating "hate", with criticism of? I'm not suggesting you are necessarily, but many people I speak to / correspond with, seem to be..

Hate / hate crime is defined subjectively (it's one if you feel it's one) so reports of it will rise when people are expecting more of it, and even more so if they are being encouraged to look out for it and report it.

makeourfuture · 08/12/2017 09:57

they hate bankers

Well immigrants change bed sheets in care homes.

Bankers crash the freakin economy, show no remorse and move on to the next bubble.

WindyWindy · 08/12/2017 09:59

I think Iceland had the right idea with their rogue bankers tbh.

WindyWindy · 08/12/2017 10:01

But I don't have bankers. I just think a bit of responsibility is necessary for the system to be functional.

WindyWindy · 08/12/2017 10:03

Should be " hate".
My keyboard was feeling compassion not hate!

LiveLifeWithPassion · 08/12/2017 10:20

Immigrants change sheets in bed homes? I know immigrants who are bankers.

BertrandRussell · 08/12/2017 10:23

The word "hate" seems to have come to mean "disagree with". Which is a real shame because we need a word that means "hate"......

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 08/12/2017 10:24

Well maybe it didn't spark her interest until now. I think she had a right to feel angry-it's her future. My Cousin stopped talking to her Dad over his vote. I expect it caused a lot of family rifts all over the country.

makeourfuture · 08/12/2017 10:52

Immigrants change sheets in bed homes? I know immigrants who are bankers.

Point taken.

Missymoo100 · 08/12/2017 11:41

I read a poster who said the key is tolerance but I disagree

"Tolerance is the virtue of the man without convictions" Chesterton

we should not tolerate everything because some things are not good for our society. You have to sometimes stand up for what you believe is right not just to go with the flow in case you cause offence.

Missymoo100 · 08/12/2017 11:45

And no one hates immigrants but it is ok to recognise we have finite resources and we cannot possibly just relocate everyone as a solution to the worlds problems.

Missymoo100 · 08/12/2017 11:49

There aren't enough houses, school places, the NHS and police stretched to the limits... but it's "hateful" to mention this.

BertrandRussell · 08/12/2017 11:57

Missy-can I just ask-who would staff the NHS if it wasn't for immigrants?

Missymoo100 · 08/12/2017 12:00

Well for last few years I've wanted to retrain as a nurse but competition is fierce for places and the vast majority of applicants are knocked back.... how about funding more uni places?

Missymoo100 · 08/12/2017 12:01

Seriously only a small percentage of applicants get a place, how is that fair?

Missymoo100 · 08/12/2017 12:02

Plus I'm not talking about skilled workers, but mass migration of unskilled people to uk drives down wages for everyone

makeourfuture · 08/12/2017 12:04

how about funding more uni places?

How about funding the NHS appropriately?

Build more houses?

BertrandRussell · 08/12/2017 12:04

You're not suggesting that immigrants are jumping the job queue, are you?

BertrandRussell · 08/12/2017 12:05

"mass migration of unskilled people"
Do we have mass migration of unskilled people?

BertrandRussell · 08/12/2017 12:06

And it was a conservative government who took away bursaries for nurse training....

Missymoo100 · 08/12/2017 12:06

If you think substantially and quickly increasing the population isn't go to have any impact on services your deluded.
And if the government invested more money in training people or hadn't made a degree for nursing mandatory we wouldn't have such a shortage of NHS staff.

makeourfuture · 08/12/2017 12:07

Austerity has nothing to do with immigration.

Missymoo100 · 08/12/2017 12:07

I've said many a time that I think the Tories as they stand are dismal, i am not defending them

shhhfastasleep · 08/12/2017 12:08

I'm old enough to have received free uni education (full grant as well because parents were poor). It was really hard to get a uni place and there was a big controversy about adequate apprenticeships and training for those that didn't go.
Uni now looks like a money making scam .
We need fewer places that are harder to get into but that are free AND an apprenticeship system with value that a greater number of people can access.

Zevitevitchofcrimas · 08/12/2017 12:08

We need immigration to any country, properly controlled on a need basis like Canada, Australia the US.
Therefore if your a nurse and we need you, android you would like to live here..
. You can apply.

Arguing that we need immigration at all to cover up for allowing the country to be flooded with anyone who wants to come here with no checks and balances is a narrow short sighted thing to say.

There was a study conducted that pointed out non English speaking immigrants were more likely to pitch up in a and e than registrar and go to a doctors first, especially if they only planned on staying here in short bursts, and were not returning to the same area.
There are multitudes of knock on effects from a sudden wave of people going to one area.

Of course this gets nicely condensed down by some posters.
