To ask do you tidy up after yourself?

Been in McDonald's today people watching. I always make sure that everything goes back on to the tray or bag then either a member of staff will take it off me as I have the pushchair or i do it.

Just surprised how many people leave food scattered over the floor and table , rubbish everywhere. Table next to us was three adults and 1 toddler so plenty of hands to tidy up but they just walked out leaving carnage.

So do most people tidy or leave it? And if you leave it are you not embarrassed?

I always tidy!

Iv always tidied away, DH when we first met was very much 'someone is paid to do that' I soon corrected that way of thinking!

Yes, as do my children.

Yes, I'm always a bit at the people who can't be arsed to tidy their mess, it's not difficult. I'd be ashamed if DS grew up to think that was an acceptable way to behave.

Same with dropping litter, I heard a woman actually tell her young son to just throw his crisp packet in the canal the other day!

Yes absolutely. I hate having to clean the table from the lazy people that were there befote.
Any restaurant or café that has food bins in the sitting area means you are supposed to do it yourself - simple.

Always tidy away after myself. I do it in any food courts etc, even in a pub or restaurant I pile the plates up lol 🙈. My DP always laughs at me lol x

What disgusts me is getting off a plane and seeing the mountains of filth left behind by someone people. There's absolutely no need, the cabin crew walk past a couple of times with rubbish bags. It's such a dirty lazy thing to do, shameless pigs.

Really winds me up.
Bad manners imo.
Also a sad indicator of how people value McDonald's workers.

If you take it to the table, you clear it up

Not only do I tidy up after myself, I pick up rubbish on the way to the bins and I use the recycling bins.

In McDonald's near me they bring it to the table, which suggests table service restaurant. There's no signs telling you to clear it up yourself. It's one of those' well everyone does it' things in that clearing up yourself is something you do because, well, everyone does it. Brilliant marketing by McDonald's. if everyone stopped doing it though they'd have to employ more staff to do the job we are all doing for free.

I notice this a lot in cinemas, I go with friends who are usually very tidy considerate people but as they leave they just leave empty popcorn boxes by the seats. I understand that there are people paid to tidy the cinema but surely it’s just basic good manners to pop your rubbish in the bin rather than leave it for someone else to deal with?

Last time I went to the cinema there was an announcement to leave your rubbish at your seat.

The other week I was in a coffee shop. The people before me left all their rubbish but had the most convenient seats so I tidied it up and started to take it to the counter. Not yet out of my coat , and with two small children - obviously not staff. As I passed a table one massively up her own back side cow nonchalantly leaned back as I stopped to tell my kids to sit down and and added her pots to my pile without even speaking to me. I took her pots off the pile , put them back on her table, without speaking, to return the favour . When she left she put her pots on my table! I know it's minor but I was gob smacked by her rudeness - if she'd asked I'd have done it. I bet she treats actual staff horrendously

I do clear up but I don’t do that fussy thing of pile plates precariously, stuff napkins into bowl/plate and cluck about during meal tidying up
Or get under tables to lift food debris

Always! Even in cafes with table service if I've just had a coffee and cake, as it doesn't take me any extra time and I bet it'd save the staff loads of time clearing every table

I didn’t used to in McDonalds type places until I went to Japan. Everyone there tidies and puts their tray away (yes I know going to McDonalds in Japan is another whole topic). It suddenly dawned on me what a slob I was and I’ve tidied up after myself ever since.

I always do - and take glasses back to the bar in pubs. DH is the same.

I find these days the staff usually take the tray off you before you get to the bin, so I always smile and thank them.

No I wouldn’t clear my table in a restaurant or a bar.id expect staff to do so

Surely that's why there is no difference between the eat in or take away price, the staff aren't meant to be tidying up after you.

LipstickHandbagCoffee what about something like McD's or Morrison's where its clearly clear your own so the next person doeant have to wade amongst all your crap? Our McD's has a huge turnover lunchtimes with the local college, terrible mothers like me and the old people who come in on their own. If no one cleared the tables you would literally have no where to sit

I take my empties/plates/rubbish up to the counter/tray storage in fast food places, cafes, bars. When my kids were little, if the made an awful mess I'd ask for a brush and pan, sometimes I got it, sometimes they said it was okay, they'd take care of it.

I clear the table but I'm not picking up crap off the floor.

From another angle though, I used to work in McDonalds. If everyone cleared up after themselves too much you had nothing at all to do when you were on the floor. It was boring and you got told you weren't working hard enough!
