To think this is really inconvenient ?

So national grid are replacing the gas pipes on my street and in my home.. ( why don't people just stick to the saying if it's not broken don't fix it!) so today is 'my appointment' for them to come and disconnect my gas to do this. So I had to allow them in at 8am this morning ( I told them to come back at 9 as I said I had breakfast and kids to get off at school) so they came and disconnected it and now I have to wait all evening between 4pm-8pm for them to restore my gas supply. So they could come at any point whilst I'm cooking and I will have to cook tea ( gas cupboard is in my kitchen next to my cooker in a cupboard!)
So now my kids will have to eat their tea whilst having strangers come in and out of the house. It's annoyed me! And we have had no hot water all day!
Am I being unreasonable to think this is inconvenient and unacceptable ?

Is that you mum?

Oysterbabe · 04/12/2017 19:02

Yeah you're being a whingebag. It's just one day and obviously necessary work.

Justmuddlingalong · 04/12/2017 19:04

Really OP? What about this scenario, would this be OK if the boot was on the other foot?
'Hello, is that the gas board? I need someone out immediately, as I have a gas leak and I'm scared of an explosion.'
'Ok madam, we'll send someone out sometime tomorrow, coz all of our gas engineers will be tucked up in bed, it's late don'tyaknow.'

Maelstrop · 04/12/2017 19:08

You know you're being unreasonable. What the heck do you want the company to do??

JustHereForThePooStories · 04/12/2017 19:14

Laughable. Serious moaning going on there.

Cop on.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 04/12/2017 19:18

So don't cook while they are there, problem solved. Don't tell me you have can't make a sandwich!

LuluJakey1 · 04/12/2017 19:18

We had this something similar to this recently. DS (almost 3) loved it. Was allowed to stand next to them and hold a spanner for when it was needed.

noodlesandtomatoes · 04/12/2017 19:21

You are unreasonable! Very!

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/12/2017 19:25

I despair. They’re making your life safer and you’re moaning about the inconvenience of one day online. 🙄

Roussette · 04/12/2017 19:34

What do you expect them to do?

No time would be convenient for you by the sounds of it!

darkcloudlooming · 04/12/2017 19:35

Maybe you all don't mind this but I do.. I've had things to do after school ( whilst my husband is off) which I can't get some any other day now and had to cancel them to be back at 4pm to do this.. they told me it should be back on between 4-8pm but I've been told the engineer probably isn't even on site yet so it is going to be up to 9:30pm now before it will get finished... so your telling me you want ppl in your house at 9:30 at night when you want to get things done and get your kids showered and into bed? Your telling me that isn't inconvenient and is acceptable? I don't think so.. 9:30 at night I now have to wait for them l do this so by time they leave it is 10pm-10:30pm and your saying that isn't inconvenient !

Oh for fucks sake OP get a sodding grip! Such a massive non-issue!

Oldraver · 04/12/2017 19:38

FGS get over it. It's a minor inconvenience

AlannaOfTrebond · 04/12/2017 19:38

Sometimes life happens and it's inconvenient.
Worse things also happen, like gas explosions, or leaks meaning you have no gas for days.....

BelleSauv · 04/12/2017 19:39

Well yeah it's a bit inconvenient and a bit annoying, but not as inconvenient or annoying as your house exploding due to faulty gas lines. Nobody loves having tradespeople in but they are there to do a job and with the amount of houses they have to look after someone's house will be late on. You just have to suck it up and deal with it like a grown up.

darkcloudlooming · 04/12/2017 19:39

@Psychobabble123 might be a non issue to you but I think it's wrong to make ppl wait until 9:30-10pm at night to come in and restore gas supply that late at night! Maybe you don't mind but I do

darkcloudlooming · 04/12/2017 19:40

And what if ppl had to go to work in the evening? They expect ppl to take an unpaid day off for this!

OP posts:
handsfree · 04/12/2017 19:40

ITS ONE DAY. Sure I’d be a bit peed, it’s a pain in the backside. But it’s not like it’s everyday for a week or something.
And if your husband is home then surely getting the kids to bed is really not an issue at all.

blueskyinmarch · 04/12/2017 19:41

Sometimes little inconveniences happen in life. But a little inconvenience in this case is better than old dodgy pipes which might have led to the massive inconvenience of your house blowing up or going on fire!

user1499419331 · 04/12/2017 19:43

If you really can't abide "strange men" walking round during dinner then just ask a friend for a dinner invite and go there for dinner.

Nyx1 · 04/12/2017 19:45

OP when they did this here they gave us a week's warning and asked us to talk to them individually about working in case anyone wouldn't be in.

did they do that for you?

if they didn't, then yes, they should have given you more notice in case everyone was out at work but this is not how you explained yourself in your OP.

ArcheryAnnie · 04/12/2017 19:45

YABU. It's one day, you are hardly being evicted into the street, and gas works need to be done. It really is just one of those things you have to suck up.

Your children will not die from eating their tea in the presence of workmen.

BumWad · 04/12/2017 19:46

YABU

As per the op has started this thread 99% of posters have said YABU but nope the OP is still going on and on and on...

myrtleWilson · 04/12/2017 19:46

it is a hassle OP but seriously get a grip. I'm sure on the 4/12/18 you won't remember the inconvenience. Am fairly certain you and the children would remember if your house blew up...

Amaried · 04/12/2017 19:47
