I don’t even have to go. But I have paid for my ticket. I suspect I was asked after a night shift and my resilience and ability to think sensibly was broken.

I am an antisocial bugger at the best of times. I don’t like loud music and I’m too awkward to dance in public. Which means I’ll drink too much and feel rough the next day.
On the other hand I love my colleagues and if I get the alcohol:awkwardness balance right it could be fabulous.

But.

I am feeling fat and my hair needs a cut. And I am 6 inches taller than all of them. Which makes me feel huge all over.

And I have nothing to wear (that fits). I don’t do dresses or heels. And I’ll be expected to put on something fancy which I’ll feel uncomfortable in, it’ll cost a fortune and I’ll donate it to a chazza shop next week.

Wow is me.

Going against the prevailing view, I say go!

You like your colleagues and you say that it could be fabulous.

Sod the dress and heels policy. Wear, as others have suggested, jeans, a nice top and sparkly ballet pumps. You can get away with it by being lovely and tall. Get your hair done anyway, it will give you a boost.

You can always go home if you get fed up. Go!

Sorry posted too soon. It sounds like they have “ messy” nights out which really wouldn’t be my thing! Nothing has been mentioned about a Christmas do but I wouldn’t go because of the short length of time I’ve been there.

I bought sequins and it looks feckin orrible. So tomorrow I need to go and find something else. And I have PMT and SAD and I’m fat.

Worried about @CarbyDiem now. Did the sequins do 'er in?

liquidrevolution · 06/12/2017 14:08

I wouldn't bother going but then I am an antisocial bugger.

Topseyt · 06/12/2017 14:20

I am antisocial too. I hated office Christmas parties when I was younger, and was so glad when my children were born, giving me the ideal excuse of "no babysitter" to rescue the situation.

I wouldn't go, but then that sort of thing has never really interested me.

I have been to good and bad over the years. This year we are just having a project do, which involves a trip to our local Christmas market (in Europe) for some Glühwein, followed by a meal at a small, French restaurant. There will be max. 12 of us, probably 7 to 10. Ideal.
