If I’m breastfeeding, can my baby be admitted with me to hospital

Advice really.

I’m awaiting SELDOC to call back. I have a severe sore throat and suspect quinsy - I’ve had it before and remember all the pain and symptoms. Last time I had it I was admitted to hospital for a couple of days. But I was child free then.
My AIBU is would WIBU to ask if DD (4months) could be admitted with me. I’ve never seen or heard of this before but I wonder if it’s allowed. I have been ebf. Would it be ridiculous? I am in a current fog of painkillers so may not be thinking logically.
Thanks

I work in hospitals and in my experience it is a case of 'who shouts loudest wins' (as sad as that is, it is true). And, if they are not accommodating then I would really recommend shouting loud. It's important.

Contact PALS immediately if you have any issues.

Slightly different but my baby was admitted into a hospital a few times in his first few months and I was admitted with him. I was never actually a patient so they didn't feed me or anything but they kept me and DS together

Sorry, didn't see your update, thrilled they were accommodating for you :)

Christmas card that's shockingly ignorant. What daftcat said, and in any case, the baby needs a live mother. Untreated quinsy will kill you.

So glad they were accommodating Lloyd and hope you are on the mend and back home soon!

I would not risk the baby developing antibiotic resistance...

Says someone who has no idea how antibiotic resistance works.
Bacteria develops antibiotic resistance. The baby doesn’t have quinsy.

Sadly I am fully aware. Nurses, doctors and long term patients who never are ill or on antibiotics are at risk of colonizing the bacteria. For that reason children under 12 are not even encouraged to visit hospitals in Canada.
The baby could easily be cared for at home while the mom is treated.

They do have to keep a breastfeeding baby under 6 months and the mother together

No, they don't. Often it would be completely irresponsible to do so.

Chaosofcalm · 04/12/2017 13:47

Sayyouwill most hospitals have a policy to feed breast feeding Mums on children’s wards.

I had a similar experience when DC2 was a week old. DC1 aged 2 was rushed to hospital by ambulance. I obviously had no choice but to take the baby along. When we arrived and DC1 was admitted the staff had conniptions when I asked if the baby could stay as well. I was told in no uncertain terms that I had put the baby at risk by bringing him to a hospital full of germs.
DH stayed in hospital with DC1 and I went home.

No advice, but having had quinsy myself----really hope you feel better soon. It is awful!!!

Glad you got sorted OP. Sorry so many ha e you have re wives substandard care. I was recently seriously ill and admitted for surgery and 7 nights of inpatient care. My 5 month old baby came with me, we were given a side room, my husband stayed with me. He held her on me to feed when I was too unwell to hold her. I was given bf friendly meds (morphine and tramadol are bf friendly, btw, as are nearly all antibiotics).

My supply tanked as I was so unwell and not eating/drinking at all, but it was back to normal within a week of being home.
