Really upset over ruined surprise

More a what would you do?

DH's birthday is soon after Christmas so I ordered a coffee machine in the black Friday deals for his birthday present. We don't spend a lot on each other at Christmas but I spent £200 On this machine which is a lot of money for us.

Ordered from Amazon and at checkout ticked this is a gift and specified Amazon packaging without product details, in case he was the one to take the delivery.

It came today while I was at work so DH took it and it has come in the branded box with a massive picture of the machine on it.

I'm absolutely gutted. Have rung Amazon and they have extended my prime membership by a month as a sorry but that doesn't really make it any better!

Hey OP I've not missed that you said you were suffering from depression, I think that can make lots of things seem worse than they are. YANBU to be upset. I don't think there's much you can do about it. try not to dwell, hopefully DH is happy anyway, and take some comfort from knowing that by the time his birthday gets here this will be a minor annoyance rather than something that's so upsetting. I know what it's like to natter (to yourself) about this type of thing

Husky, that is ridiculous! If definitely expect a refund for that!

Backforgood, I didn't ask if I was unreasonable to be upset... I asked what I should do. And I'm glad I did post as it helped me calm down about the situation and sort of solve the problem.

They sent another one for free, but I'm still astounded that the first one came as it did!

IMO everything should be packaged in plain boxes at this time of year - it's common sense!

Quick update. DH CHUFFED with his early birthday present and the refund is in my Amazon account. All's well that ends well 😊

Haha Jennie, I have a mountain of the stuff that was totally not needed and OTT packaging but when I ASK for it they decide not to bother!
