To think advent calendars waste too much plastic

I would have made one out of something reusable, but we've had some as gifts. The plastic seems pretty damn thick and the stuff can be hard to get out.

Rugger? Who says that in the 21st century.
Have you been reading Tom Brown's School Days again Grin

"How does the daily lucky winner (s) receive their tasteful, seasonally appropriate, environmentally friendly, non tacky, joyous gift?"

they don't, they get joy from the fact it's donated to one of the local urchins, and feel thankful for their station, while recognising that it's entirely the outcome of hard work and good role models.

We have a cardboard one with just windows. No plastic.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/12/2017 18:48

John Lewis usually sell the traditional cardboard ones.

My advent calendar is plastic, by the way, but behind every door is a miniature pavlova.

Wonderful Smile

I have a Danish biscuit advent calendar. You fill it with batter and then bake it in the Aga.

It's a family heirloom, we have passed it down through fifteen generations.

Good answer Grin Of course.

My other advent calendar looks is 14th Century salt cupboard. Whoever draws the short fish fork out of my 37 dc (all of whom are top in their fields and who all still live at home but have their own house simultaneously) gets to open the flap and draw a portion of salt.

Yum!

pisacake · 02/12/2017 19:06

only 37? my commiserations.

GeekyBlinders · 02/12/2017 19:08

DP and I have a card one, and DS has an advent truck made out of wood with little drawers that we put sweets or the occasional toy in. No plasticky waste here.

LalaLeona · 02/12/2017 19:53

Bravo! glad to see someone pulling crumbs up on her blatant fantasies!

yawning801 · 02/12/2017 19:56

I have got into the habit of reusing them as chocolate moulds, which helps a bit.

Itsgonnabeacoldone · 02/12/2017 20:18

I wish the Danish argus busicuit advent calendar was real Sad

We actually a great argus for Christmas one year. In the Aga.

Tastes a lot like pheasant.

Todays offering from tiny was the best so far...
