Just over two weeks ago we get an email from school about worms going round.

That day I went to the chemist the whole family had medication house bleached sheets on a hot wash etc etc

Yesterday we get the worms letter again.

On the parents text group the letter is repeated and a mother of a child in mines class casually says "oh ... Has been complaining of an itchy bum for two weeks didn't think it was worms"

What??? So you just ignored the email the letter the whatsapp group and your child scratching his arse and complaining about it?

So today I do the bleaching and medication today. The arse scratchers mum messages the group to say she'll try to get a Gp appointment tomorrow!!!

So wibu to keep my daughter off school because of disgusting parents who are too lazy to sort out worms??

Another Pripsen victim. Still can't look at that shade of pink without feeling nauseous. Ew.

WipsGlitter · 01/12/2017 07:07

I agree just post - no need for that go just get ovex from the chemist - on the WhatsApp group.

gamerchick · 01/12/2017 09:11

We have a very herbal family at our school who won't de-louse their kids' hair as it's "cruel" to the lice

Surely that’s neglect though? Instead of excluding them why doesn’t someone with clout help those kids? Confused

Allthewaves · 01/12/2017 09:17

I don't think worms are a huge deal tbh. You check, poss have look at poo and treat if you see them. We just washed bedding. Had few times as a kids. Got.my fist nits as an adult - wayyyyy grosser

Iprefercoffeetotea · 01/12/2017 09:20

I had them once but I don't remember drinking anything that made my bowels explode :)

I don't think they're a huge deal and definitely not worth keeping kids off school over.

Iprefercoffeetotea · 01/12/2017 09:22

I agree nits are way grosser, I didn't get them as a kid because my mum was really disciplined about checking my hair and washing it with Suleo (I was terrified of that stuff, it really hurt if it went in your eyes) but my son got them at primary school and I didn't realise until I'd got them too, thought my head was itching quite a lot (it itches a lot anyway so it took me a while to realise it was worse than normal) and then ugh! I have a bit of a phobia about them now!

steppemum · 01/12/2017 09:23

I have 3 dc and have never treated any of them for worms.

Of course it is possible they have had them, but not to my knowledge.

I don't remember ever having them as a child (although mum may have dosed us unawares)

Cannot see why you would treat whole family and bleach everything in sight on the basis of a warning letter.

Come to think of it, we have never had a worm letter from school.
Nits yes, I keep nit stuff in the cupboard and have to use it with monotonous regularity.

queenofthesheds · 01/12/2017 09:25

I want to hear more about Herbal Family, @gamerchick!

ILoveDolly · 01/12/2017 09:29

Only one of my three children regularly gets worms (she sucks her fingers) and when she does, it is so itchy she can't sleep so I'm surprised and a little sad for that child who has had them two weeks!
We treat the whole family with ovex if one has had worms.
Also a great opportunity to remind children that this is why we don't scratch our bum hole/lick our hands and why we do wash hands regularly! If their hygiene is ok they may not pick up the worms anyway.

saladdays66 · 01/12/2017 09:42

All she needs to do is get Ovex over the counter. Lazy cow. And you don;t need to treat your dc unless they have symptoms!!

dawnc27 · 01/12/2017 09:55

quite likely wont she have to pay either if you have the minor ailments scheme in your area

tinysparklyshoes · 01/12/2017 10:02

It costs a couple of quid and you can get tablets if you don't like the liquid.

But yabu to keep your kid off school.

sirfredfredgeorge · 01/12/2017 10:04

(unless it can pass naturally without you ever realising you had it?)

Yes, they can be completely symptomless, even if you have them forever, and as Ragusa says, because humans have lived with these things for a very, very long time, it's possible that they do have health benefits. Of course if there are symptoms, deal with it, but I can't see any reason to start taking drugs on the off chance of threadworms

IceFall · 01/12/2017 10:19

Sorry but I'm actually wtf at worms being the new nits. I never had them as a child is this the norm now.

I remember getting worms once. Pretty sure they aren't a new 'thing'. Naice private school at that...

CautionTape · 01/12/2017 10:29

Prispen was the work of the devil.

I remember my mum writing WP ( worming powders) in the calendar for the second dose and I convinced her she meant Woman's PeriodGrin

x2boys · 01/12/2017 11:06

Worms are horrible ds2 had them at nursery had to treat us all with ovex we have never had nits(touch wood)

astoundedgoat · 01/12/2017 11:26

The arse scratchers mum messages the group to say she'll try to get a Gp appointment tomorrow!!!

Did you not reply "You don't need to - they'll give you Ovex at the pharmacy for the whole family, and then just do a big wash and you're fine - we just did this last week (and two weeks ago) and we're clear."

It would be v annoying, but you can't keep your child off school because of it.

Personally I found the nits to be worse. At least you just take Ovex and you're done. The bloody combing (both children have vvvv long hair) is a pain.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 01/12/2017 11:50

It is just one of those things. You could be lucky and never experience the joys of nits or worms in your household... or impetigo, ring worm, warts, conjunctivitis or any other highly contagious condition.

I don’t think it makes anyone better or worse not to have caught one thing but not another. Catching things is almost inevitable in some cases once there’s a case in a class but how it is treated is key.

Responsible parents do their best to prevent, check where possible and often, treat asap and notify school where appropriate.

If everyone did that it would be easier to avoid a case or two becoming a massive problem for lots of people and avoid high reinfection rates.

tinysparklyshoes · 01/12/2017 14:02

Sorry but I'm actually wtf at worms being the new nits. I never had them as a child is this the norm now

load of bollocks. Around 40% of under 10's likely have worms at any one time, and your children could have them right now without you having a clue. As so could you!

nickEcave · 01/12/2017 14:07

The mother is probably going to the GP to try and get a prescription for the worming medication. It costs around £10 from the chemists (to treat a family of 4)

wtffgs · 01/12/2017 16:03

It beggars belief how hysterical people get.

Mine have had 'itchy bum at night' a few times. I have never had any intention of tormenting them with torches or sticky tape (wtaf Shock) I've bought Ovex and that's done the trick plus hot wash the bedding. Once or twice I put DD in the bath to wash off the sticky stuff that they leave round the anus as she was still itchy.

we've been free for well over a year now.

I don't remember having either as a kid and my DM was a clean freak so I'm sure it would've been discussed.

Ovex is ££ though. I wouldn't hesitate to get it again, all the same.

tinysparklyshoes · 01/12/2017 16:07

You don't need torches or sticky tape, you just need to look up their bum!

tinysparklyshoes · 01/12/2017 16:07

Oh and vermox only costs a couple of quid for 6 tablets.

BeyondAssignation · 01/12/2017 16:07

I feel for you, I am bloody sick or reinfection after reinfection.
And my DS1 screams in pain when he has them (he is likely asd) :(

I'm thinking of homeschooling...

Kursk · 01/12/2017 16:09

We asked the pharmacist and they said it won't hurt to take it!

Yes the guy selling you medication isn’t going to talk you out of giving him money
