"Start Panic Buying Bread!" How bloody irresponsible is this headline

I won't link to it as it's the shitty daily fail. But they are leading with this headline about a tiny amount of snow. I don't care if it is meant to be sarcastic or funny. It's just irresponsible as there will be lots of stupid people who will see it and do exactly that. What on earth were they thinking?

How the heck do they cope in Scandinavia?

IMAGINE the bread stock piles.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 30/11/2017 15:29

When we had storm Ophelia here in Ireland people bought loads and loads of beer. We have priorities. Grin

I always have a couple of loaves of bread in the freezer, it means I can shop less frequently.

iseenodust · 30/11/2017 15:32

I bought a loaf of bread today. It probably qualifies as a naice loaf as the assistant and I discussed whether it was a pave or pave, pronounced pavee (can't find acute accent). Wonders if Queen will make such a lowlife magically disappear.

Ecureuil · 30/11/2017 15:34

When I was snowed in once all we had in the house was pasta, sauce and a bottle of vodka. We had a good 24 hours Grin

MyKidAreTakingMySanity · 30/11/2017 15:34

In our village they do panic buy the bread when it snows and it's fucking infuriating. IF and that's a big bloody if, the road ever gets shut it's only for a couple of hours and then they Warburtons lorry is back up as usual the next day anyway. Never in the 15 years I've been here have we run out of bread except due to panic buying. And to add insult to injury, it just gets binned later. (MIL does a it)
This is 2017, almost 2018 and we should be done with that silliness.

thenightsky · 30/11/2017 15:35

I 'panic' bought a litre of vodka a few days ago. If its good enough for the Siberians...

TheFirstMrsDV · 30/11/2017 15:40

People stockpile bread out of habit.
It was a staple food for centuries. Bread and tea/beer at every meal.
Bread was the meal.
Then it turned into an accompaniment.
My DM would NEVER have sliced bread and a teapot on the table because it was the height of common for her.

So there must be something deep down in the British psyche that is released when we panic.

Lovemusic33 · 30/11/2017 15:41

I just bought a stale French stick, does that count?

When do we ever get enough snow to be snowed in? And when we do it rarely lasts more than a day, I’m sure most people ca survive a day without bread?

tinysparklyshoes · 30/11/2017 15:43

noone is going to panic buy bread because the daily heil told them to.

paxillin · 30/11/2017 15:45

It was a joke about a FB meme! Bloody hell, this was understood by Daily Wail readers, so not a very well hidden joke.

RebeccaBunch · 30/11/2017 15:47

they are probably panic buying quinoa and coconut milk round my way.

RebeccaBunch · 30/11/2017 15:48

Ecureuil · 30/11/2017 15:48

"Start Panic Buying Bread!" How bloody irresponsible is this headline
sparechange · 30/11/2017 15:52

errr, that isn't the headline or the intention!

It says ''Start-Panic-Buying-Bread' Twitter users make fun of 'snowflake' Londoners' panic at light dusting of snow which does not stick while heavy blizzards close schools and force cars off roads in rest of UK"

So they are mocking the very idea that anyone would panic buy bread at the first sight of bad weather, not advocating that anyone would do it!

What on earth were YOU thinking?!

We have only two supermarkets in our small town and it's infuriating when you see people with trolleys containing piles of loaves because of a bit of snow. What are they going to do with it all, unless they have giant freezers to store it in?

Last time when it snowed the bread aisle was all but empty in both supermarkets. In the end I went down the baking aisle and got a couple of bags of strong white flour and some yeast and took it home and chucked some in my bread maker.

PoppyFleur · 01/12/2017 07:17

The last time we had heavy snow in the south east (2010) I realised we had just under half a bottle of Irish cream in the house. Half a bottle!!! Those were scary days, I refuse to be that ill prepared again.

chibsortig · 01/12/2017 07:32

I am convinced that when it snows people sit at home eating sandwiches and drinking huge vats of milk, its bonkers here. People start making facebook aware when they local shop gets its bread and milk delivery so you can go stock up on 16 loafs and 84 pints of milk. We are in a semi rural area but we arent back of beyond i mean theres an aldi a 15 minute walk from my home and a co-op. Now the council are used to it snowing again we dont get snowed in and blocked off from civilisation anymore Wink

MynewnameisKy · 01/12/2017 08:05

Why can't they just eat cake?

Noofly · 01/12/2017 08:11

Defrosted bread just doesn’t taste the same.

StealthPolarBear · 01/12/2017 08:15

I definitely need to panic buy some chocolate and some red wine.
