Dp wants to take ds age 3 to the touring coco cola truck next week. It's a 30 min drive.to nearest city and it's oh so very chilly these recent days. Am I being a miserable old bag in not wanting to go! In my mind I don't think there will be much to do? Just get afew photos and then What?? Has anybody been before? Would a 3 year old enjoy it?

A coke truck? Never heard of thisConfused

BarbaraOcumbungles · 29/11/2017 22:51

It’s a lorry. Anyone that goes to see a lorry in celebration of Christmas is an idiot.

LouPeru · 29/11/2017 22:51

I think it's a pile of shit and can't understand the fascination with it - same with John bastard Lewis adverts.

Allabitmuchisntit · 29/11/2017 22:52

It's completely and utterly shit. Do you like queing for photos and cold sugary drinks - in the cold? No? Then don't bother.

Goes without saying that traffic and parking is also a nightmare. You're really not missing anything.

LaughingLlama · 29/11/2017 22:52

Im another one that just does not get this craze. Wtf has a coca cola lorry got to do with Christmas? When did this start? I dont recall it from my childhood in the 70s and 80s.
I cant be arsed to fight through crowds and stand in the cold to look at a vajazzled lorry nor will i be upset if i miss out on a freebie mini can of coke!
Im with you op. Let dh and dc go and either have a day at hone chilling or doing xmas prep or go with them but abandon them there and take yourself off for some retail therapy.

onlyonaTuesday · 29/11/2017 22:54

Not a bit shit.
Utter shit!

TrinitySquirrel · 29/11/2017 22:56

They'd have more success just driving it around normal roads. It will be banned soon from a lot of cities with obesity problems.

Coca cola has always had fuck all to do with Christmas beyond some dodgy advertising.

ArnoldBee · 29/11/2017 22:57

I'm guessing all.the hype is due to Coca Cola being responsible for the colours that Santa/Father Christmas now wears as before their advertising campaign it was green and white. I can only imagine that the truck is their way of connecting Coca Cola with Christmas again but to be honest it doesn't look that fun. Maybe when your DC is a bit older and it's not so Baltic out there?

Hisnamesblaine · 29/11/2017 22:59

Yep. I shall show dp this thread. Maybe if it was just down the road I would go for a nosey. But taking ds over after a full day at nursery to stand in line for a photo is just bonkers to me!!!! Thanks for all your feedback guys

PickAChew · 29/11/2017 22:59

I couldn't be arsed with it.

i more appreciated the free 150ml cans of coke zero they constantly handed out, through the summer. (No obesity problems there) as they were idy cold and more than welcome after a morning pokehunting with the boys.

TheHolidayArmadillo · 29/11/2017 22:59

It’s 100% shit. Queue up to stand in front of a lorry with fairy lights for a selfie opportunity. My SIL wants to go but thankfully no one wants to go with her.

There won’t be any amusements, you’re better going to a Christmas market.

RJnomore1 · 29/11/2017 23:00

It was very near us a couple of years ago so we popped along.

I dunno , I think I thought you went IN the lorry and something happened, or it unfolded somehow into something.

Nope. Lorry. Clue in name

and to add insult to injury they OPEN YOUR FREE MINI CAN so you have to drink it there and then,

Still, wholecthing tool is about fifteen minutes from home then we went to the cinema.

eddiemairswife · 29/11/2017 23:02

Coca cola is American junk anyway. How about we have a British pickled onion truck instead?

Sillybilly1234 · 29/11/2017 23:02

Rubbish. Queue for a tiny can of coke and another queue to get a picture taken next to it. We went a couple of years ago and kids asked if we could leave after a few minutes. Didn't even try to queue. Had a lovely unexpected meal out and ordered lemonade to be rebels, the kids said.

SylviaTietjens · 29/11/2017 23:02

Is it just a lorry?!! I’ve seen people posting photos of their kids in front of it on FB. I’d always assumed it had a grotto in it where you visited Santa. I can’t believe it’s just a lorry! Why the heck would you go and see it?

Total waste of time. You will queue for ages for a picture in front of a truck (that I think you take yourself), maybe a free can of coke. What is Christmassy about that?

We got in the queue, the boy at the entry to the crash barrier queue system told us it would be at least 40 minutes. I asked 'for what?' he replied 'to have your pic taken with the truck'. We left.

We dont even drink Coke. DH started his career with Pepsi. Mind you we dont drink that either!

blackheartsgirl · 29/11/2017 23:06

Yep it’s shit, it’s just a truck with some lights on it and you get a free mini coke. Not worth the hype or hassle. There was nothing else going on around it either, just a few shut roads

MammaTJ · 29/11/2017 23:16

Honestly? Oh yes, you are asking in AIBU! Of course that's what you want!

You teeny tot will not give a flying fuck about it. It is your 'adult' DP that is bothered. How about just letting him crack on and then seeing how many pics are actually of your child with the truck compared to how many of him 'with the child' and the truck!

Oh2beatsea · 29/11/2017 23:23

A total letdown. Looks far better on the tv than in real life. Imagine a red Eddie Stobart lorry and you’ve got it!

Littlefrogletx · 30/11/2017 00:03

Utter utter shite. You don't have to even queue.
You can just go stand round the back of it and get a picture.

elQuintoConyo · 30/11/2017 08:00

Y'see now, i'd queue 40 minutes in the cold for a photo op with an Eddie Stobart lorry! Or a Norbert - they're already in Christmas colours Grin

LunasSpectreSpecs · 30/11/2017 08:03

It is the epitome of consumerism. It's all about selling you Coca Cola and adding a few lights to a truck to make it more Christmassy. I wouldn't travel 30 seconds to see a lorry, never mind 30 minutes.

MoistCantaloupe · 30/11/2017 08:08

Have to agree it’s just a lorry. We saw it when out once, but wouldn’t queue for it!

For those asking, the advert started mid 90s (I remember getting excited about it as a kid, sad). But looks like the tours been running only seven years. Yep, I did just look that up.

almondfinger · 30/11/2017 11:43

What did I spy pulling into the car park of the shopping centre this morning, only the flipping lorry.

I took some pics as it drove past me to get to it spot. Job done.
