To report this....

An acquaintance of mine (wouldn’t say friend, more a friend of a friend) is absolutely obsessed with snapchat. Ok, fine, each to their own.

BUT she constantly snaps and drives, like ALL the time. She saves the snaps and uploads them to her Instagram account. The latest was her driving along (Not at a slow speed) and looking into the camera with a silly snapchat filter on. She then writes a message on the screen and uploads it, ALL WHILE DRIVING. Or she will film the road while she’s driving and the song is playing in the background (?!)

I spoke to her about it before Blush she views me as the bore, I think.
I said I was worried she might have an accident, she just laughed it off.

I know I could just delete her and never see them again BUT she really really could cause an accident and hurt someone/herself. She has her eyes off the road for long spells of time just to keep us “entertained” she’s not funny anyway.
Oh, and she’s only just got her license back for a drink driving ban.

Sooooo... my AIBU is WIBU to report her for it? Who to? Or IABU and I should just ignore it

(I just looked at her latest snapchat story and there are five snaps of her while she’s driving) Hmm

Send her this (warning: it's a very disturbing watch)

It's a little dated now in terms of the technology, but it really makes its point.

LilyDisney · 29/11/2017 13:55

What a horribly dangerous thing to do. Definitely report.

Not sure if it's the same everywhere, but our local police force have quite an active Facebook and twitter presence.

I've FB messaged them twice now for little things I've spotted (e.g. dumped electrical items in an alleyway that could have been stolen etc) that I didn't want to take up their phone time with.

They've always seemed grateful and followed up my message and let me know the outcome.

Could be a good route as then in the message you can post the links to the snapchat.

GabsAlot · 29/11/2017 14:00

shs already been banned so clearly doesnt giv a shit

report her now before its too late

TheHolidayArmadillo · 29/11/2017 14:06

Fuck that video is awful.

Report her. Before she kills herself or someone else.

Situations like this aren't what 101 is made for. Driving violations have to be witnessed by an officer or camera. It's not like you can phone the police and say jon smith is always speeding can you?

Give them a call but don't expect anything. I would also pull away from trying to police other people

Animation86 · 29/11/2017 14:17

You can save her snapchat clips using iOS11 screen record function as well, if you have an iPhone

TheHolidayArmadillo · 29/11/2017 14:22

You say that bubblebubblepop but there was a guy who posted a video of himself driving like a complete bellend through a town on Youtube and he had his car seized.

Bubblebubblepop · 29/11/2017 14:27

Yeah ok. I'm not saying it's not possible but maybe your chances aren't as strong if it hasn't made the pages of the daily mirror

DistanceCall · 29/11/2017 14:28

I would also pull away from trying to police other people

There's a difference between "policing" other people and reporting reckless, potentially murderous, behaviour.

Bubblebubblepop · 29/11/2017 14:30

Is exactly the same thing.

chocolateworshipper · 29/11/2017 14:31

Imagine how you would feel if you found out tomorrow that she's killed a child whilst driving and uploading something to Instagram.

Now you know what you must do.

Ellie56 · 29/11/2017 14:45

Yes definitely report the stupid woman.

morningconstitutional2017 · 29/11/2017 14:45

Your friend is obviously being silly and YANBU to report her in whichever way you feel appropriate. She may have got away with it so far but there may well come the awful day when she makes a terrible mistake. If she only wraps herself round a lamp post that's bad enough, but to take innocent folks with her is inexcusable. I really can't understand why some people behave like this.

DistanceCall · 29/11/2017 14:48

Bubblebubblepop Then I'm interested in knowing exactly why you think that people should refrain from reporting people who are behaving in ways that can easily kill other people.

Bubblebubblepop · 29/11/2017 14:51

I don't think they should refrain. I said this isn't the way people are caught and punished for using a mobile at the wheel

Bubblebubblepop · 29/11/2017 14:52

Would also
Be interested to know what you think the police will do following that call?

DistanceCall · 29/11/2017 15:08

Bubblebubblepop, I am quoting what you said: I would also pull away from trying to police other people.

You also said that policing other people and reporting dangerous behaviour are "exactly the same thing".

Hence, you are saying that people should refrain from reporting dangerous behaviour. That's nuts, frankly.

Bubblebubblepop · 29/11/2017 15:13

She can do what she likes. The trouble is, it's unlikely to do anything but make her feel better. Therefore the whole process of policing other people is a waste of effort. Think it's as nuts as you like.

I think it's nuts that you think the police will do anything

DistanceCall · 29/11/2017 15:15

Tremendous effort, calling the police, yes.

And yes, I think it's nuts.

Spangles1963 · 29/11/2017 15:52

YANBU. You should definitely report her. People who use their mobile phones whilst driving are one of my pet hates. They are just ignorant, selfish twats with no consideration for what tragedies they might cause through their selfishness.

Mittens1969 · 29/11/2017 16:23

You don't seem bothered about the risk caused to other road users, bubblebubble. As this person is on the police's radar for having been banned for drink driving means that they will take it seriously. There is video evidence after all.

Just what is 101 for if not for reporting crimes? It's no wonder very few people are caught misusing their mobiles when driving. Hmm

chocolateworshipper · 29/11/2017 16:30

By the way - you can report a crime online report.police.uk

Bubblebubblepop · 29/11/2017 16:38

Mittens what do you think happens when you report This to the police?
