Have you ever had a ''brain orgasm'' (ASMR)?

I never knew there was a name for this till today but I was reading on another forum that specific things can trigger you into a state that can be described as ''a really strong tingling sensation along your scalp and a huge sense of euphora/happiness + numbness of your body'' . Mine were (and I'm not joking or trolling) : one of my childhood friends telling me which stamps out of my collection he had or not, my dog licking himself and more recently, haircuts.

I don't know why it's called ''orgasm'' because it's more like a drug induced, relaxing mood. I had no idea this was a thing and it had a name. There's tons of videos on YT with all sorts of ''triggers''.

But I would think that this is very common. A certain touch by someone, sounds, sights etc..or a combination of these can be very relaxing, almost to the point of trance and falling asleep. Doesn't everybody experience these?

I get it from the sounds someone makes who is trying hard to be quiet, like they don’t want to wake the baby, or they try to slip into a meeting late or something.

I even get it sometimes from otherwise quite annoying sounds, like someone sniffing quietly.

It's specifically the tingling that a lot of people don't experience.

I get it every week when we go to a certain cafe and the waitress clears the table.

Bliss!

Amongst others, I get it from watching people cleaning or rubbing and scratching stuff. When someone tries to remove paint or something sticky with their nails. Sends me to heaven! Do they know how amazing what they are doing is?

I get it often around my DD2. Like once when she was little she was brushing a pair of fluffy slippers with a hairbrush aaaah I can feel my scalp tingling right now.

I listened to a Radio 4 programme about this and someone said they got ASMR from watching Bruno Mars dancing in the Uptown Funk video. Sure enough, it gave me ASMR.

I get this in my tongue at random non sexual times like when the dog, once in a blue moon, manages to lick my face!

Tapping, lip smacking, silly whispering, hair brushing noises doesn't do it for me and there are so many of these videos on YouTube. But I've definitely experienced this sensation. I'm pretty sure I have had this effect on a few students over the years, their eyes tend to glaze over and I know they're not really listening. I must be awesome.Grin

I'm so glad to discover that this is a thing. For me it's the hold music that British Gas uses, it makes me so happy and relaxed. I'm going to look up AMSR now.

I get it from white noise, and particularly when there is a temperature differential, e.g.. warm on my front and cold on my back, such as in the shower or when using the hairdryer. Lovely feeling, like electric shivers and waves across the skin and up and down the spine into the skull.

Is this Stendhal Syndrome?

Ahhh! I’m so happy to find out this is a thing! I had it as a child whenever I was examined or spoken to softly: GP, dentist, optician. Had it as an adult during acupuncture sessions - I’ve always wondered how to describe it!

Actually ridiculously excited 😂

What. The fuck??? Shock

Report
hooochycoo · 28/11/2017 21:40

It's not stendahl syndrome.

As it's a wee bit like coming up on E, but without the hard edge. No nausea or disgust I've tract involved. Just the floaty tinglyness.

I find too it's a bit like soap bubbles. That somehow if you touch it, it pops. So if you pay the feeling too much attention or try to amplify it, it pops.

Digestive tract

(not disgust I've tract )

I can start it off by touching very softly he small of my back or sides of my waist

BulletFox · 28/11/2017 21:49

'hooochy really?

I think I understand the OP, I have a physical tingly thing sometimes. It's not orgasm but it is 'wow'. It's just a prickly nice sensation.

Definitely. I have always got it from non-sexual touch - doctors, dentist, hairdressers, Nitty Nora at school! I seem to have lost the ability in recent years though. It's different from the 'forced shiver' that I've only discovered in recent years. It feels like sending an electric shock through your body, starting in your head. I had no idea if anyone else did this. I'm so pleased they do!

I've always had it, since I was a small child. I always get it when someone is doing something methodically and thoroughly. Yes to checking out library books (the old fashioned way though!) Watching the cleaner at work. (I could watch him wipe down the desks all day long!) Also my colleague folding a large crinkly piece of paper made me go all shivery in a lovely way! (Glad I'm not the only weirdo now, I used to think it was just me, and I never mentioned it to anyone)

I just hopefully watched an ASMR Darling video.

Nope, nothing nice. A slightly unpleasant feeling in my stomach and a rather uncomfortable after feeling.

I'm missing out on something, this is totally outside my experience.

This must be like the feeling I get at the opticians, no idea why, always found it soothing.
