I'm knackered. All the time. If you have plenty of energy please tell me what you're eating/drinking/sleeping/doing!

I shouldn't feel like this in my 30s should I?

Any suggestions for what I can do to improve things?

Ask for your bloods checking, I had this and turned out I had anemia that needed a stronger sort of iron.

NCforthis12345 · 28/11/2017 13:15

Eating better does give me energy.

However I am struggling mentally being a mum of two atm and I am not properly looking after my health so I am lacking energy.

But I motivate myself by wanting a tidy home to come home to.

Looking at other mums tidy homes on instagram.

Having friends visiting or playdates at mine.

Wanting to have a day full of activities with my DC and knowing this will be better if the home is tidy to begin with.

And living in a standard sized two bed flat - could not tidy an entire house atm!

Definitely going to read through this thread though for more sensible advice!

Exercise and no (or very little) alcohol. Eating well helps too, although I find that goes hand in hand with exercise. If I let that slip (when on holiday for example), I end up an exhausted mess.

PookieSnackenberger · 28/11/2017 13:24

Lists
Prioritising
Compartmentalising projects and blocking time to deal with them
Fresh food - not always great at this so;
1000mg Vit C per day
Sleep - as much as possible
Cutting out negative or draining people

Sarahh2014 · 28/11/2017 13:25

Eat less.when I eat too much I have no energy

KalaLaka · 28/11/2017 17:43

Cut caffeine and refined sugar (but it's so sad, I know)

BeeFarseer · 28/11/2017 18:02

Nothing dissimilar to what others have said.

  • Vitamins.

I take vitamins religiously, having had lots of anaemias and deficiencies in the past, which made me feel dreadful. A Centrum multivit, an oral vitamin d spray and a magnesium spray that goes on skin are what I recommend to other people, as I really notice a drop in energy levels if I miss doses.

  • Fasting until lunchtime around 1pm-ish.

I have a coffee with almond milk at breakfast (low carb and very low calorie) and no food until lunch. It really does keep me clear-headed.

  • Low-carbing in general

Failing drastically at this at the moment, but I definitely feel my best when I low-carb. Sleep is better quality, no energy swings and dips, higher energy levels overall...

redexpat · 28/11/2017 18:02

I find a mid morning smoothie just keeps me perkier for longer.
Regular exercise.
Going to bed at a reasonable hour. Am rubbish at the last one.

I think the real answer to your question OP is 'staff'. Or failing that (and good staff are hard to come by these days Grin) DH and other family members willing to do their share, hence giving you a proper night's sleep.

Sorry not to be more helpful.

boomboom78 · 28/11/2017 18:19

Following with interest but astounded how others manage to get to bed at 9pm.

Fannyfanakerpants · 28/11/2017 18:29

I'm currently pregnant and surviving on toast so this doesn't apply at the moment but diet makes a huge difference.
No grains, limited dairy and refined sugar only as a treat. It sounds boring but makes such a difference. (look up paleo meals)
And accepting that you are not superhuman, can not and should not do everything. You are allowed to say no. You are allowed to not cope at times and ask for help.

FucksakeCuntingFuckingTwats · 28/11/2017 18:29

MiracleCure I'd definitely schedule in a spare hour to do that each day then if it now means as a result your evening is less stressful.

If I watch TV I make sure not to fast forward through the ad breaks but to get up and do something.

So I've been aimlessly watching TV for the last hour but in the 4 ad breaks I have -

  • Made packed lunches for tomorrow
  • Put the milk bottles out for the milk man
  • Chucked some chicken into a marinade for dinner tomorrow
  • Given the dogs their flea treatment
  • Updated my calendar with info from the school website/set reminders in my phone and signed any forms for school that needed signing.
  • Checked how much wrapping paper we have left over from Christmas last year.

In the next ad break I will unfurl a sheet of pasty, spread it with Nutella, roll it back up, chop it into 24, chuck it in a muffin tray bung it in the oven and boom that's the bake sale sorted for tomorrow.

I think short, fast bursts are the only way I get anything done.

Ababy · 28/11/2017 19:12

Try taking Vitamin D daily. I was feeling very tired most of the time and a Doctor recommended Vit D and it made a huge difference. (I am a mum of seven and do get a lot done :}But saying that do have a chat with your GP before you go on any vitamins or supplements as things can vary from person to person.

SunnyCoco · 28/11/2017 19:28

I spent two years genuinely feeling bone tired no matter what I did - I was sleeping 8 hours, eating properly, getting fresh Air etc and my toddler is a great sleeper.
No matter how much I slept I woke up feeling tired to my core and stayed that way all day.

Turns out I have severely under active thyroid which I am now on medication for. And also Anemia / low iron.

So if you genuinely try all these tips and still feel no difference I would get some blood tests done

Best of luck and hope you find something that works

I exercise 4/5 times a week, usually as soon as I get up. Find it clears my head and gets me ready for the day. Then making dinner at breakfast time, chucking it in the slow cooker or whatever, quick iron if I have the time and sneak any other jobs into nap time. I'm a SAHM though (freelancing in the evenings) so appreciate that this may make life easier in many ways!

dangerrabbit · 28/11/2017 22:46

Joking... kinda

To ask what your biggest energy boosters are?! Some mums get so much shit done!
Summerlovin24 · 28/11/2017 23:08

Prioritise exercise above housework. The housework wont go away...EVER
When your family all sit and relax watching a show don't run about like a mad thing. You need a rest too. It has changed my life by accepting you simply cannot get everything done. So sit and chat to the kids. Get a cleaner if u can affford it ( i cant sadly) and when u feel like a rest have one. The men certainly do

Helen010510 · 29/11/2017 09:18

Hi we took my daughter out of school to go on holiday we had a 60£ fine that I paid on time but now they have sent me a letter saying they r takin my husband to court for non payment as they r sayin it's 60£ per parent . Is this right didn't say that in letter .

Kit2015 · 29/11/2017 09:19

I find that if I sit down that's it. I become unmotivated and lazy. I need to know what I'm doing next. Both at home and in work.

QueenOfAllISurvey · 29/11/2017 09:20

Running. When I don't I feel SO sluggish. The difference is extremely noticeable.

Sitting on my bum with DH after the kids go to bed instead of housework.

Sleeping 10.30-6.30 pretty much every night.

TigerTown · 29/11/2017 09:44

Would love to know how many of you aren’t SAHM to kids underneath two, who don’t sleep.... so many of the recommendations on here just seem totally unrealistic for me :(

TigerTown · 29/11/2017 09:46

And please no one suggest wake an hour before my kid. 5am starts are early enough.
