I'm knackered. All the time. If you have plenty of energy please tell me what you're eating/drinking/sleeping/doing!

I shouldn't feel like this in my 30s should I?

Any suggestions for what I can do to improve things?

Thanks for this thread these are great posts. This is a huge issue for me as I've got to take a high dose of prozac for life and, whilst it keeps me well, it also zonks me out! When I have energy to get through the day it's always when I've eaten 3 decent meals with plenty of protein at lunch. That's the biggy for me. I'm working on adding on exercise and early nights, but regular, balanced meals is the biggest factor for me having an energy-balanced day.

TheRealPrincessMeghan · 27/11/2017 21:33

Am horribly tired too despite vitamins and sufficient sleep used to being woken 2-3 times every night by small people i do not exercise though so may its that? also stress i am quite stressed maybe thats tiring.

MoistCantaloupe · 27/11/2017 21:37

No gluten
No dairy
Work out x4 times a week (including strength training)
Drink loads of water
Drink loads of lemon tea
Sleep early
Drink only at the weekend
Iron vitamin
No caffeine
Low sugar
Good fats
Yoga/Meditation

I totally do not do this at all, but I imagine if I did I'd feel great Grin

roomsonfire · 27/11/2017 21:38

Tracking my sleep and a food diary.

I find certain meals before dinner causes me to sleep a lot more restlessly and others help me sleep better. I now know what meals to avoid for dinner and have for lunch instead.

Vit C tablets in the morning, Vit D/fish oil combo capsules too. Oh and try and sit outside with your coffee in the morning if the suns up. Yes its freezing now but sitting with the sun for a bit helps me too.

TheRealPrincessMeghan - the amount of exercise I do seems to dictate my energy levels- and reduces stress. I aim for 2 gym classes a week and 2 runs/swimming sessions - it’s made a huge difference although really difficult to start with as I felt worse not better. Now I really notice if I miss any exercise.

whyismykid · 27/11/2017 21:43

Eating proper meals regularly (Not just feeding the kids and forgetting myself!)
Caffeine
Fresh air
Choosing to walk over the car - even when the weather is grim! I do 15,000 - 20,000 steps a day now and feel so much better.
Listen to podcasts / radio plays / audio books - makes it so much easier to do the evening tasks (folding the washing / batch cooking / tidying / prepping lunches etc) once the kids are in bed as it feels a bit like my time - so I don't flop on the sofa straight away!
And I take probiotics and vitamin C and Zinc - no idea if that makes any difference!

ZoeWashburne · 27/11/2017 21:43

I am a creature of habit, so I love my routine that consists of:
Waking up at the same time every day
Exercise every day
Eating real food that I enjoy
15 minutes of mindfulness
A cleaner once a week
Strict bed times for kids (they don’t have to go to sleep but they have to be in bed)
No screens 45 minutes before bed.
Night time regime- take makeup off, wash face, skin care, eye cream etc
Go to sleep at the same time every day.

I’m a terrible sleeper, so I need to trigger myself that it’s time for bed with a nice routine. I found exercise exhausting until I started doing it every day for 3 weeks- I slept a million times better, and found that I just had so much more energy throughout the day.

I also drink coffee during the day, but stop caffeine after 5pm

I am strict with kids bedtimes. I think the big thing for me was not forcing sleep, or reading until they fell asleep, but rather getting them in bed, reading 2 stories and if they weren’t asleep they could play with a soft toy/little action figure in bed. I found that if I wasn’t strict about sleep, but rather just ‘rest time’, my kids fall asleep fairly fast. But I am strict about the same time every day. It has to be a special occasion to break it.

susurration · 27/11/2017 21:44

My energy and sleep get better when I do the following:
Eat better- more fruit and veg and fresh food, less meat and sugar
More water
Go to bed and wake up at a reasonable time, and roughly the same times every day
Less technology before bed
More exercise, even just getting up off the sofa and pottering around the house or walking for ten minutes. I find that doing nothing leads to me being lethargic for no reason.

flingingmelon · 27/11/2017 21:50

Coffee and 10% more to do than I can handle. If I don't have that extra little bit of pressure I'm a lazy arse.

CheesyFootballs · 27/11/2017 21:56

I want to say exercise, meditation and multivitamins, but the honest answer is lots of sleep and a low dose of antidepressant Grin

ZoeWashburne · 27/11/2017 22:00

Also, dropping sky/ recording TV. I have Netflix or iPlayer if I want to watch something. I found I would just have the TV on in the background constantly. It was such a time suck!

ferntwist · 27/11/2017 22:02

I’m not a momma yet unfortunately but I highly recommend Co-Q 10 enzyme for energy sand vitality. I’ve been taking it every day for two years. It boost energy inside cells. My husband is a biologist and swears by it too.

ferntwist · 27/11/2017 22:03

Oops I mean energy and vitality!

HateHomework · 27/11/2017 22:04

fern there are two forms of coq10, which one do you take and which brand ?

rackhampearl · 27/11/2017 22:05

What age are your dc and what are their bedtimes Thanks?
I like to go to bed early myself without sleeping straight away. It's nice for the dc to have this calm 'me' time too but how early is too early?

chiaseeddisapointmentagain · 27/11/2017 22:06

Crystal meth

RunningOutOfCharge · 27/11/2017 22:06

No white carbs either

Run

Run some more

A job I love

WetsTheVet · 27/11/2017 22:07

I got diagnosed with pernicious anaemia. Monthly B12 injections and now I feel great. Oh and my main motivation is knowing that if I don't do it no fucker else will

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 27/11/2017 22:16

That. As a lone parent, if I don't do it, it doesn't get done.

I get mad afternoon energy slumps. I could sleep at 3.30pm. I usually pick up again and do my best exercise in the evenings when energy levels rise but 3.30pm is a killer. I have been at work, typing an email and literally nodding off at the same time.

Sgtmajormummy · 27/11/2017 22:33

Being accountable.
I regularly surprise myself by finishing something to a good standard just in time.
I tend to work backwards from the deadline and factor in unforeseen circumstances or setbacks.
So to an outsider it looks as if I have it under control.

BUT if there's only myself to please I can be totally lazy, self indulgent and unfocused. Telling other people of my personal plans is a way to put them onto the official list!

A mostly vegetarian diet, B vitamins, sunshine and exercise help.

BelleandBeast · 27/11/2017 22:40

Well I get loads done, never in bed before midnight, addicted to tea, I do run but 1/2 times a week and I am the slowest person I know, I eat Ok but not brilliant, never drink enough water. I do take vitamins. I drink wine 3 night a week.

I get stuff done as nobody else will do it. Grin.

hungryhippo90 · 27/11/2017 22:48

I’ve had a very few brief periods of actually having energy, it seemed linked to exercise and eating well.
I fell off the wagon long ago but them two with actually keeping myself hydrated worked amazingly well.

roomsonfire · 27/11/2017 22:56

7pm for mine. It works a treat. That down time without a screen is vital!

JustHope · 27/11/2017 22:57

A good multivitamin is a must in winter. Vitamins D and B and often lacking and can make you feel tired and a bit down.
