To take this parcel to the post office tomorrow?

On our road we always take parcels in for each other, obviously there are lots at this time of year.

Six days ago I signed for a parcel for one neighbour, I have been round every day, sometimes twice and they have not answered the door. Last night I saw a takeaway driver pull up and they opened the door, I raced to get my shoes on and less than two mins later was knocking on the door.

Again they didn't answer. I know they are in on loads of the times I've been over. WIBU to take the bloody thing back to the post office when I send my eBay stuff tomorrow?

They'll have had a card put through their door to let them know surely?

How big is the parcel?

yy to one last note "Collect it TODAY or it goes"

and yy to no more taking in for them ('speshly if they've gone OTT with Black Friday/ Cyber Monday offers) ... mwah ha ha

llangennith · 26/11/2017 18:20

I’d leave a note saying you’ve taken it to the post office and when you get to the PO tell them exactly what’s happened and get a receipt from the them to prove you’ve returned it.

AlternativeTentacle · 26/11/2017 18:23

'If you don't collect it - it is going on ebay'.

Thumbcat · 26/11/2017 18:35

Can you chuck it over the fence into their back garden?

PoshPenny · 26/11/2017 18:47

Lean on the door bell until they answer it?

lunar1 · 26/11/2017 18:50

Or, I could collect all their Christmas shopping, and on Christmas Eve deliver it all
to a good cause.

I'll give it one more go tomorrow taking it round and then send it back with a receipt.

That's just plain rude. Post office without further warning, assuming you took delivery from Royal Mail in the first place. Mark the parcel "Gone Away".

BarbaraofSevillle · 26/11/2017 18:54

Put it on eBay for charity as a Mystery Box with a witty description and we will help you make it go viral to get the bids up.

Fishcalledlola · 26/11/2017 18:56

Write on the parcel 'refused'. I give my postman mail for the person who lived in my house before me all the time.

Munrow · 26/11/2017 19:01

Err

I had a delivery driver bring me takeaway yesterday - I've been waiting quite a while for an item that hasn't been delivered to me.

Is it me?!!!

Does the house you're talking about have gates?

lunar1 · 26/11/2017 19:07

No gates here, we're not that fancy!

OP posts:
Munrow · 26/11/2017 19:13

I didn't think small gates to stop your dog from escaping were fancy? Hmm

Star2015 · 26/11/2017 19:21

Yes take it to the post office and don’t accept parcels for them again!

greendale17 · 26/11/2017 19:23

Sorry, I should have said, I put a note through on day 3

I think they are trying to pull a scam. You have given them plenty of opportunity to get the parcel even going round there yourself several times. They are taking the piss.

Return the parcel tomorrow.

melj1213 · 26/11/2017 19:50

They do sound strange - it would be one thing if you just kept missing each other but they are very clearly in and just don't want to answer the door - and they don't even know it's the OP (unless they can see through the door) so they just don't seem to want to answer the door ever

I would put one last note through the door tomorrow saying that if - by X time tomorrow - it hasn't been collected or you haven't at least had some form of contact from them to arrange a mutually convenient time for them to pick it up (whether by a note through the door, speaking directly to you, smoke signals or carrier pigeon) then you will be taking the box to the PO and returning it to sender as having had collection refused.

Dafspunk · 26/11/2017 19:53

Just open it and see if it’s something you fancy. If not, bin and deny all knowledge.

huntinghighandlow · 27/11/2017 10:34

If its from groupon they've probably just changed their mind, waiting for it to be returned and then get their refund. My daughter bought one of their mystery gifts recently and a load of tat turned up. It should say something on the label like beauty kitchen etc

BarbaraofSevillle · 27/11/2017 10:38

But why would they rely on someone else, that they seem determined to piss off, to return the parcel for them? Most people would either open it, put it in the bin, leave it on the addressees doorstep, or just shove it in a cupboard unopened and forget about it.

Comparitively few would go to the effort of returning it, so the refund is unlikely to be forthcoming.

RebeccaCloud9 · 30/11/2017 13:15

@lunar1 Have they got it yet?

lunar1 · 30/11/2017 13:20

No, I still have it!! I put a note through saying I would hang onto it till tomorrow. I've been round a couple more times too, just in case someone had broken a leg or something.

I'm just sat parcelling up eBay items to take tomorrow so if they don't have it by the time I've done the school it's going back!

OP posts:
RebootYourEngine · 30/11/2017 13:32

Definitely send it back & dont accept anything from them again. Cheeky fuckers.

Make sure you get a po receipt.

Nikephorus · 30/11/2017 13:44

Just open it and see if it’s something you fancy. If not, bin and deny all knowledge.
Given that you know they're there and not away, and that you've tried contacting them by knocking & by note more than once, I'd open it! Why should they get a refund if they can't be bothered to stir themselves.

SlothMama · 30/11/2017 13:49

I'd post one last note saying that if they don't collect then you'll be taking it to the post office.

OurMiracle1106 · 30/11/2017 13:55

Take it to the post office and get a receipt for it. Photocopy said receipt and post through letterbox keeping original.

That way they can’t claim you’ve got it if they have a receipt for it.

TitaniasCloset · 30/11/2017 15:22

Weird neighbours.
