Christmas Jumpers

Has this been done before?

I don't get it. I'm all for fun and I don't mind doing a bit for charity, but people all over the country are spending a minimum of £13 (?) on a jumper and often a lot more. Wear it once and give £1 to charity.

So it costs £££ in the name of giving £1 to charity, not to mention the waste of all these (nasty acrylic Grin ) jumpers being produced and barely worn.

Am I missing something?

I wear mine more than once! I wear little else on December Grin

EllaHen · 23/11/2017 18:22

I think I'm on my 4th year of mine. I wear it more than once.

The kids love theirs. They are functional items of clothing that can be worn for a few weeks.

People would still want/buy them without the charity aspect.

FlouncyDoves · 23/11/2017 18:23

It’s a ‘day’ in the name of charity and ‘having a laugh in the office’. Wreaks of David Brent.

Ifailed · 23/11/2017 18:24

Compared to the amount some people spend on a wedding dress, it sounds like a bargain, and can be worn on subsequent xmasses.

SparklyLeprechaun · 23/11/2017 18:25

I don't buy nasty acrylic single use jumpers, I buy nice stuff that I can wear several years in a row and feel good in (and it's not like Christmas jumpers go out of fashion).

Unihorn · 23/11/2017 18:26

I wear Christmas jumpers anytime from now until Christmas Day, certainly not just once?!

Tidypidy · 23/11/2017 18:30

All of ours are from the charity shop. Max spend £2.99 for an adult size. When they’re outgrown they’ll go back to be sold again.

PandasRock · 23/11/2017 18:32

I have bought a total of 5 Christmas jumpers, across 3 children, over the last 4? years. Also 4 sparkly/Christmassy t shirts.

They've worn well, dc love them (and wear them lots in December, not just for one day at school), and all have been in good enough condition to be passed down. None have been nasty acrylic, all have been comfortable and good quality.

ILoveMillhousesDad · 23/11/2017 18:34

We have a day in december where the whole family book somewhere for lunch (about 30 of us 'Christmas Jumper Day' We all wear our christmas jumpers/dresses.

We might do look like twonks, but it's just a laugh and it's one of my favourite days of the year Grin

MrsPear · 23/11/2017 18:35

Christmas jumpers are like Christmas decorations - they come out every year on the first then put away when the children go back to school. I've had my one - just red and sparkles - for years. The children have winter theme jumpers. They are worn all winter. The eldest passes his to the youngest and the youngest to his cousin - usually it goes to another cousin after that if it is still in good condition.

However what you are suggesting op is wasteful but i genuinely don't know anyone who does that. Maybe as I don't know anyone with money to burn?!

MrsPear · 23/11/2017 18:36

Oh and ours are cotton

IncyWincyGrownUp · 23/11/2017 18:36

My middle child wears Christmas jumpers all year around. The joy of ASD means zero fucks are given for the boring societal norms. If it feels like an’Ho Ho Ho’ sweater day that’s the one that gets worn. Always fun:o

AllTheWittyNamesAreGone · 23/11/2017 18:36

I wear it throughout December and have had mine 3 years.

Jedbartletforpresident · 23/11/2017 18:37

I hear you OP! 4 DC who all require said jumpers for school and as they are children who, you know, grow pesky children Hmm I can't reuse the ones from last year as they no longer fit. Last year I bought cheap long sleeved t-shirts from H&M for a few quid rather than actual jumpers for the DDs, and the cheapest jumper I could find for DS - no way was I spending upwards of £40 on tops which would be worn at the most for a few weeks and then relagated to the bottom drawer.

juliusjilian · 23/11/2017 18:39

I’ve never owned one. Bah humbug.

MaroonPencil · 23/11/2017 18:39

It has been going on a while. The first few years I sewed stuff onto jumpers for the kids but they began to realise everyone else has a Primark jumper so I can't get away with that any more.

However as well as Christmas Jumper Day they are also asked to wear Xmas jumpers for their plays quite often, and perhaps also for Cubs etc, and they will wear them Christmas Day, so it works out in the end, especially as I buy them big so they can get three years wear out of 'em!

Fffion · 23/11/2017 18:40

I've had my Christmas jumper for 8 years and wear it at least 6 times a season. My DH and DD have borrowed it too.

KickingCuh · 23/11/2017 18:55

I buy primark Xmas jumpers, the quality is enough that one jumper has lasted 5 years. I only wear mine on Christmas occasions (Xmas nights out, Xmas eve, Xmas day, Boxing Day etc) I think it was a tenner.

KickingCuh · 23/11/2017 18:56

I don't bother for the kids though, they grow out of them far too fast for the sake of 2-3 wears.

stella23 · 23/11/2017 18:58

Yanbu, I've just spent 26£ on 2 jumpers for dcs for school, last year one don't fit this year.

Wilburissomepig · 23/11/2017 19:04

Couldn't the three youngest wear their older sibling's jumper from last year? Then you'd only need to buy one cheapy one for the eldest?

LEMtheoriginal · 23/11/2017 19:05

I bought my Christmas jumper from Primark last year. It's actually really cosy and lovely. It's got dacshunds with winter coats on so could actually be a "winter" jumper. I love wearing it.

Oddly I've never found anything else I've liked from Primark I like

PinkHeart5914 · 23/11/2017 19:08

I love them!
I’ve got elf ones for my two little dc
A Santa one for dh
I’ve got a maternity one as I’m very pregnant ( due 28th December) that has a Santa hat and the words Santa baby

goose1964 · 23/11/2017 19:09

I have Christmas t-shirts and a jumper, the jumper is really thick so only God when it's cold. I will rotate my t-shirts over December

mickhucknallspinkpancakes · 23/11/2017 19:11

I find they sell very well on selling groups and eBay at this time of year as they don’t wear out before going out of size and people are looking not to buy full price ones.

But my DS will wear his a lot in December. He loves them.
