Dear Father Christmas/Santa, Please grant our Christmas Wish. We have been very good this year. We promise not to say shit, cunt, or fuck too terribly much unless we're driven to it by Trump CuntFuckery. Oh shit, so much for that promise! Well, we'll TRY. Thank You, the MN Viper Freedom Squad

The 11 biggest victories against Trump by the resistance

amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/dec/02/biggest-victories-trump-resistance

RedToothBrush · 02/12/2017 20:13

Trump said it, not because he's stupid.

But because he does not fear Mueller and thinks he can get away with it.

He is treating those who are Republican as stupid. He is giving them fuel to say, that Trump is not guilty. Its now about whether you are Republican or Democrat. Trump is irrelevant.

AcrossthePond55 · 02/12/2017 20:17

A very valid point Red. He really has no experience of being hoist with his own petard, does he? Therefore he doesn't understand that he should be fearing Mueller. Nor does he understand that Mueller certainly does NOT fear him!

I think he regards the GOP as his 'minions'. There only to serve his needs and to obey his orders. This may prove to be a dangerous attitude if his tweet/admission begins to gather momentum. The GOP will turn on him just as they turned on Nixon. (From my lips to God's ear!)

An interesting Newsweek piece on that Flynn plea.

Co-operation

RedToothBrush · 02/12/2017 20:36

I think you misunderstand me.

Trump has no fear because he has already engineered it so he has nothing to fear. Each passing day has removed the ability to get rid of Trump.

It has got to the point that the GOP have little to fear too, as the system is being rigged to protect their ideology and the parts of the public would still rather Republican than Trump, even if they hate him and even if it means voting for a sexual predator at a local level.

This is the extent that the culture wars have reached.

There is no peaceful resolution in the long term, that I can see...

cozietoesie · 02/12/2017 20:39

Within America, there will - I think - be a peaceful resolution. It won't be easy though.

Emails Dispute White House Claims That Flynn Acted Independently on Russia

<a class="break-all" href="https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/12/02/us/russia-mcfarland-flynn-trump-emails.html?referer=t.co/BJZms5vxNQ?amp=1" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">mobile.nytimes.com/2017/12/02/us/russia-mcfarland-flynn-trump-emails.html?referer=t.co/BJZms5vxNQ?amp=1

On Dec. 29, a transition adviser to Mr. Trump, K. T. McFarland, wrote in an email to a colleague that sanctions announced hours before by the Obama administration in retaliation for Russian election meddling were aimed at discrediting Mr. Trump’s victory. The sanctions could also make it much harder for Mr. Trump to ease tensions with Russia, “which has just thrown the U.S.A. election to him,” she wrote in the emails obtained by The Times.

[...]Mr. Bossert forwarded Ms. McFarland’s Dec. 29 email exchange about the sanctions to six other Trump advisers, including Mr. Flynn; Reince Priebus, who had been named as chief of staff; Stephen K. Bannon, the senior strategist; and Sean Spicer, who would become the press secretary.

cozietoesie · 02/12/2017 21:13

Russia 'threw the election to him'??

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 02/12/2017 21:24

Mr. Obama, she wrote, was trying to “box Trump in diplomatically with Russia,” which could limit his options with other countries, including Iran and Syria. “Russia is key that unlocks door,” she wrote.

She also wrote that the sanctions over Russian election meddling were intended to “lure Trump in trap of saying something” in defense of Russia, and were aimed at “discrediting Trump’s victory by saying it was due to Russian interference.”

“If there is a tit-for-tat escalation Trump will have difficulty improving relations with Russia, which has just thrown U.S.A. election to him,” she wrote.

Mr. Bossert replied by urging all the top advisers to “defend election legitimacy now.”

My main takeaway from 3 days of meetings in Washington, incl senior officials: war between US and N Korea is much closer than many people realise. Officials think deterrence unlikely to work v a madman. Unless sanctions change N Korea's behaviour, US cd start a pre-emptive war.

AcrossthePond55 · 02/12/2017 23:00

There is no peaceful resolution in the long term, that I can see...

I guess I have more faith in my fellow citizens than you have, Red. I still (perhaps foolishly) believe in the Constitution and the Power of the People to direct change. Change works both ways, as we have just seen. But a swinging pendulum eventually swings the other way.

Me too.

Because wherever there is power or more specifically the abuse of power, there is always resistance.

cozietoesie · 03/12/2017 00:20

I actually have faith - in general terms - in the power of the citizenry. But timing........And events..........

Just so we’re clear, a vetted statement drafted by counsel that admits to a crime is MUCH MORE INCRIMINATING than a tweet tossed off by a suspect with a well-known reputation for saying things that aren’t true.

Mueller cut a massive deal w/Flynn,gave up 30 years-ish punishment for a 1 count plea specified as 0-6 months imprisonment. As a deeply experienced prosecutor w/natl security adviser in crosshairs,he'd only do that to catch a much bigger fish, really just 3 people.

cozietoesie · 03/12/2017 01:25

I guess that Mr K has three particular people in mind?

lionheart · 03/12/2017 01:59

Trump has 66%, Pence 5% and Kushner 29%.

But lots of people have indicated 'All of the above'.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 03/12/2017 08:17

This isn’t going to help with the sneers of fake news although the prompt, robust response to it should, people bandying the term around aren’t going to get beyond “they lied!!111!1!!1”
