My prediction is that the WH (not just Scrotus, but everyone currently on staff) is going to lie, lie, lie even in the face of uncontrovertible facts and truth. The same way a toddler lies with a chocolate smeared face when asked "Did you get into the sweets?". Scrotus lifelong modus operandi has been to lie and deny and so far he's had the money to get away with it since he's never faced (to my knowledge) criminal actions, just civil suits that he could settle without admission of guilt if he couldn't get his way. He'll see no reason to change what has worked for him in the past and he'll direct everyone on staff to do the same.
We need just one person in a position of knowledge and who everyone knows is a confidante of Scrotus in the WH to turn tail and run to Mueller begging for immunity in exchange for testimony. One Person. Just One. And just like Jericho, the walls will come tumbling down. (Looking at you, Kushner)
Just a note for those unfamiliar with US impeachment; the DOJ cannot indict a sitting president. In other words, nothing Mueller finds will result in Scrotus being led away in handcuffs. IF Mueller finds enough evidence of illegal activities, he will simply turn those facts over to the House of Representatives for their decision as to whether or not to form an Impeachment Committee. (This is the point at which Nixon tendered his resignation) It will be up to that committee as to whether or not to approve a motion for impeachment and hand it over to the full House for a vote. If approved by House vote*, the president is now impeached and it moves to the Senate. The Senate holds a trial on the articles of impeachment, and if convicted by Senate vote the official is removed from office. This is the point at which a then-former President can be criminally prosecuted. (This is why Ford pardoned Nixon, to 'spare the nation' further division and strife during a trial. Bullshit)
*This is why the midterms are so important. This is why we need a Dem majority in the House.
On other fronts, the budget is going to pass, unfortunately. And Scrotus will sign it gleefully so he can point to his Yuge (single) 'accomplishment'.
I was so hoping that at the very least the ACA rider would be removed, but looks like that's not going to happen. God be with the 13 million who are going to lose their insurance. God be with the Medicaid beneficiaries who are being thrown under the bus of tax breaks for the mega-rich. God be with us all.
Just remember that budget negotiations for FY 2019 have already started. And the mid terms are next year. Hopefully some of the damage that will have been done in the next 12 months can be rectified or at least mitigated by then. Budgets can be affected by legislation after they have been passed and legislators are aware of this. If when the Scrotus budget cuts hits the more moderate GOP constituents they will be howling at their elected officials to 'do something'.
A plea from me; those of you on this thread who are eligible to vote in US elections, no matter where you live in this world, please be sure you are registered and that you have made the request for absentee ballots. Those of you who live here, especially those in red districts or states, get out and get active!
