Dear Father Christmas/Santa, Please grant our Christmas Wish. We have been very good this year. We promise not to say shit, cunt, or fuck too terribly much unless we're driven to it by Trump CuntFuckery. Oh shit, so much for that promise! Well, we'll TRY. Thank You, the MN Viper Freedom Squad

I’ll be honest I’ve not read this thread but if Trump is impeached what do people expect/want to happen? A Republican replacement, Hillary Clinton to replace him or a complete new election with new candidates?

lionheart · 29/11/2017 22:25

I don't like 'resort' because I think it's more like a palace of obsequiousness and corruption but without the palace part Grin.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 29/11/2017 22:26

What I want:

Consequences for all those that have facilitated foreign interference.
Accountability for all those who have enabled Trump by not acting as proper checks and balances.
Reversal of judicial appointments.
Reversal of media takeover by Sinclair group.
Reverting back to "normal order".
Everyone to realise complacency has no place in protecting democracy and actively resisting by being engaged from dog catcher level up.
A new election.

What I expect:

A lot of unrest and disruption.
A Republican replacement.
The Aftermath
Very little of the first list.

lionheart · 29/11/2017 22:31

That pretty much covers it (with voter suppression and gerrymandering in there under checks and balances).

This is horrifying.

People Are Getting Robocalls about Their "Derogatory" Trump Posts

gizmodo.com/people-are-getting-robocalls-about-their-derogatory-t-1820819203/amp

Brett Vanderbrook was driving for Uber last week when he got a call from an unfamiliar number. He let it go to voicemail and when he listened to it later, he got a shock: It was a recorded message telling him to stop making “negative and derogatory posts about President Trump.”

“It was kind of threatening. I was dumbfounded at first and then creeped out,” Vanderbrook, who lives in Dallas, Texas, said in a phone interview. “Then I was angry and that’s when I decided to share it.”

[...]Vanderbrook is not alone, though. Across the country, and even in Canada, people have reported on social media that they’ve received the same robocall. The earliest complaint dates back to July. The intensity of the calling campaign is hard to gauge; a search of complaints turned up 10 reports scattered across different platforms.

cozietoesie · 29/11/2017 22:53

What do I expect, Jamiek? That depends on the timing and the make-up of Congress at the time. Smile

For me, anyway.

ShockThat's really sinister, Pain. The whole "we're watching you" thing.

Happened in Zimbabwe for years - they let you know they really were watching you. Also smells very Russian - certainly used to be the case that security forces wanted you to know (or believe) they knew things about you.

Somehow I'm not surprised Jack Posobiec is associated with the group doing this. Posobiec was one of the key amplifiers of the data hacked before the French election, in an attempt to smear Macron - and was the first to push MacronLeaks on Twitter. Also involved in pizzagate.

He's got to move first.

AcrossthePond55 · 29/11/2017 23:17

If when Scrotus is impeached (or finally gets 5051'd) the line of succession is already in place. Each one of the successors would have to be disqualified before a Democrat would even get a look in. I think they're probably trying to move Heaven and Earth to keep Pence looking clean. #1-3 are bad enough, but God help us if we ever get below successor #3.

ThinkProgress obtained a legal course that Roy Moore co-authored in 2011.

It argues that women should not be permitted to run for office.

It's also not crazy about women voting.

It is actually nightmarish.

AcrossthePond55 · 29/11/2017 23:51

cozie, even if Pence comes tumbling down, I don't think they'd be able to find a reason to disqualify Ryan, Hatch, Tillerson, & Mnuchin to get to Mattis.

Although who knows? These days it's just as likely that the alt right/Scrotus Gang would at least try to manufacture some to get them bypassed.

Why is the GOP so comfortable pushing massively unpopular policies like TrumpCare, the tax bill, and the end of net neutrality?

Because they're also working to eliminate free and fair elections. www.theglobeandmail.com/amp/opinion/gutting-net-neutrality-is-a-death-knell-for-the-resistance/article37088279/

Americans also face a serious threat to the integrity of elections, with gerrymandering, restrictive voter ID laws, a bogus "voter fraud" commission, insecure voting machines, and foreign interference that is not only unchallenged but is sometimes encouraged by Republicans all adding up to the likelihood that the 2018 midterm elections will not be free or fair. Voter suppression will likely be rampant, with non-white and immigrant Americans the primary targets of disenfranchisement.

And here we lie at the interconnected horror of the Trump administration's autocratic manoeuvres. Consider this scenario for 2018: The repeal of net neutrality will stem the flow of information, making voter suppression harder to document. The packing of the courts will make the voter suppression that is documented harder to challenge. And the long-standing solution to purveyors of unpopular policies – vote them out – will be, by definition, impossible, since the election is rigged and the rigging uncontestable. This carefully constructed web of repression is how democracy dies.

cozietoesie · 30/11/2017 00:28

I don't think they have the time, Pain. (They thought they'd have 8 years but they haven't.)

Ryan Lizza
@RyanLizza
I asked Roger Stone in March if Randy Credico was his Wikileaks contact and he lied to me and said no. He just texted me, “A misguided effort to protect Credico who I felt had helped me on an off the record basis. Sorry.” Many reporters use Stone as a Trump source. Beware.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 30/11/2017 00:45

But net neutrality is almost a done deal and the courts have been packed with pro trump judges. Plus voter disenfranchisement is well documented (although they passed a decision to allow prisoners to vote in Alabama this week I think?) and gerrymandering is already in play (see the elections just gone where democrats won significantly more seats but still didn’t have control of the state house). They’ve already put things in place, with dodgy voting machines that they’re not investigating and actively wiping clean, to huge Russian social media army and propaganda press with fox. They don’t need any more time

Kellyanne Conway is under investigation for violating the Hatch Act, which prohibits certain political activity by federal employees. Removal from her job is the penalty under the Act.

Walter Shaub
@waltshaub
WH defended Conway against @CampaignLegal’s Hatch Act complaint by saying her words about Jones supported POTUS’s agenda. That’s an admission of guilt! Jones’ only relevance to POTUS is his bid for Senate, and the topic was: Does POTUS have the votes in the Senate for a tax bill.
