Keeping DD off school today

Mainly because:
She got her 2nd period (shes 12) her 1st one was months ago at start of summer hols..
She has a bit of a snotty cold.
And
She had swimming at school today with a male teacher and although that bothers me less these days..I really felt for her.
I did say to her that she needs to be able to cope with this if it starts coming every month, cos she couldn't take a day off school every month.
We had a lazy day watching a movie and chatting.
What would you have done? Have I set a precedent? I want to make it easy for her cos my mum was awful....

@PotteringAlong periods are not an illness?

Are you fucking kidding?

I’ve had 26 years of every month - vomiting, fainting, awful pain, losing so much blood I can’t leave the house for three or four days, flu like symptoms.

And I don’t think it’s that uncommon.

Get to fuck with - it’s normal and not an illness.

My period isn't an illness, but the excruciating endometriosis me and millions of other women suffer from sure as shit is. It actually isn't at all normal or acceptable to be really suffering from periods. Thankfully my mum and dad were so kind and listened to me when I was younger, like OP is listening to her daughter, and it got discovered early - I'm just finding out now that that might have made the difference between me being fertile and not.

I don't have DD's but I would have kept her off if I did.
The OP mentioned that her DD also had a snotty cold and that she told her that she couldn't take a day off every month so she's hardly setting a precedent.

My mum used to occasionally let me have a day off for periods or if I was just a bit miserable (I got quite badly bullied at school). I remember those days with huge fondness and gratitude - and my grades were fine. YADNBU.
