I was offered a job with a massive health organisation back in September, ive only just started after ages of waiting around. it turns out i will not be doing what i applied to do ( catering based role with some cleaning aspects has somehow turned into just cleaning and i have been put on “ relief team “ meaning i’ll just be called in when people are sick despite me saying at my interview i didn’t want this and being told that wouldn’t happen. The manager was really nasty also. would i bu to leave already? i don’t even want to go to the training tomorrow :( i

No, life is too short for shit like that unless you are desperate for the money. I would tell them exactly why you are declining further training and move on. Good luck

alltoomuchrightnow · 22/11/2017 01:02

That's awful. What did the manager say?
Yes I'd quit, absolutely. They lied to you. It's not going to get better, also it's zero hours contract..waiting around for people to be sick!

wierd7678 · 22/11/2017 01:02

i dont know do you need the money?

ICJump · 22/11/2017 01:05

Why not look for something else rather than just quit?

lucylouuu · 22/11/2017 01:14

just making lots of bitchy comments and after forking out £60 for a pair of shoes they told me at my interview to get, he told me today they weren’t suitable and i said i’d have to wait a month to buy them and his response was “ well if a needle falls on your foot and you get aids it’s not my fault “. Was trying on uniform and the first size i tried on didn’t fit and he said “ no offence but perhaps you’d be better suited to a mans uniform “ in a really nasty tone. I also said in September i’d need the week over Christmas off as I was going away with DP and his family, they said it would be fine but this manager told me today it’s not happening. I do need money and it took my absolutely ages to find this job but I have bad anxiety and dreaded starting anyway but it’s been horrible!

the thought of waking up in 5 hours and going there makes me feel horrible

If I were you, tell them it's off. This is not what you'd agreed to do.

overnightangel · 22/11/2017 01:21

contact HR immediately, doesn’t matter that you haven’t started yet you’ve been abused by your boss

wierd7678 · 22/11/2017 01:26

agree with contacting hr maybewritting an email now so its in there inbox tomorrow morning

lucylouuu · 22/11/2017 01:28

what should I say to HR? just make a complaint about how the manager was?

Absolutely. I'm self employed but it's taken me bloody years to be able to see red flags and turn a job down.

FeelingAggrieved · 22/11/2017 01:31

They are being absolutely awful already and it is not what you signed up for.

mimibunz · 22/11/2017 01:40

Definitely let HR know, as he might already have a reputation, but also QUIT! Look out for yourself because this manager/company obviously isn't going to and it won't get any better. Did you find this job through an agency?

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 22/11/2017 01:41

What a shame! Sad

I agree with everyone else though, life’s too short to put up with that kind of treatment. The only exception for me would be if you can’t manage without the money - in which case I’d say do it for now, but start looking elsewhere immediately. Hopefully with this job on your CV you might have better luck?

Also, if you do stay, go to HR regarding your holiday at Christmas. If it was agreed at Christmas it should stand. That said, if you are zero hours bank staff, surely you have the right to refuse any shift offered anyway!

lucylouuu · 22/11/2017 01:45

my offer letter and at the interview we agreed monday to friday 32.5 hours a week but suddenly i’m on relief! i think because i’m a lot younger than everyone else in the role they think they can do this... i’m so glad you all agree and support me it makes me feel like i’m not just being pathetic

OP posts:
vwlphb · 22/11/2017 02:02

I think you should write them a polite but firm email outlining your concerns about being misled on the hours and role in your offer letter, the inaccurate shoe advice and your manager's inappropriate comments. Say that you would like confirmation of the terms and conditions you were offered, reimbursement for the cost of the shoes, and an apology from the manager.

If none are forthcoming, just name and shame them here. I'm sure the Daily Mail will be along directly to pick up this story, as it sounds awful.

nursy1 · 22/11/2017 02:03

Love, you are not being pathetic. I agree with other posters here. Talk to HR, look for something else or if you can afford it just leave.

Arealhumanbeing · 22/11/2017 07:00

I’m so sorry, OP. That must have been awful. I agree with others that you shouldn’t go and also with the suggestion that you write to them.

Definitely mention your manager’s inappropriate comments.

Mittens1969 · 22/11/2017 07:28

That’s awful, being misled like that, and it’s definitely not going to get better. You’re definitely not being pathetic. I definitely wouldn’t go in if I were you. Flowers

WaitrosePigeon · 22/11/2017 07:31

Fuck that!

flumpybear · 22/11/2017 07:37

Please speak to HR and tell them it’s the wrong job plus tell them about the shoes as that’s insane !

ChasedByBees · 22/11/2017 07:42

Yes I'd leafs and complain about your manager and the situation and seek reimbursement for the shoes too.

There will be better jobs out there.

Squirrels765 · 22/11/2017 07:45

Don’t go, life’s too short, there’s lots of Christmas temp jobs in retail at the moment see if you can get one just for the short term if you need cash
It sounds horrible

Ceto · 22/11/2017 07:56

Contact HR before you make any final decisions. If there is such a wide discrepancy between what you were offered and what is happening now, at the very least they need to give you an explanation, and they may be able to sort the problems out.

Twoweekcruise · 22/11/2017 08:11

Agree with others that life is too short to put up with crap like that and you don’t need to be around knobheads like that! I’ve just handed in my notice, I’ve been in the job just 11 weeks but I hate it, the relief I have felt since quitting is wonderful, I feel so much better. There are lots of Xmas jobs going at the mo, maybe you could try that avenue? Good luck Smile
