I was offered a job with a massive health organisation back in September, ive only just started after ages of waiting around. it turns out i will not be doing what i applied to do ( catering based role with some cleaning aspects has somehow turned into just cleaning and i have been put on “ relief team “ meaning i’ll just be called in when people are sick despite me saying at my interview i didn’t want this and being told that wouldn’t happen. The manager was really nasty also. would i bu to leave already? i don’t even want to go to the training tomorrow :( i

Is that not a breach of contract on their part? I would take it to HR. Lifes too short to dread your job.

If you have written details of what you were offered at the interview, I would contact HR and explain that this is not happening. Wait for the response on that score. If no suitable explanation is offered , within 24/48 hrs, then quit. I would send an email to HR and cc.CEO of company explaining why you felt compelled to resign and how you felt sidelined and lied to. If you are thinking about the money, temp Xmas work is available in retail (but at least it will bring some money in) and keep looking for a job in your chosen field. Good luck

You need to contact HR to ensure what you are doing now complies with what was in your offer letter (presuming you still have it). If you need the money you'll need to go through the correct channels to get this sorted, rather than just quit.

Is the company having trouble recruiting staff by any chance? I think before you quit you should make an appointment with HR and ask if they have withdrawn the job on offer as the training you are undergoing is for a different job. Do let them know about the Manager's attitude. You also need to raise the issue of the shoes you were instructed to buy and why they are deemed unsuitable.

The issue of clothing doesn't surprise me as one of our managers thought it would be good to provide a uniform for evening staff. He asked for sizes and ordered uniforms, none of which fitted and some staff were in tears. When I looked at them and the brochure and measured the uniforms the problem became clearer as they were not designed to fit taller people, arms too narrow etc. The men's uniforms are looser and more comfortable for working as the women's ones are often too short, arms too narrow, bust darts too high so they don't fit the bust.

If you do not get a positive response from HR then quit on the basis you were misled.

Hope you’re ok OP what did you decide on in the end?

SloeSloeQuickQuickGin · 22/11/2017 11:44

Will quitting affect any benefits you may be entitled to?

MissionItsPossible · 22/11/2017 11:47

The aids comment alone would be enough to put me off. How unprofessional.

lucylouuu · 22/11/2017 13:49

it’s the NHS so i’m a bit hesitant to cause a fuss but will definitely complain about the manager. Thank you all you’ve all made me feel a lot better!

I work for an NHS Trust, if anyone in our organisation was treating staff like that then our director of HR would want to know, there is no way we would want a reputation for treating people so badly.

Definitely speak to HR.

Have you been recruited by the NHS organisation directly or by a subcontractor?

Viviennemary · 22/11/2017 14:08

Yes you should quit. Because it's not even a guaranteed job anyway. But it's worth phoning HR first. Did you get the offer in writing. Yes they should be named and shamed. Especially if you are being offered only relief work and this wasn't made clear at your interview. And report that manager as well. Comments totally out of order.
