Advent calendar for a birthday- unreasonable present?

Is it unreasonable to buy a £20 advent calendar (a toy one, not a food one) for a 5-year old nephrew's late-November birthday?

A parent who has already got the same item that gives every day for a month?

A child who doesn’t want their birthday to be about Christmas?

A child who doesn’t want to open exactly the same thing every day for a month?

and a child (and parent) who does not expect to be given a joint gift with christmas?

anyway- read the it sucks to have a birthday in december thread (paraphrasing the title) and see what people who actually have birthdays close to christmas think about it all.

I have an early November birthday and it wouldn't upset me but then I'm an adult. I'm not sure thst late Nov counts as "the run up to Xmas" enough to feel sensitive about this.

That said be on the safe side and just get a toy.

I thought it was a nice thought.
You can just get basic packs of Lego that aren't a specific thing. It will come with ideas of items you could make, but the pieces are less specific. My DD prefers these as if it's a kit, she doesn't like taking it apart again!

I have a Jan bday, my kids are Jan and November, DH is January too. We don't mind getting presents in the sale/ joint presents. We're just appreciative of a present at all. I would be very disappointed in my kids if they expected anything more or different on their birthdays. I can't believe people would complain about a gift!
