Being nosy here.....
What’s your Xmas present budget for children.
Or if you have no children what’s your budget for family members/friends so forth
Have u a budget for family pets also....

My 2.5 year old £100
My 5 year old £200
My 6 year old £200
Other family members £20/£30 each
Have no pets

OP posts:

We’ll have spent £300 total on four kids (so approx £75 each) on gifts. (Age 4 - 10)
But then we are doing some lovely things too, like Pantomime trip; ice skating; trip to see the Nutcracker and lots of crafts/ carol concerts/ baking/ games etc

We’ll probably spend a similar amount (£75 ish) on each other.

Then little bits for family members etc

We could spend lots more, money isn’t tight, but I don’t think the main pleasure is in the presents. We’ve shopped around for bargains and they all have something they really want plus fun stockings.

I don’t see the need to go bonkers buying stuff; would rather we enjoyed making lots of memories.

NeverTwerkNaked · 19/11/2017 23:30

(drizzle our income sounds similar to yours)

AnonEvent · 19/11/2017 23:31

I feel proper stingy now! We're on a decent combined income (2 x 50+K) but this is what I and both siblings on both sides of the family always stick to approx. All siblings are pretty comfortable too, not millionaires but all at least one higher rate tax payer in the family and some with no kids too! you're absolutely right. My family are reasonably comfortable, but my mum has always gone wild at Christmas, when I used to spend Christmas with an exBoyfriend it was actually embarrassing, I'd have a big, month-long-holiday-size suitcase of presents. Of course I was grateful, but it stuck out a bit.

So I always spend a fair bit on my family. DH's family are more careful (similar earning/savings I imagine), but don't put a huge focus on massive numbers of gifts.

I'm happy either way, so long as I get enough new socks that I can wear a new pair every day for the first two weeks of January, I'm a happy bunny.

£100-£150 each for DP and adult DC - £50-£100 for DDs DP
Maybe £200 total for everyone else - thankfully not a big family and I don’t buy for friends
I spend £10 each on my staff as I’m manager of a charity and we don’t spend money on anything but essentials
Total bill usually £800-£900 which I fund by selling things on eBay

NeverTwerkNaked · 19/11/2017 23:34

@Getsorted21 I would definitely recommend a balance bike! DD was given a second hand one and loved every moment on it. She’s just been given a (second hand) pedal bike for her 4th birthday and basically climbed on it and cycled off into the sunset without stabilisers even Shock

Boredomismyenemy · 19/11/2017 23:35

We don't spend a fortune as I buy throughout the year. By the time it's all bought and wrapped I should think it will come in just under £400. That's for 4 DC, DH, 2 nieces, DM and DF plus my sibling and a couple of close family friends. DH will get me something too in £20-£30 price range.

We usually spend along the following lines:

Around £30 per adult in my family (my DPs, two adult siblings plus fiancé, my DGM). Same again for my DM, who has a December birthday.

Around £50 for MIL (who doesn't get presents from anyone else).

I also buy for my friend's two kids, around £15 each usually.

DS is two and we spend more on him each year Blush. This year, he seems to be getting loads but to be fair, we've spent about £70.

So we probably spend around £300-£350 on presents not including to each other. I usually spend around £70-80 on DP, though he may get a bit more this year as he wants something that I'm prepared to spend around £100 on.

Talkingfrog · 20/11/2017 01:09

Haven't added up for DD (6) yet but probably around £200. Most are bought in a sale, 3 for 2, smyths when they were taking £10 of per £50. This year she has really got into family games so we have ended up with a number of those, which I am pleased about as I think they may be played with more than other toys and we can all join in.

Family such as parents, siblings, nieces and nephews etc around £20-£30 depending on what I end up getting, but will pay a bit more if there is something that they specifically want.

Others between 5 and £15 depending on who am buying for and what I see.

DH and I have given up setting a budget as we used to then ignore it so will buy a few things each other wants and hope it is about even.

StrawbRhi · 20/11/2017 01:21

DD1's 7th birthday is on Christmas Day so her total looks skewed- £200 total (but she's getting a hand me down iPad and some cheap Uggs so I'm afraid it'll look more than it is)
DD2 6months- £70 total (more for DD1s benefit than hers)
DH- £100
M&FIL- £50
Teen neices- £25 x2
Smaller neices and nephews- £10 x8
Friends- we host NYE for 30 people. Sod gifts too.
Friend's kids- £5-£10 X10
Adults on my side don't do presents.

The food will be the kicker. Birthday party on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day meal and hosting my closest friend and her family for a Boxing Day buffet tea. I don't even want to cost that.

MrsOverTheRoad · 20/11/2017 02:31

I don't budget. I listen to what the children want and then decide if I can afford them. Usually I can get them their main gift and some of the other stuff.

Not everything.

Chrisinthemorning · 20/11/2017 06:53

I don’t budget but I know how much we have spent as pretty much done.
DS (5) £200. He has a 1st December box, stocking, main present and a sack of other bits, so does very well! I worked out that we would have spent £300 if I had paid RRP for everything though, thanks to the bargain thread Grin
DH £80 this year. Usually a bit more.
Parents - £40 each
Other people including SIL, my auntie, DS godparents, family friend’s children, work token presents, teachers, hairdresser. Probably £250

Honeybooboo123 · 20/11/2017 06:59

Not really drivwn by budget, more what we know they would like. Partner is getting something around £200 and two kids might get 100-200 each, other family up to 50. But not a set thing. Don't go into debt or savings to buy

RacingRaccoons · 20/11/2017 07:04

My DS - Around £500 (but I don’t spend a lot of times, mainly experiences like holidays or the sea life centre).
My parents - £100
My siblings - £50
Grandparents- £40 (although this year I’ve spent £75 on my Grandmother but she has done a lot for me this year!)
Other family members - £10

I tend to spread the costs and buy bits all year long when I see them.

ShatteredRose · 20/11/2017 07:04

I used to give my teens £200 each. This year eldest is at uni and has his own income so I'm putting it down to £100. Youngest has descended into a world of drugs so I'm thinking he won't be getting any money and I'll buy him clothes etc instead (sorry to darken the mood :-( )

RacingRaccoons · 20/11/2017 07:06
  • I don’t spend a lot on toys, that should say. I really should learn to read before posting.
LordSugarWillSeeYouNow · 20/11/2017 07:09

I have ds 14 and dd 6.

Probably about £600-700 each plus clothes.

Dd's doll that she has wanted since last year is over £200 alone Blush Barbie dream house around £200 so it's not like a lot of presents.

Ds wants a 4K television and we're also getting him the new Xbox s, he currently has Xbox one.
Add everything else on and its very easy to get to that amount.

We are due an unexpected windfall though so not too worried.

Farrar · 20/11/2017 07:11

Well our little one won’t be here until July but so far for Xmas..

Husband and I spend about £300 on each other (this will be the last year for that though 😫).

Mums & partners - £50
Dads & partners - £15 (we’re not close to either side)
6 nephews & nieces £10-15 each
Our 2 fur babies - £15 each

Christmas is my absolute favourite time of the year and I’ve inherited my mum’s need to spend money, I get such a thrill from it.

Bbbbbbbb2017 · 20/11/2017 07:13

Mine have had £200 each they are 1 and 3

My parents have had £70 each and we have no one else to buy for

Cupoteap · 20/11/2017 07:16

D.C. probably about £300-400 games consoles plus games this year

Dp normally around £50

Dm with my presents and presents from the D.C. about 100-150

Db/sil 30-50

Dn 30 each

BelfastSmile · 20/11/2017 07:21

DH and I treat ourselves to a hotel break weekend instead of presents, so that's about £200.

Then around £30 for parents. My sister and I don't buy each other any more, but DH spends £10 per sibling.

About £15 for each niece/nephew.

DS (3) main present £30 (bought with Tesco vouchers) and then stocking fillers about £20 or so (includes things like new toothbrushes).

DD (will be 9m) about £25-30 total, some of which will be useful stuff like vests, food etc. She doesn't need any toys really, as she has DS's stuff, but she's getting a couple of new things that I'll be able to pass on to my cousins who are both expecting next year.

speakout · 20/11/2017 07:21

I don't budget as such, but I spend probably £300 on each child, adults much less. A very small family.
Total budget for christmas including food, tree and treats around £1300.

Trumpton · 20/11/2017 07:24

DH £100
Dc 4x £100
DGC 3x £50 but this year a smaller present each as we paid for Centre parcs activities .
Mil £100
db and family £100
God children and family £50
Other close friends £100 ( divided amongst 6)

So about £900 . Our children are adults now and we try to keep about £100 but can afford to be flexible . Dd2 last year lusted after some expensive boots so had money towards them and a token gift on the day.

YellowMakesMeSmile · 20/11/2017 07:25

Very easy to spend £600. Some presents are very expensive.

Mine are older than six so I spend a lot but learnt on MN ever to give the figure Grin

Siblings about £25, likewise nieces and nephews. Parents around £60.

TheHodgeHeg · 20/11/2017 07:30

I don't budget. For my siblings and parents I'll normally spend £50-£100. For young cousins normally £10-£20 each and for my husband anywhere ranging from £50 - £600 depending on what he'd like.
