To hate football on my tele

Lazyginger · 18/11/2017 19:26

We have dh family for the day/evening. Dh doesn't like football. I detest it. However. A day sky sports pass has been purchased and there's been football on the tele all day. Well, since noon.
I could cope with 1 match, especially if it's a big important game. But all day?
Am I being a bitch? I cannot watch football all evening too Sad
I would never go to visit people then expect to watch tv all day. Maybe it's just me. I am clearly a miserable cow.

It’s not that big a deal, it’s one day. Couldn’t get myself particularly worked up about it.

ScreamingValenta · 18/11/2017 19:38

I agree with you, OP, and the same would apply to any all-day television watching, not just football. Why have they bothered to go to your house just to watch television - they might as well have stayed at home to watch it. Watching for an hour or two, maybe - but not all day!

user1471517900 · 18/11/2017 19:40

There have been two televised games today..... Arsenal v Spurs at 12.30 then Man United Newcastle at 5.30. If you had Sky Sports then substitute the later game for Fulham but that is just two games in total.

Leeds2 · 18/11/2017 19:40

I suppose it keeps them away from you!

How does your DH feel, given he doesn't like football?

Ttbb · 18/11/2017 19:43

The sound makes me a bit sucidal. There's sonething about it that makes my head hurt and makes me extremely anxious. No one else I know seems to have a problem with it but I can't stand it. I can just about cope through one match (upstairs with my head shoved under a pillow) but I couldn't deal with it all day.

forceslover · 18/11/2017 19:44

Turn over and watch strictly!

LoniceraJaponica · 18/11/2017 19:48

"A day sky sports pass has been purchased"

Why? I wouldn't do that for any visitors. If they are so desperate to watch sport can't they record it and avoid listening to or seeing any results? OH adores rugby, but DD and I find watching paint dry more interesting so he records it. It isn't difficult.

If sport is so important to these people why did they bother visiting you anyway?

Crunchymum · 18/11/2017 19:51

You can buy one day Sky Sport passes?

user1471517900 · 18/11/2017 19:57

It's only two games with a 3 hour gap between one finishing and the next one starting.

Unless they watched Soccer Saturday in between. From the OP I might suspect this was the case tbf.

SilverySurfer · 18/11/2017 20:03

I agree that football is boring but you did buy the one day Sky Sports pass, presumably so they could watch it. When I have visitors my tv gets switched off - maybe try that next time?

JustDanceAddict · 18/11/2017 20:12

I hate it too. The noise makes me stabby!

MongerTruffle · 18/11/2017 20:14

You can buy one day Sky Sport passes?

On Now TV (for £6.99 a day)

Notreallyarsed · 18/11/2017 20:18

Why did everyone pile into your house to watch football if neither of you like it?
That would be like someone walking into my house and forcing me to watch TOWIE or some other reality mince.

LoniceraJaponica · 18/11/2017 20:19

Or Celeb Big Boring in my case Notreallyarsed

Notreallyarsed · 18/11/2017 20:20

@LoniceraJaponica ugh that too! I have to say I’m a massive football fan, but if OP hates it I can see why she’s not happy!

Notso · 18/11/2017 20:28

Yes, this is how I feel. It's worse when DH puts it on the car radio, I have to fight the urge to jump out the car.

OP I'd just go out if I were you.

Lazyginger · 18/11/2017 20:34

Well yes if it was so important why did they come? I've no idea Confused. Dh fixed the sports pass.
(The pmt is getting to me stresshead I am) Angry

OP posts:
museumum · 18/11/2017 20:36

I can’t stand the noise of it, the angry jeering noise 😢
It’s nothing like the noise of other sports which sound far more like support to me than football which just sounds so angry.

AMagdalena · 18/11/2017 20:37

You poor thing.
YANBU

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 18/11/2017 21:10

Whilst I think it’s annoying for you and I don’t see why they would come if they just planned on watching football 2 games 3 hours apart isn’t that bad and Is certainly not all day

Ttbb · 18/11/2017 21:14

I'm really glad that I am not the only one who has problems with the noise-I was worried that I was a bit mad.

ilovesooty · 18/11/2017 21:14

Why did your husband buy it if he hates football?

ByThePowerOfRa · 18/11/2017 21:15

Your dh bought the pass to watch football, although he doesn’t actually like watching it himself? That was silly! Now the guests probably feel as if they have to watch it all even if they aren’t fussed and your dh has just shelled out for something he will get no enjoyment out of.

Sounds miserable to me too btw. My ILs usually have some sort of sport on when we visit them. I think they don’t see it as vegging out in front of the tv (which is what it is). I think, for some people, watching sport is mandatory!

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 18/11/2017 21:33

Watching sport can be social

LoniceraJaponica · 18/11/2017 21:35

"Watching sport can be social"

Only if everyone want to watch it. I find football utterly boring, and would rather shave my head and eat my own hair than watch several hours of football.
