To hate football on my tele

We have dh family for the day/evening. Dh doesn't like football. I detest it. However. A day sky sports pass has been purchased and there's been football on the tele all day. Well, since noon.
I could cope with 1 match, especially if it's a big important game. But all day?
Am I being a bitch? I cannot watch football all evening too Sad
I would never go to visit people then expect to watch tv all day. Maybe it's just me. I am clearly a miserable cow.

YABVU. It's not tele. It's telly.

One approach is to keep asking really inane questions throughout the match - 'why has that man gone to stand in the corner?' etc and at crucial moments such as a penalty, get up and stand in front of the TV on a pretence of adjusting the angle of the screen so everyone can see it better Grin

Of course I just wouldn’t class it as just vegging out, dependent on the people you’re with.

Well, when the whole family are sitting in front of the tv and not talking, (except the odd generic football-watching-cliche-outburst), even during meals, vegging out is exactly what I’d call it. I’m sure some people have scintillating discussions during football matches; just not my ILs!

Like I said it’s dependent on the people you’re with, one or two people sitting there with everyone else not wanting to watch I imagine not the most social, but a group of people who actually like chatting about the sport- is class that as social

Definitely dependant on the people you’re with! The annoying thing is when you have to sit there in silence because the rest of the family are glued to the tv. It’s really antisocial dependant on the people; if you’re with people (like the op and her Dh) who don’t like it at all.

I am glad to find I am not the only one who feels this way about TV football. It makes me agitated and unsettled and I don't know why. It isn't just the sound of the crowd but more the commentary shouting that does it.

dantdmistedious · 18/11/2017 22:25

I can’t bear it. I quite like football but my husband turns into a judgemental homophobic prick when it’s on and would happily eat Sunday lunch staring at the tv. Lunches are now arranged around the key games and the kids and I disappear to do more fun stuff at the league games.

BackforGood · 18/11/2017 22:55

The issue here isn't about there being football on TV, but that your visitors have decided to sit and watch TV "all day" (though not sure how, as it isn't on all day), when visiting you, knowing you (as a couple) don't enjoy watching football.
I like football, but I wouldn't dream of going to visit someone and then watching any TV all day and evening.
However, if your dh has specially bought access to the football, then that must be the first point to start discussing it with.

PickAChew · 18/11/2017 22:57

Why the hell did they bother visiting if they'd rather watch football.

Next time, hide the sky box so only freeview is available.

I'm with @ScreamingValenta, mind. Genius :o
