To feed my evening guests chips and cake...

We’re getting married on a tight budget next summer...

Reception is a mega chilled informal affair... we’re having a late afternoon wedding and not having a formal sit down dinner but having big pans of Paella/street food type stuff, then Eaton mess for dessert...

The trouble is, we have quite a few extras coming in the evening (small ceremony venue & met at work so loads of colleagues!) and I’m really stuck for what to feed people later in the evening!

I was thinking of fish and chip shop chips wrapped in paper cones... wedding cake, maybe some bread and cheese? It’s a seaside wedding so thought this could be fun! BUT it’s then a lot of shitty food!

Any other ideas very welcome... whole wedding budget is 4K so trying to keep costs down but I obviously don’t want hungry guests!

We had chips and bacon sandwiches.

diddl · 16/11/2017 10:24

Why do people think it's fish & chips?

Rebeccaslicker · 16/11/2017 10:25

Low carbing is indeed a choice - unless you're T2 diabetic. If the OP has any diabetic guests she can make sure there is something they can have. Otherwise people can simply choose whether to eat it or not. In the absence of a medical condition, don't force your diet on others - don't want to eat it, don't!

brasty · 16/11/2017 10:26

Just let people know what the food will be. You do need a veggie option - veggie sausage?
I really would not care about people low carbing.

Rebeccaslicker · 16/11/2017 10:26

Diddl even if you can't be bothered to RTFT it's right there in the OP! Cones of fish and chips as it's a seaside wedding!

danTDM · 16/11/2017 10:27

It's just chips people. No fish, no van!

danTDM · 16/11/2017 10:29

Rebecca There is no fish if YOU can RTFT!

Rebeccaslicker · 16/11/2017 10:29

Arrrrgh!!! First post - "fish and chip shop chips". Post a few under that - OP is vegetarian and can cope "with fish" but not a rotating animal carcass. seriously. It's right there on the page!

BlackCoconut · 16/11/2017 10:29

I went to a carnival themed wedding once.
Outside the venue there was a fish and chip van, burger van and icecream van.
Lots of fun and ideal for all age ranges. There was no 'wedding breakfast' as such as people could just pop out and get a bite to eat in between drinking and socialising.

Not saying it's a cheaper option but saves paying £50 per head by serving food the guests may not enjoy!

Sounds a fab wedding by the way!

SilverSpot · 16/11/2017 10:30

I hope no guests are low carbing.

Yes, and also the OP should be catering for paleo, 5:2, South Beach Diet, Alkaline, Dukan and the Grapefruit diet.

Or, people following a fad diet could you know, exercise a modicum of self control and not fucking stuff their face and just have a little bit of normal food like normal people?

diddl · 16/11/2017 10:30

Oh Rebecca I have RTFT thank you!

"I was thinking of fish and chip shop chips wrapped in paper cones"

That to me reads as just chips.

If I've misread or missed a post, sorry. No need to be so fucking snarky.

FilthyforFirth · 16/11/2017 10:31

I had fish and chips as evening food at a wedding and loved it! Sounds ace, go for it!

Ljlsmum · 16/11/2017 10:32

I agree with AnnieAnoni- fish bites would be easier to handle whilst standing. Sounds great- especially by the seaside.

brasty · 16/11/2017 10:32

My elderly DM could not eat this because she can not eat food high in fat - it would make her very ill. But she would just bring a sandwich and crack on.

Fishcalledlola · 16/11/2017 10:34

We had fish and chip cones at our evening do 3 years ago. I saw my cousin last week and she still mentions how good they were!

danTDM · 16/11/2017 10:35

To me the OP clearly says 'fish and chip shop chips' and maybe some bread/cheese.

No fish.

I obviously haven't understood.

Rebeccaslicker · 16/11/2017 10:35

We often have the little newspaper cones at client functions - they go down a treat, as do little sausages with a mustard mayo dip (don't get me started on double dipping though Angry). I think the OP's evening do sounds fab.

Rebeccaslicker · 16/11/2017 10:37

as I said, even if you find the OP ambiguous, you only need to read down about 4 more posts where she clearly says she doesn't mind fish as she can have an alternative but can't cope with a hog roast!

LaurieMarlow · 16/11/2017 10:39

Just chips and cake? No, looks a bit stingy.

Fish n chips and cake? Perfect.

diddl · 16/11/2017 10:41

Op says she could cope with fish, but that still doesn't mean she'll have it, so the original question still remains.

danTDM · 16/11/2017 10:44

I agree diddl the whole point of the OP was it is just chips, nothing much more, and would that be OK?

Debates about hog roasts and fish and vans are NOT the OP.

My answer, fish and chips great.

A cone of chips, mean. Sorry.

greendale17 · 16/11/2017 10:44

Fish and chips is far nicer than a hog roast

greendale17 · 16/11/2017 10:45

Just chips and cake= stingy and cheap

MaxPepsi · 16/11/2017 10:48

I'd hate it. I also hate the on going but boring craze for cheap sausage butties and poorly cooked bacon butties.

They are dire. Even my DH who will eat anything avoids them like the plague.

However I also don't find your main menu appealing either and would be disappointed with that too. Sounds to messy for people potentially dressed in their best finery.

Only you know your guests and if it will work.

Originalfoogirl · 16/11/2017 10:50

I think it's a great idea. I'd do it.
