To be upset about going back on the Fodmap diet

I was diagnosed with a bowel disease a couple of years ago. I revisited the consultant recently to get advice on my medicine/symptoms and he has diagnosed me with IBS as well.

Worse still, he is sending me to a dietician to try the fodmap diet. I gratefully agreed as I need to get my bowel under control again.

But I have already tried this diet years ago and it was awful. Most of the stuff I should eat was out of our budget. So I ended up eating a tiny limited diet. I was so miserable.

Is there anything I can do to make it bearable or affordable this time around ?

When you go to the Asian supermarket ask for a spice called asofoetida ( also called hing) . It's a tree resin and used as a garlic substitute for religious groups such as Jains who don't eat onion and garlic. Together with your leeks, you now have onion/ garlic to use.
You can make fish tacos with the corn tortillas. Dip pieces of fish in egg and cornmeal and bake. Can you have a bit of avocado? Or make soya yoghurt into a sauce, salary stuff and raw spinach. Nice and dead easy.

Fish tacos sound ok. Will try them.

You said you don't eat spinach and I don't know if that's a taste thing or a texture thing but this works for my picky kid so thought I would share. Buy a bag of fresh spinach put it in the freezer, when its frozen take it out and bash the bag with a rolling pin until you get a green powder be quick because if it defrosts too much you end up with a soggy mess. You can sprinkle this into anything you are cooking he likes it best in scrambled eggs done in the microwave and calls them "hulk eggs". Doesn't really have much taste done like this but this was a gateway for him into allowing me to try other green things he deemed as "yuck" without trying them. Good luck with it all, some of these suggestions sound really helpful x

I will be retrying spinach to see if it grows on me. But freezing it, is inspired. Will try that for me and the kids !
