I'm starting to have breakfast from tomorrow.
I'm usually late up and running around but I'm going to get up half an hour before the kids and am hoping this will help with my energy and mood in the mornings.

But I could do with some inspiration from my mumsnet family!Grin

Good for you OP, I've been trying unsuccessfully to eat breakfast for ages. Going vegan changed my life, lost lots of weight, my overall appearance is better (skin, hair etc.) have more energy and learned a lot about nutrition and new ways to cook which I love. Also, saying no to things I don't want to do rather than agreeing to be 'nice' or because it's easier.

Gave up smoking at new year and wine as well, as the two are inextricably linked for me (though I do occasionally have a glass now and then), and getting to grips with that gave me the resolve to sort out other areas of my life. With the money that I wasn't spending on cigarettes I have a cleaner for two hours a week, which really has changed my life - I don't stress so much about all the stuff that needs doing in the house.

I started eating low-carb at the end of August and not only has my blood sugar stabilised (and my insulin doses have reduced) but I've lost two stones and feel massively better. I've joined a local dog-walking group as well, so my dogs and I are getting a fun social life as we have our walks.

Looking at it all written down, I'm quite proud of how much I've managed to achieve this year, after a bad few years when I thought I'd never get my life under control.

Fishface77 · 14/11/2017 22:55

Abbey you should be proud!
Wine and cigarettes are a massive thing to give up. And people who've sorted themselves financially! I'm jealous!

This is a lovely thread OP.
I stopped caring what others think, and it feels great.

Marie kondo book!! The decluttering has seeped into every area of my life. House obviously but also the car and the office. My mind is decluttered!

Got a dog in 2015. He is our baby and the dds and I are so devoted to him. He is a stupid twit but he gets us outside so much more. I lost a stone from the walking and I really notice every winter that coughs and colds are very rare for the 3 of us. We walk in a country park. Dog chases birds. Kids play in the trees and I take a book - we are all happy.

Retrained as a sw in 2006. Best decision ever!

I had to leave my nursing degree due to my epilepsy going crazy (stress is a big trigger for me) and fell in to deep depression and anorexia because of it because I'd dreamed of being a nurse since I was ten. This made getting a job hard. I started reading my housemate's law textbooks out of boredom. I found I was interested in it so enrolled on an Access to HE: Law course at the local college and did much better then I could ever expected in the first term so applied to university not really expecting much and because it was a course requirement. I got into every university I applied for and passed my college course with distinction. I'm back at university studying law now :)

My dogs. Life revolves around them and is all the better for it.

elaine26 · 14/11/2017 23:06

Started an open university degree, I'm now in my second year and have learned loads so far. I sit with my kids and we all do our homework together, I love it and they do too.

Juicyfruitloop · 14/11/2017 23:06

I really need to get on this feel good journey start making changes. Reading with great interest Blush

millifiori · 14/11/2017 23:17

Two years ago I was in a really bad rut. I spent six months doing something I've never done before/am scared of doing every single day. I went from broke and spending most of every day in bed due to CF and depression to being paid six figure salary on a project for expertise I didn't even have at the start of the year but acquired through doing the 'something new every day' project and working soemwhere later in the year that i thought was way, way out of my league.
I'm not exactly back at square one - much better off for a start, but CF and depression have slowed me down again with relapses, so I'm trying to get a similar project off the ground again as it had such unbelievable results last time round.

millifiori · 14/11/2017 23:20

Queen I've just started a declutteirng project. I'm doing one cupboard or even just one shelf/drawer each day and it feels fantastic. I love opening all my newly organised cupboards. It makes you feel so powerful and gives you so much energy. It's amazing how therapeutic it is.

MiraiDevant · 14/11/2017 23:22

Also reading with interest as I have found myself in a worse position than I have ever been in. It's a downward spiral.

Really good to hear these stories - well done all of you have made efforts to change. Simple changes that make a huge difference.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 14/11/2017 23:23

Does it count if it doesn’t last long 🤣

Littlechocola · 14/11/2017 23:24

Went to university and left my husband.

holdbackonthewine · 14/11/2017 23:31

Legallybrunet that’s inspirational!

ivenoideawhatimdoing · 14/11/2017 23:32

I forgave my Father for dying as selfish as that sounds.

I had so much upset and anger that I carried with me for years and about five years ago I finally began to let that go.

It changed my life and I very much believe saved my marriage.

Ladiva1971 · 14/11/2017 23:34

I went to Poland in January for a face lift, was a birthday prezzie to my self and it was the best thing I have done !!

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 14/11/2017 23:39

I'm another one who has to say 'got my dog'. Best thing ever (and she's the best dog I've ever had/met and am totally not bias...). Changes everything, you get out more and can't just not bother (gets you going!) and unconditional love/adoration from a woofter is amazing. It's just a shame they don't talk aside from when you make voices and talk on their behalf, conversing with yourself/dog

Ohb0llocks · 14/11/2017 23:41

Leaving my first sons ‘dad’

BriechonCheese · 14/11/2017 23:43

I quit a really high pressured job and set up in a completely different business all on my own (along with some part time jobs). It saved my life.

Also yoga. Even just doing Internet yoga videos gives me space and has helped a lot with my pain.

LegallyBrunet · 14/11/2017 23:45

Thank you holdbackonthewine

Coastalcommand · 14/11/2017 23:46

Got my dogs, my best friends.

Took the leap and moved in with BF. Gave him my heart, even though it was scary.

Got married (always said it was a piece of paper, now I understand)

After years of TTC had IVF and now have our baby, the light of my life.

Left my well paid career to work for myself. Scary but worth it.

All leaps i put off for years but now I'm so glad I took

GetOutOfMYGarden · 15/11/2017 00:01

Keeping stuff in my car. I've got a bag in the boot which is basically just porridge pots, those little pasta pots you just put water in (taste meh but they're under a quid each), water and a bag of fruit. I forget my lunch at least twice a week, forget to eat breakfast more than that, and it's a bloody lifesaver for both my waistline and my bank account.
