Love the new ad! Wondering if I should I buy my 18m DS the soft toy and book related to the advert as a xmas present? Total £29 - is that a bit expensive? I bought him buster the dog last year but i'm sure it wasn't that expensive. My DH is much more 'careful' with money, so will raise eyebrows at the price - AIBU to buy it anyway knowing its overpriced and we are trying to minimise the cost of Christmas?

Well that was disappointing, isn’t remotely Christmassy and not at all heart warming. First year that I haven’t liked the JL Christmas ad.

The80sweregreat · 10/11/2017 15:45

To think i sat through a John lewis ad on u tube, which is obviously fake!
beware the fake ones.

JeNeSuisPasVotreMiel · 10/11/2017 15:45

OP if you really need confirmation that you should buy more shit stuff, you're going to get a resounding NO on here.
It will all be landfill or clogging up the oceans in good time. Give him a cardboard box with a monster face drawn on it.

Soubriquet · 10/11/2017 15:52

Wtf was that advert?!

Made no sense at all

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 10/11/2017 16:02

I loved their man on the moon ad and the penguin ad.

Love love love Aldi and Kevin the Carrot.

peterpan742 · 10/11/2017 16:02

I've not seen it, but there was a number of them shown on GMB (I think) today and the one with the carrot people was a firm favourite of mine (fruit and veg with faces are my fav!) - I'm not sure if it was Aldi? Lidl?

I want one of the cuddly carrot people!

peterpan742 · 10/11/2017 16:03

PerryPerryThePlatypus The carrot has a name?!?!?!?!?! Kevin the carrot. I'll pop that on my xmas list Grin

HeatherWeather · 10/11/2017 16:10

It’s currently £20 on John Lewis site.

Love the Advert!

HeatherWeather · 10/11/2017 16:11

I’ve ordered one. Ds will love it.

Click and collect £2

MirandaWest · 10/11/2017 16:16

OP as the advert came out just before 8am and you were posting at just after 10am did you show your 18m old the ad several times to know that he loves it?

Blodplod · 10/11/2017 16:18

I’ve just watched it whilst at work fully expecting to be embarrassed at being a sobbing ridiculous mess at per previous years (well, not last year but previous ones). And no, it didn’t move me one iota.. which is a shame because I usually enjoy my annual sob at a JL advert. Personally I wouldn’t waste £29 quid on merchandise for an 18mth old who would barely be able to register any interest in the advert

Redglitter · 10/11/2017 16:19

Over rated as usual. Not in the least Christmassy and an unmemorable song

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 10/11/2017 16:37

peterpan yes he was in last year's Aldi ad too.

why12345 · 10/11/2017 17:06

Nothin remotely Christmasy?? Did you not the Christmas tree and boy opening a present from Moz?

Sidge · 10/11/2017 17:36

But there's no ice or snow, no robins, no reindeer or decorations, no jingly bells, nothing apart from a tree and presents that indicates it's Christmas time!

(Yeah I know in the UK Christmas is usually denoted by rain, grey cloud, crammed shopping centres and people fighting over the last turkey in Asda but on the TV I want stereotypes!)

MarshaBrady0 · 10/11/2017 17:39

Did nothing for me
Music felt typical and uninspiring

The whole thing felt like a re-hash of similar JL sentiment but just not moving

HeatherWeather · 10/11/2017 20:53

I LOVE the song.

How can you not love Golden Slumber by The Beatles, performed by Elbow!

Where’s The Grinch when you need him Wink

TheAntiBoop · 10/11/2017 21:14

It's like they looked back over the past ads and picked out the bits hey thibk worked and then jammed them together

The song is great but not the version - bland bland bland

Mollie85 · 10/11/2017 21:14

The man on the moon one and the bear one made me cry (emotional wreck)

I loved the penguin one and last years with the dog jumping on the trampoline. Such joy.

This one - I mean I get the premise - monster “sacrifices” himself for little boy as monster is detrimental to little boy’s sleeping patterns, etc; but it left me a little nonplussed.

I do however really like the M&S Alice in Wonderland themed one. (Don’t have a telly so had a YouTube marathon earlier Grin )
