To take 3mo dd to see Santa?

Dh thinks I'm being ridiculous, ditto with buying presents. I know she won't remember any of it but it will still be her first Christmas.
Did you still do things for your children at Christmas when they were really young?

My daughter was 5 weeks last Christmas and we took her. We went with my multiple nieces and nephews too so not just by herself. It was nice to have a photo. We met about 3 all season thinking about it now.

We got her a book, some babygrows and a pram toy for Christmas.

calamityjam · 09/11/2017 19:18

I really wouldn't bother tbh. The queues are ridiculous and the presents are not usually aimed at tiny ones.

WhatwouldAryado · 09/11/2017 19:20

Yes. What would you expect? Show her the pretty lights she would probably get more from that. Maybe take pictures of her beside the tree. Her first tree. Or start a yearly ornament tradition and photograph her with it every year. When she is older you can show her the pictures.

Stompythedinosaur · 09/11/2017 19:20

I got presents for mine but I don't think they'd get anything out of a trip to see Santa at that age.

Whatififall · 09/11/2017 19:21

She wouldn't get anything out of it at that age but as a first Christmas photo I would take her.

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 09/11/2017 19:21

pointless but harmless so up to you

nancy75 · 09/11/2017 19:22

If you want to go then go. You’re not hurting anyone so why does it matter. Of course she won’t know what’s going on but when she’s older you’ll have a picture of her first Santa visit to show her.

Darlingsof · 09/11/2017 19:22

YABU. You'll have years of having to do this stuff so skip it while you can! Unless you're going with older kids in which case she can squeeze in the photo. Get her a santa suit or a reindeer suit and take a pic, far more hilarious...

Babababababybel23 · 09/11/2017 19:23

I think that's what I want it for,
just the photos

traviata · 09/11/2017 19:24

surely she will be terrified?

next year she will probably love it, and for the following three years. Be patient.

This year it will be all about the sparkles, lights on the trees, and crackly wrapping paper.

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 09/11/2017 19:26

I took my DS last year, he was 5 weeks and apparently father christmas’ youngest visitor. It was 100% for me, I wanted a picture, but I love that picture!! We also did presents but only 3 or 4 and we’re all things we would have got anyway. My favourite is a personalised copy of the night before Christmas as I’m planning to read it to him every year! But my husband thinks I’m ridiculous too!

nancy75 · 09/11/2017 19:27

Why would she be terrified? She’s just as likely to be asleep!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 09/11/2017 19:27

It’s nice to get the pictures but that’s it really. A couple of noisy toys (Tomy hide and squeak eggs are good) a box and a stick and you’re golden.

NataliaOsipova · 09/11/2017 19:27

You’re not unreasonable to take her, but you are unreasonable if you think it’s for her rather than for you! But if you fancy getting a photo (and she’s isn’t terrified!), then go for it....!

paxillin · 09/11/2017 19:28

I didn't at that age, no. Might as well take your pot plant. But if it is for you and the pictures, go right ahead. She's too young to be particularly terrified. She might scream the house down next year at 15 months though.

SomethingNewToday · 09/11/2017 19:28

My older dc are earlier in the year so were 11 months and 8 months at Xmas. Dc3 will be 7 months this year.

I took both older dc and will take dc3 too...I would have at just a few weeks too, I'd want that photo op.

gluteustothemaximus · 09/11/2017 19:29

If you want to do it, then do it.

You'll remember it.

And anything that your DD doesn't remember, still shapes her anyway.

We always did things no matter how little, no matter what others said.

Leeds2 · 09/11/2017 19:31

I wouldn't (and didn't ) do it myself, but I don't think there is any harm in it. Even if it is just for you. So what!
I would certainly buy her some presents. Not many, and not spend a fortune. But certainly something.
I think the idea of a Baby's First Christmas for the tree is lovely.

ButtMuncher · 09/11/2017 19:31

I took my then 2 month DS - he was with his (then 7 y/o) big brother and both had Christmas outfits on. My DS looked hilarious and the Santa was really sweet and held him gently. It's a photo I can treasure and will do for years to come. We did only go to a cheap Shopping centre Santa though, I would have probably drawn the line at an expensive one Grin

scrivette · 09/11/2017 19:32

Up to you but I wouldn’t bother.

I will have a very newborn baby at Christmas and it’s only getting presents from Father Christmas and that’s only because DS1&2 will wonder why it hasn’t got any. (Only a book and a babygrow though).

I take a photo of each child by the tree each year, it’s nice to see how much they have grown.

EastMidsMummy · 09/11/2017 19:45

WTF? What a waste of fucking money.

nancy75 · 09/11/2017 19:48

*EastMidsMummy

WTF? What a waste of fucking money.*

That’s a rather OTT response!

ownedbySWD · 09/11/2017 19:48

I wouldn't, but I don't think badly of anyone who does! DS will nearly be 1 on Christmas day and he'll have a few presents and a "first Christmas" top. He'll enjoy the pictures one day.

LouHotel · 09/11/2017 19:58

My girl was 6 months last christmas and we didnt but grandparents when OTT with parents, some which she is still to young too play with :/

We will this year.

Babababababybel23 · 09/11/2017 19:59

I don't intend to go to an expensive grotto, no trips to Lapland or anything
Just a cheap one so I can get a picture, since dh can't be convinced to dress up like Santa Grin
