Well, just my fringe mostly.... Like, how hard can it be?? 😂 Any tips before I start hacking away?

Wet hair stretches obviously so cut very little at a time as it will bounce up when dry

TheKnackeredChef · 09/11/2017 15:16

Yes. Voice of bitter experience here. Don't.

Clandestino · 09/11/2017 15:16

Watch few Youtube tutorials. Remember if the hair is wet, the dry hair will be much shorter. Take really sharp and smallish scissors.

timeforabrewnow · 09/11/2017 15:18

Go for it. I've cut my own twice now (all the way round the back too) and it looks good.

Watched a load of you tube videos first and bought some hairdressing scissors off Ebay. Sectioned it all out to do it properly, and put layers etc in too.

Coloured it myself too, reckon I've saved at least £100

PanPanPanPing · 09/11/2017 15:18

Does anyone remember the MN haircut so popular a few years ago?!

It worked well if you followed the instructions and did it properly. But I do recall a few disasters which were posted!

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 09/11/2017 15:20

I've always cut my own fringe and my OH cuts the rest of it for me.

I only go to the hairdressers for highlights.

It gets shorter once it dries so I tend to dry cut it. I put the rest of my hair behind my ears so I can't accidentally snip into the non fringe bits.

Justbookedasummmerholiday · 09/11/2017 15:20

My neice cut her own fringe as a dc. The entire left side only - up to the scalp!! Grin

Nikephorus · 09/11/2017 16:31

Only take a tiny bit off the fridge at a time. Like, really tiny. I cut my own hair & a few times I've decimated the front by accident, thinking I was only taking a bit off. Blush

milkchocolatx5 · 09/11/2017 16:33

YouTube it. full of videos. I never go to the hairdresser and DIY cut instead

FinallyDecidedOnUserName · 09/11/2017 16:35

Ooooooo @PanPanPanPing is there a link?

speakout · 09/11/2017 16:39

I often cut my hair, have done so for years.

It's my hair.

CMOTDibbler · 09/11/2017 16:41

Yep, I do mine

formerbabe · 09/11/2017 16:51

Use proper hair dressing scissors if you do.

MuseumOfCurry · 09/11/2017 16:52

I'd cut my own fringe bangs if I had them.

Proceed with caution!

Afreshstartplease · 09/11/2017 16:53

I used to do my fringe all the time when i had one! Its easy tbh just take little bits off at a time.

Amanda27365 · 09/11/2017 16:55

Don't do ittttttt!!!!!!! Angry

CuppaSarah · 09/11/2017 16:55

I always cut my hair, it's easy...but I would never cut a fringe. I'm not brave enough.

MammaTJ · 09/11/2017 17:00

I always do my own. I do the MN haircut, but I have a fringe cut in too. I also colour it myself. I have saved a fortune!

dangermouseisace · 09/11/2017 17:01

I thought that most hairdressers will trim your fringe for free, if you get your hair cut there...so fringe trims in between cuts IYSWIM. My hairdresser does it, and always says he'd rather people came in than tried to do it themselves at home.

Swizzlesticks23 · 09/11/2017 17:05

DO NOT FROWN whilst doing it

I've done this before and ended up with a lord farqar fringe.

Chrys2017 · 09/11/2017 17:06

Your hairstylist will probably do a free fringe trim for you in between cuts—most do.

PanPanPanPing · 09/11/2017 17:08

It took me a while to find it, Finally, but here we go www.mumsnet.com/style-and-beauty/home-beauty-treatments. But you do need your hair to be reasonably long.

gingerbreadmam · 09/11/2017 17:11

Cut it whilst dry and use proper hairdressing scissors.

Once you have cut it to the length you want hold it between your fingers then cut up into it vertically to soften it.

But yeah your hairdresser will likely do free fringe trims.

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 09/11/2017 17:12

I've done the "MN haircut" (it's actually just a well known DIY haircut) a few times and it's fine. I do have very long hair though. And no fringe.

inkandstone · 09/11/2017 17:14

I'm always chopping bits of mine here and there. I used to do my fringe, but am growing it out now, and also the ponytail cut to put some layers in. Today, I cut some off the length, so it's a kind of bob.

Always do it dry and use proper hairdressing scissors and watch a few YouTube videos until you find a method you feel confident with.
