to think that most women look better with a little make-up?

Not a lot, just a little tinted moisturiser, mascara and a lip colour. I know I do, but I don't do it often - just evenings out and certainly not for the school run/work or daily life.

So why do people trowel it on? Once you can see the make-up it's like wearing a mask. I know that people get used to seeing themselves with a fake face, but surely easing off a bit would be beneficial?

When did it become the norm for young teenagers to wear a full face of heavy make-up?

It seems such a peculiar thing to do.

Also, some of my male friends wear a little makeup! You couldn't really tell as most just wear tinted moisturiser. But I also have a bit of a thing for guys wearing eyeliner! It really suits some of them/their personalities.

Fwiw I think some women just suit makeup and some don't! Obviously looks better if they know how to apply it properly, loads of tutorials available on YouTube.

I agree, OP.
I saw a photo of Gemma Collins with no (or very little) make up.
She looked really pretty.
But with all that Pancake/thick trowellled on makeup, she looks really ordinary.
I've seen a few 'stars' like that.
Really pretty without, ten a penny with.

I think a little bit of makeup looks nice.
Mascara gets rid of that bare eyed look.

I have acne and rosacea and can't wear make up as it blocks my pores (even the 'non comedogenic' ones), makes me acne/rosacea worse and the fact that I feel clogged up and claggy (that sticky, horrible feeling).

I haven't worn make up since my last concert in the SSE arena (the old Odyssey) in Belfast. That was over 4 years ago.

My husband loves me just the way I am, and so do my DC, so I don't care what others think. What you see is what you get, and if you don't like it, tough.

I looked better without makeup. Until I got older. Now I half use it as a polyfiller for my wrinkles Grin

It stands to reason that if you think women look better with make-up on then so should men. Yet you rarely hear people say that.

We feel that way because society has conditioned us to.

These threads always get horrible. No need to run other women down, whether they wear make-up or not.

c3pu · 10/11/2017 19:10

I hate make up, I'd much rather date a woman who doesn't wear it.

dameglittersparkles · 10/11/2017 19:26

😂😂😂

MistressDeeCee · 10/11/2017 21:28

These posts are always the same

Scorn women who wear make up
Virtue-signal and humble brag re not wearing so much make-up
Jealously aiming to present self as better than younger women
Pretending one was never young with a face full of makeup back in the day

Great c3pu as long as thats who you truly date, and don't aim to opine to women who are zero to do with you re wearing make up

Mind you from what I can see plenty of women are up for that themselves anyway...

I like minimal makeup . But I think it doesn’t really matter whether you’re barefaced, have a full face of makeup on or something in between - it’s all about being happy in your own skin and comfortable with your own style . This is what makes for beauty , IMO . I have some friends who wear tons of makeup and look happy and are full of joy and life . And others who are bare faced and beautiful in other ways . Everyone should embrace their own comfort zone ! For me , I love eyeliner and shaping my brows . If I have time I’ll use my Dior B.B. cream but I always feel more comfortable with less on at the moment !

These threads are always about judging other women. All these 'oh she wore less makeup and she looked better for it' are hypocritical as fuck. How about stop fixating on looks, especially other people's and let them do what they want with their faces.

dollybird · 10/11/2017 23:25

I wear make up to work and for going out in the evening, and none the rest of the time. I feel more polished for work, and, as I hardly ever go out, it's nice to dress up and do my face. Have recently started using an eyebrow pencil as I over plucked when I was younger, but still only when I'm wearing makeup.

DD is 14 and has never worn makeup and is showing no signs of any interest in doing so. I think she looks lovely as she is. She's got great skin and fab, thick but natural looking eyebrows.

I know what you’re getting at but don’t agree - a lot of people look totally fabulous with a lot of makeup on. People dress and make themselves up how they feel comfortable. And people we see on tv, magazines, billboards and SM wear huge amounts of makeup- yet normal women have to get by on lip balm and tinted moisturiser because some people think they wear to much? Erm no.
A lot of the time I wear no make up and am happy and comfortable going out and about barefaced. Sometimes I wear minimal makeup like you describe. Sometimes I “pile” on lots and lots of products. I probably feel happiest and most comfortable with no makeup or a lot or makeup. In the tinted moisturiser and mascara zone I feel least comfortable. I don’t feel like my barefaced self, yet I don’t feel like I actually look much better - just more “presentable”.
I love makeup - it’s a fun, creative outlet and it all washes off at the end of the day. I have quite a big scar on my face and wearing makeup gave me a lot of confidence years ago before the scar settled down.
I’m not saying I never judge people’s makeup but I do try not to. If someone has a lot on it’s probably because they like it and if makes them feel more comfortable. If someone’s makeup looks bad or cakey then it’s probably because they aren’t very good at applying it or have bad lighting or maybe they are just having a shit day.

TheWernethWife · 11/11/2017 21:17

I don't feel dressed without my earrings and lippy on. Have loads of lipsticks, have to step away from beauty counters.

lanbro · 11/11/2017 21:22

Day to day I wear tinted moisturiser and mascara but on a night out I contour! Just discovered it, don't trowel it on but the transformation is amazing and I feel really good about myself!
